Desperate times call for desperate measures. We desperately need two central midfielders at decebt prices before this window is up or it will be a long season. I'd shop Mctom and Maguire at cut prices. £50m for both combined or £25m each for anyone who wants them.

Or they might say. We just singed you Mount, why do you need a new starting CM?
To which I'd reply...Thanks for Mount, but Mason was a replacement for Eriksen (who join the club on a free transfer last summer) Fred has left, Donny is not a footballer and McTom isn't quite good enough to win the league.

I actually feel bad for him. He’s literally waited all summer for us to come in for him but unfortunately for him we don’t have the funds unless some of our players decide they want to leave. We should see if Fiorentina will do a loan for the season with option to buy next year…

To which the reply would be, FFP. So once again where are you going to play Amrabat if Mount is starting and so is Casemiro and Bruno.

Diamond… we’ve seen Real Madrid and Barca both change to a Diamond this season. Especially Madrid who have unreal midfielders they want to fit them all in.

He could be another Martinez…. Or he could be another Antony but one way or another we need him in there.
It's probably a dereliction of duty from this point onwards to allow Ten Hag to sign anymore players who he once managed. I'd hand it over to the scouts and ask them to throw some names out instead.

If he’s not the player you wanted in May he’s not the guy for us. I don’t know when our season depended on Amrabat. I’m not having it.

If we sign Amrabat and play a diamond then fine. I don’t see it

Do we even have scouts? We never use them.. we just let the managers pick who they’ve worked with. Scouts should be able to go to France or Spain and pick out some gems. Instead we’re going after know players.

The reply would be...Football is a team game and you need more than 11 players, FFP is just an excuse, take a note from City or Chelsea and get creative!

But roleplaying aside, the Glazers don't give a shit about winning the league so it's a phone call that would end in disappointment for the manager.

From what I understand they do that, but the manager gets final say because we want to 'back him' so we can ultimately blame him when it goes wrong.

I think we’ve been linked with him for quite a while. Just ETH chose to go for a Eriksen replacement before a Casemiro replacement…

Fact is Mount was a stupid signing to prioritise over Amrabat.
Reply would be, you’ve spent 450m since you became manager, do your job and win games.

It’s annoying because we literally had a very good chance of signing Camavinga before he moved to Madrid, he wanted to come here but we messed it up.

Im not saying we wasn’t. I’m asking was he what you felt we needed at the end of the season.

It’s the same with Harry Kane and Oshimen. We knew what strikers we felt would improve us we got Hoijlund.

All I’m saying is people have Amrabat as some crucial piece. He wasn’t on any of our lists for improving us. So I don’t want him.

We’ve spent ridiculous amounts on the wrong players. It’s now down to the manager to get the best out of this team and find a good balance between attack and defence.

Do you still not think he’ll improve us after watching both of our last games? He won’t be the crucial piece but he’ll be an option and someone good enough to shore up the midfield.

We're desperate for a plan b of a stronger midfield which could become plan a if this guy grasps his opportunity. we're actually weaker than last season after a decade of shocking midfield setups

We'll face many more strong midfields, I fear what ETH has in mind is too light for most games.

Amrabat wouldn’t replace Casemiro, he would play with him

Maybe we are exaggerating Amrabat's potential impact somewhat, but I hope he arrives...just don't hold your breath.
We need a player who can work in the first build up phase in midfield. The only one in the squad who can do that currently is Mainoo. Eriksen can to an extent but he has his issues (lacks legs and intensity)

I don’t even think Amrabat is the answer, but we should have spent the Mount money in that type of midfielder

If we actually get him then I think he'll very quickly become a starter just based on us not having that profile of player. A midfielder who is tidy on the ball, press resistant and actually looks for it deep, rather than hides for it.

That's what I don't get... If we're really in for him and have told him to be patient - loan with obligation is just common sense, if we are so hamstrung with FFP.

Instead of continuing to piss about.

I think we approached him but he only had eyes for Madrid, and you can't blame him, they won a bunch of CL's in recent years and we've been scrapping for 6th place.

We need better mate. Real Madrid have Camavinga, Tchouameni just to name two. I’m not raising my chest because we will have Casemiro and Amrabat. I mean would he have performed better than Boussuma today? I don’t have any evidence he would.

For now he would yes. He’d be the replacement if he gets suspended or injured.
So he’d be an Eriksen replacement and Casemiro backup…. Soo what is Mount

Maybe that doesn’t work for Fiorentina. He has one year left of his contract and Fiorentina can extend it by another year. I believe they want to either sell him now or negotiate a long term extension…

Yeah I understand your point...pressure is building on poor Mainoo and Hojlund.

I would suggest playing a more pragmatic approach and sitting back for a few games, especially when there is no fit CF in the squad. Maybe a formation change.

But that's a chat for a different thread.

Depends… if we really want to shore our midfield up and stop teams from walking through us then I’d be tempted to go 4-3-1-2/ 4-4-2 narrow diamond. I mean it’s not like any of our wide players are useful. Casa, Mount, Amrabat and Bruno. That way we have physicality, pressers, creativity and passers.

Probably not to be fair. Bissouma was insane today. It’s a question we’ll never know the answer to though. I think he’d have helped us be more solid though.

Exactly what's happening. This is a 26 year old, who's never come close to signing for another top club or done anything of not in his career. Yet is meant to be the solution to all of our problems.

It's not about him solving all of our problems or bring an answer but a quality mid who can play with Casemiro or instead and make our midfield a bit more harder to get pass by. What's all this drama about him solving everything or being an answer to our problems stuff about.

Rashford and Hojlund(when he's back) is your front 2 in this system I'm presuming?

Could potentially work. Might help us keep the ball more too. Highly doubt ETH uses this though.
