I hope this is not a permanent deal. He's a fairly average player who had an outstanding world cup, he's not even in the top 10 midfielders in Italy. There's a reason all the top 6 teams , the UK, Spain and even in Italy are not after him despite having a low fee. Liverpool, who had a huge hole at no 6, passed over him and so did Bayern. He is not going to take us closer to the top teams and will essentially be a squad filler. I'd rather it just be a loan fee and we focus next summer on getting a press resistant, dribbling, athletic midfielder,
True but that’s our level right now so it’s OK. We will probably fight for 3-5 and for that, he will do.

Glad for his sake that this has finally happened. High loan fee for a season though if we don't plan on buying him, guess that's an incentive for him to play well knowing that we can purchase him whenever.

Is that 10m loan and then 10+5, or would the final fee be 10+20+5m

I think he's average but we need bodies in midfield and hopefully he can do the job there. His level is probably similar to Sabitzer. As long as he doesn't commit any blunders we'll be fine.

Pretty sure there's obligation to buy. I don't think Fiorentina would accept a loan offer with his contract situation without an obligation to buy guarantee.
Looks like an option, it's mutually beneficial as the loan fee is relatively expensive. It's the best business I've seen the club do this summer.

Pleased with this. The midfield is finally evolving. Fred has left, McTominay is marginalised. What everyone has wanted for years.

Luckhurst's credibility is taking a battering on this one

Big guns are on it
24m pounds. Not a bad deal. Think if we had the money we could have got him for 20 m I guess.

Worst case scenario- ship him to Saudi for a profit in 2 years.

So it seems they were asking for somewhere between £25m and £30m and we have negotiated a deal where that will still be what it will cost if we keep him but with the added flexibility of a loan. Plus he will surely be playing out of his skin this season to convince us to keep him.

I like the deal.

Leave Slughurst alone, he just had to watch his earpiece get packed off to Palace. If he wasnt drowning in irrelevance already he will be now.

I'll wait until it's official. Agree with your last phrase. I think he will have a bigger impact than Mount but will probably help him settle better in United's midfield.

So with Amrabat and Regullion signed, we now need to spend last hours of the window on some
Additional transfers

Things that would disagree with that:
  • 93rd percentile passes completed
  • 97th percentile completion %
  • 98th percentile passes into final third
  • 97th percentile progressive passes
  • 84th percentile miscontrols (press resistant)
  • 93rd percentile carries
  • 90th percentile take on percentage
  • 89th percentile touches (98th in midfield third)
  • Defensive stats are hard to read off of, but whenever I've watched him he does good defensive work
The stats indicate he was among the very best deep midfielders and dominated midfields in the serie a. Playing for Fiorentina, and not a top team to add. He was far more of a playmaker and controller than Tonali for example.

If that was the case we should've taken the money and run earlier in the window. We've been far from precise in how we've conducted our business this summer.

He held out and got his dream move, happy for him.
Kudos to ETH, he seems to know how to sell his ideas to players, despite the delays due to "logistics" the player waited.

Brilliant business from the club, both this deal and Reguilon as well.
Loan deals saves money, but gives an option to buy later down the line.

Keeps FFP in check but means we get our signings done also,

Excellent work all round.

Serious question though, why did we wait until deadline day to get 3 signings over the line?
Probably to put pressure on Fiorentina to give us the deal we wanted (and could afford) or be stuck with a player who didn't want to be there and only wanted to come here.

Assuming it’s obligation to buy, €35m in total. Will add some of what we’re missing in midfield.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

We couldn’t sell Henderson until late due to his injury, Shaw literally got injured 8 days ago and we only found out the severity this week and on Amrabat I’m assuming obligation/buy was what they always insisted on until now. We clearly aren’t convinced he’s the answer long term.

I'm gonna go overboard here and say that this is a potentially season altering signing, in that we add another quality holding midfielder, which simultaneously means we won't have to run Casemiro into the ground.
I agree and think balance wise, he'll quickly become part of our starting 11 even. Having a deep playmaker will make a big difference. Him and Mount will rotate. Or we see Bruno or Mount wide more often

I think we have a decent group of midfielders at the moment. Bruno, Mount, Eriksen, Casemiro, Amrabat, Mainoo, Scott. Very well balanced.
