No shit. I'm looking at it from the clubs perspective and why the decision was made not to proceed with the pay off.It is not a matter of moral principles or being cheeky. Harry is doing what is best for him.
If the entire idea is to move him on next year, then won't we be better off letting him leave this season with a severance package, thus eliminating his weekly wages from our books, getting an immediate replacement, and grooming the new incoming player? That saves money; that improves our future. Why wait till next year?I'm not sure it's very productive to linger too much on it now. Maybe another offer comes this summer (doubt it but heh who knows). He'll be easier to move next year -at a reduced fee-.
I'd rather he was out and replaced this year but what can you do. From the little we really know about all this, I'm not sure I understand the stance of the club.
I highly doubt PSG will really do that and doesn't try their best to find a resolution.Send him to the reserves and let him rot there. If PSG can do that with Mbappe, Neymar, Verratti etc. weh should be able to do that too.
Mbappé is back on the squad, Neymar was transferred within 10 days of being told he was no longer part of the plan, and Verratti was allegedly told the same but that he'll train with the first team and be played as necessary if he can't find a buyer.Send him to the reserves and let him rot there. If PSG can do that with Mbappe, Neymar, Verratti etc. we should be able to do that with the feckin fridge too.
That’s as good as finished if Maguire is staying. This better not screw up a potential Pavard deal.
You have better owners than we do. We probably can't afford to pay him off AND get a replacement. Personally, I would just go with Evans as 4th/5th choice and buy a new cb next summer.I really don't understand what the fuss is about for the payout. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi and Sead Kolasinac have all been paid to leave the Emirates in the past three years. Pepe will be next.
I am not familiar with the accounting side of both Arsenal and Man Utd. I only saw 50m or 43m (30m transfer fee + 13m wage saving) vs 7m. I am not familiar with the FFP calculation either. According to Redcafe Maguire will rot to reserve and never play so cost for replacement is irrelevant. You have better owners than we do. We probably can't afford to pay him off AND get a replacement. I entirely agree but we're not privy to all the financial ins and outs, maybe when all factored it's too much of a bad deal to transfer him for that bid.If the entire idea is to move him on next year, then won't we be better off letting him leave this season with a severance package, thus eliminating his weekly wages from our books, getting an immediate replacement, and grooming the new incoming player? He is really good. Chelsea should buy him for their midfield. Surely they need a few more to survive. He gets no credit for wanting to stay and fight for his place?
Your calculus doesn't make sense. You think he will earn more as a 34 year old than as a 32 year old? That is highly doubtful. Even then, he will have earned as much by 32 if he remains on his current contract as he would do on West Ham's offer by 34 years old, so under no circumstance should he walk away from his contract unless United make up the difference. That is objectively the correct financial decision.Nah with 20k after 2 years the math doesn’t add up.
WHU most likely will have offered him 4 years contract. If he played well and got a one year extension then he’s ahead. 4 years contract equals his United pay. He will be 34 at the time and considering nutrition and fitness levels, preserving his value he could get 1-2 years at least at lower level probably at around 50-60k.
if he’s marginalised at United, he’d be 32, zero form, zero credentials anymore, most likely forgotten and getting pay as you play, don’t see any PL team touching him apart from recently promoted and Luton for example are paying their star players 10k per week?
if he was banking on him and keeping shape and prolonging his career then getting playing time should be his goal. If he’s unsure of his qualities but still want to get the bag - then yeah getting the promised bag sitting in a corner seems the safe option.
I'm also not sure about the accounting side of things. To me, it seems that Josh Kronke has backed Arteta in getting rid of his unwanted players at all costs. This is not something the Glazers will do.I am not familiar with the accounting side of both Arsenal and Man Utd. I only saw 50m or 43m (30m transfer fee + 13m wage saving) vs 7m. He couldn't agree personal terms with West Ham. So the payoff doesn't even come into the picture. Unless we are talking about terminating his contract and paying him salary for next 2 years. No shit. I'm looking at it from the clubs perspective and why the decision was made not to proceed with the pay off.
At 34 with regular playing time compared to 32 with no playing time for 2 years? Yes I think the former option would be better for the buying club. Besides if he’s good at WH he might get an extension to very similar terms to the 100k he’d be on.Your calculus doesn't make sense. You think he will earn more as a 34 year old than as a 32 year old? I would say that would be the safer bet. Why give up something he has on his hand for the money he may earn in the future? It makes no sense unless he is a young player looking for game time to develop. At 34 with regular playing time compared to 32 with no playing time for 2 years? If he warmed the bench for 2 years who will objectively take 32 years old Maguire on their roster?
The difference is that Maguire has to put up the work during those three - four years to keep the level he is at. If he has doubts - yes just banking it up and retire at 32 is the safer bet.
Which is followed by a burst in laughter from all involved in the discussionWill provide competition for Jonny Evans while also being useful as a threat to the likes of Varane and Onana if they drop below the required level.
"Play like that again and I'm getting the Harry out"
He's not going to have no playing time though, is he? He played 800 premier league minutes last year and featured in 16 games, starting 8. He featured in 31 games for us across all comps and started in 15 or 16. If he is available, then ETH will use him. If not, he can reassess next year and negotiate an exit.At 34 with regular playing time compared to 32 with no playing time for 2 years? Yes unfortuntely. Is Maguire costing us Pavard?
Or just posturing as he’s negotiating a buyout package from United.Maguire is now talking about fighting his way into the team.
His delusion is damaging United.
Why is he greedy?Hope he's included in the match day squad so the fans can tell him what we think of this greedy feck. Should be brought on in the final few minutes so he gets the message.
Twat of a man.
