Gonna be tough to get the Stretford End singing his surname to the Bayraktar song

Welcome! In the 2mins of youtube highlights I've seen of him in 2x speed, I'm convinced he's the next Peter Schmeichel. On a serious note, hope he gives Onana a serious challenge for the starting spot.

Could've had Onana or even De Gea on a free, but we've paid over £4m for a guy I barely know.
The club is in the mud. Maybe

With his current form, this transfer's absurdity is on par with Bebe's. He makes scandalous errors.

He looked to be okey a couple of years ago and it was rumored that Ajax was interested in signing him. His performances has been going bad ever since. He had his struggles with Fenerbahce's supporters so maybe that did not help him.

Looking forward to see how he does while Onana is away in the winter. Welcome Altay.

With Onana maybe going to the African Nation, he could be number 1 for a while, now that is scary.
Never seen him play, is he actually any good? Or just another bang average squad player ?
Fenerbahce fans could not stand him because they thought he was not good enough... for Fenerbahce.

Get rid of half a dozen goalies in the same window.

Waste decent money and a non-homegrown spot on a poundland Barthez.

The United way.

From what I’ve read he was very highly rated as a good modern goalkeeper (sweeper and use of his feet etc). He’s also 6’6 so quite a physical presence.

Anyway during his development he suffered a back injury, was absent for a while then struggled last season and made a few howlers by all accounts.

It seems he’s a bit of a gamble but has the raw talent and skill set.

£4.3 million down the swanny.

Not good enough for Fenerbache, but good enough for us?

Should have kept Kovar.

We had a couple Fener fans in the transfer thread and the assessment was more mixed than that. But he didn't have a good season (or two seasons) and was on the outs.
Guess we're guaranteed to see him a few starts if Onana is going to AFCON so we'll get to judge on the actual performances.

Welcome taibi mark 2. Look forward to all the clangers you'll drop when Onana is away on international duty.

Yikes. One of my close friends is a fenerbahce fan and thinks he’s shite. Only saving grace is he’s not that big of a football fan anymore so his scouting might be shite

So sounds like he's a decent modern keeper, very tall. But has struggled the last couple of years, especially with hostility from the fans.

We'll definitely be less hostile but the spotlight will be on him even more than ever.

Kovar is backup at Leverkusen (their captain is the first choice keeper)

We couldve kept him as #2.. Guess the club feels Altay is more capable at as a starter right now.

Thought this was done two weeks ago! Wonder if the club have dragged it out until deadline day so they can announce someone.

That has me a bit puzzled too. Figured Kovar might have dug his heels in over wanting to be #1 but if he's not getting that with his move...

Does Kovar count as homegrown?

£4m seems a lot for a 2nd/3rd choice goalkeeper, considering we reportedly made only a £1m loan offer for Amrabat. Can only imagine Altay's on a tiny salary.

This one confuses me. I've not read or heard a single positive thing about this one, yet.

We let De Gea, Henderson, and Kovar go and got this guy in.

His compilation videos make him look absolutely horrific. I cannot understand this transfer at all.

The thing that I do not understand is how is he going to be able to handle the pressure of being a United goalkeeper. He was visibly affected by all the fan reactions in turkey. I understand we are a bit aggressive bunch but with the whole world watching, in a stadium like old trafford it is going to be difficult for him. I think it was Neville saying that being a United gk is one of the toughest positions to play in premier league.

You watch the compilation videos and hear the feedback from people who follow the Turkish league and wonder why we did not just keep Kovar. A youth goalkeeper who was pretty solid and had title-winning experience in a decent European league. But apparently we are the club who gives youth a chance.

Welcome to the club Altay!

Don’t know much about him really. Just hope he’s ready when he’s called upon.
