Short-term LB signing?

The article itself specifies that the signing would be on a short term basis.

Imagining that is the plan, are there any obvious candidates? Daley Blind joined Girona a month ago, else he'd be the obvious candidate I guess.

Dalot will play a lot at LB is my guess

Personally i'd be against a short term signing. I'd play Dalot there or Martinez and then keep Fernandez for the first half of the season.

Dalot will play this position. I'd rather we moved for a new RB. I am not convinced about Wan Bissaka in the system we want to play.

It depends how short-term we're looking. If it's the LB equivalent of Jonny Evans we should just stick to what we have. It's far from perfect but Dalot can deputise there and if Alvaro Fernandez is any good we should try to give him some opportunities in the team too.

Not short term but I like the lad at Fulham, Robinson. Looks very good on the ball when Ive watched them but dont have a judgement on how quick he is.

Just play Dalot or Martinez there. We have so many other positions that need filling.

Exactly, what's the point of our fabled youth academy if we can't even rely on the talent to be 3rd/4th choice back up.

Don't get this. The manager always makes a big deal of emphasizing how it's a squad game and how strong our squad is. Yet the moment we suffer a long term injury we dip into the emergency loan market and get a sub par player. Happened with Eriksen/Sabitzer and Wehgorst and now looks to be happening again.

Why not trust Dalot/Fernandez/Martinez to cover the position for a couple of months ( if Shaw is indeed out for that long)?

We have Dalot as an option, and Lisandro.

Then at some point you have to trust the youth players. Who knows what might happen, imagine we didn't give Rashford a chance when we did.

In the Weghorst style of "players who aren't good enough to play for United", I notice Aaron Cresswell isn't playing much for West Ham. :nervous:

PSG have about 3 LBs in Bernat, Kurzawa and Mendes apart from Hernandez who can play there as well. Maybe worth a loan deal for one of those 3.

Just play Dalot.

If we do sign an emergency fullback, I'd imagine it's a depth issue as much as anything. Dalot might be fine to start but we're then leaving ourselves thinner again if AWB were to pick up a knock.

Yep. I'd prefer to see him start against Forest because he seems to have the raw materials and I'm not a fan of square pegs in round holes. There's no real joined up thinking when it comes to younger players at this club unless they are a really exceptional talent though, I fully expect Dalot to play there for the foreseeable.

I’m not even sure the players know what system we want to play

Why would would we not give Fernandez the chance? He had a good season in the championship last year and looked decent and thought he stood out as one of our better players against Bilboa in pre season.

Shaw played well in Maguire's positon, might as well give Maguire a go in his- It's only fair.

Seriously though, give Fernandez a go? He looks alright, maybe he'll take a step up.

Maguire can’t even play well in his own position, never mind a new one!

In all honesty, we don't have to sign anyone, unless he is a starter. We have 2 players that will return. Play Dalot there with Fernandez as a rotation option. We have 2 games left before the international break.

How are we ever going to find out if Fernandez is good enough if he doesn't get a sniff when all our other left backs are injured? He had a good season at Preston and albeit a bit wreckless at times, had a good pre-season. Dalot can also cover.

Also, what's the alternative? To go into the market to bring in a LB version of Weghorst on a short term deal? There's a reason clubs are willing to let players go on short term deals - they aren't good enough to begin with.

Let's not fill the squad out with even more mediocrity.

Personally I'd be inclined to let Fernandez get a chance too, at least as a back-up.

But in hand with that, you have to accept that he might not be good enough and might cost us results if/when he has to play. Which you would the have to suck up, as that's the risk with trusting kids. There's no point calling for Fernandez to play now if you're going to bitch about him and/or ETH if it doesn't work out.

And based on some of the histrionic responses on here after one loss, I'm guessing a fair few posters wouldn't be of that sanguine disposition.

It all depends on exactly how long Shaw & Malacia are out for too.

Weird we're after a short term LB when we've literally no cover for DM all season.

But surely Malacias fit by then? There's an international break coming, it's literally the case of navigating a few fixtures.
