It is quite amusing seeing opposition fans suddenly portray Boehly as someone clever enough to find multiple FFP dodging ways after branding him as an incompetent simpleton for the best part of a year.

Cake and eat it sprigs to mind!
Chelsea fans have been looking at a kid throwing paint at a wall for the past year, but suddenly think they've been looking at a Jackson Pollock all along.

Because the spending just doesn't stop it means the guy must be a genius right? With the money they've spent and no European engagements they should be winning the league, but the guy will be hailed as the second coming if Chelsea even manage 3rd in the league this season, despite that being just about par for them over the past decade.

A bidding war for Kepa, in 2023? I’ve seen it all now.

To be fair, it’s a terrible bidding war because both teams are offering nothing more than a loan with an option to buy. I’d reject that without considering it.

So they've just lost out on Caicedo after bidding 100m for him.

Hilariously, if they'd have bid this amount maybe a month ago then Caicedo would've been theirs right now. Boehly masterclass.

Pie in the face to Chelsea owners and their fans. Brighton has made them look like absolute mugs .

  1. spent 3 months going for Caceido only for him to join Liverpool.
  2. Spent £60m on Cucurella who has been bang average
  3. Spent £25m on their third choice keeper
  4. Spent £21m on Potter who didn't have a clue what he was doing
I have not seen anything like this in football before . I do not even know why Chelsea still does business with Brighton.

Anyway, more importantly Chelsea board are letting down their manager. Pochettino knew he needed a destroyer because their midfield is weak and easy to bypass. Pochettino wanted urgarte or Caceido as his first few option and he got none of them. Instead, he got Tyler Adams .

Pochettino must think he is back at spurs. But good things for chelsea fan is that you got a brilliant manager like Pochettino. He is used to having a board not backing him. He will transform a lot of these average players and still make them competitive. Even though chelsea will struggle to get top four now, at least Pochettino will begin the healing process and make chelsea a top club again.

Nothing wrong if someone outbid you when you bid 100 mn. Boehly not even in negotiation team since last winter window. Boehly masterclass ye  .Good luck for caicedo though for his new adventure.

They're hilariously clueless. Chelsea fans can convince themselves that Chelsea have a plan right now but it looks like a kid has given control off the club and he's playing it like FM.

I'm guessing they spend the 50m on lavia now but short term they need a starter next to Enzo. Lavia has huge potential but he's not ready to start regularly in that setup, nor has he got the defensive awareness yet. Best move (being unbiased honestly) for Lavia would be United. Chelsea already have a bunch of young midfielders and it doesn't make sense to just stockpile them, you gotta focus on developing them into their roles.

Another pretty embarrassing episode in the market for Chelsea under this regime. Lavia's price has gone up because of it I am sure.

Whilst I’ve said a few times that I think anything more than £75-80m for Caicedo is overpriced, and I’m glad that we didn’t pay £100m+ for him, to chase a player for 3 months and come away empty-handed is absolutely shocking.

If they were prepared to slap £100m down all along, as last night’s events suggest, they could’ve done that 2 months ago and Poch would’ve had the player and had time to integrate him into the squad.

Hugely unimpressed with the sporting directors, Lawrence and Winstanley. They walked away from the Ugarte deal which would’ve cost around half of what they were prepared to pay for Caicedo all along. Tyler Adams is no adequate replacement.

Heads should roll over this, their pursuit of Caicedo at the expense of any other first-team ready midfielder has been shambolic.

In general, I'd say you were right, but the problem is the optics of it look bad. Spent 3/4 of a billion the last 12 months. Continue to spend multiple 10's of millions on project players, many of whom you will just send out on loan, yet you fail to get probably the key component you've spent all summer chasing, only to lose him to a rival who just seemed to turn up in the last week.

I mean, Chelsea are bigger than 1 player, and they'll move on and improve regardless. But just like if we lost out on Rice to Man City, it's got to be regarded as a kick in the stones.

That stinks so bad. Now that this is over, we need to block Brighton’s number. I never want to hear us being interested in anything Brighton have ever again.

I had forgotten about the Ugarte interest, clearly been a long window already. But yes, hard to argue with any of that. Shambolic is the word.

What's Chelsea backup then, Lavia? Pretty sure they bid for him last August?

Best move for Lavia would actually be someone like Brighton but doubt they'll re-invest the incoming 100m on 50/60m signings.

Chelsea are really struggling if Enzo Fernandez gets injured/sent off. Can see them getting in someone cheap and relatively underwhelming like Tyler Adams just to give them some defensive nous in the set up as Conor Gallagher isn't going to provide it.

They have that Brazilian guy right now who is young with potential, which is why I don't see the sense in lavia. Your whole team can't be potential... Mudryk, Chukwuemeka, Jackson, madueke, Colwill and so on. All just young players. Some make it, some don't, but you need that experience guiding them which I feel like they're making a mistake with now.

Yes. But Lavia makes no sense as he's more similar to Enzo, and we've needed a partner for Enzo. So essentially we could end up with Enzo, Lavia, and Santos who all have a similar skillset and only Adams who is currently injured to partner them.

We've messed around with Ugarte and Caicedo when we desperately needed either one of them.

Caicedo would have been that too though, although a bit more experience in this league. You're right though. It's why I find it so difficult to predict the season for us.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino on Saudi Arabia's growing involvement in football: "I think it's good for football, for players and for managers. It looks like a drama, but we need to enjoy. When money is there and involved, it looks like a drama, but you need to have a good balance. We need to protect the players to feel free and show their talents."

Not the best answer he could have given.

This aged well.

How could it possibly be embarrassing to haggle so as to not overpay for a player when you have no competition (at the time). All that 'embarrassment' is why a player will reject a move to Liverpool and deny a call from Klopp to join a team with no CL.

Well things has changed overnight...even though the point stands that Brighton has made chelsea look bad in their transfer windows, getting Caceido will show a statement of intent from chelsea owners and to their fans.

Even though, I don't believe Caceido is worth anywhere close to his current evaluation, paying that much shows that their board may have some understanding towards Caceido importance to Pochettino team.

I stand corrected, chelsea are definitely not like spurs if they seal this Caceido deal. The game against Liverpool will be banger. With whoever getting Caceido drawing the first blood.

If chelsea get Caceido, lavia, and kudus, they have won this transfer window. Probably the biggest heist in football by stealing both Caceido and lavia under Liverpool nose and then getting kudus from Brighton as well will be like a scene from succession

How much have Chelsea spent in these three windows? Must be like a biilion pound even without considering the Caicedo deal.

Very fair shout. I jumped the gun on that one alright. At least it's been a happy ending for all and he isn't going to Liverpool.

Does that mean you are now in the market for a top class keeper this summer? Or will you be going into the season with what you have?
No idea mate. I guess Sanchez will be the number one now but I don’t think Bettinelli is enough GK cover. He’s a third string hype man who’s good in the dressing room, he can’t be the main back up goalie, and he’s currently injured anyway.

I really hope he refuses to leave and they have to get Maurizio Sarri to drag him off
