Not just in terms of failing to make saves but just how bad his passing was. We constantly ended up having to defend dangerous situations because he would pass straight to the opposition.I see we're whitewashing De Gea's errors this soon already.

Stop making up numbersI agree with you as goalkeeper you don't need to be able to ping a ball 30 40 yards we spend more time passing it the wrong way down the pitch anyway , but honestly who whispered in ETH ear to spend £70mil on him ?? I would have give him some change at half time for a bus ride home , except the pen and the last goal the other 2 wore training shots get rid before the team falls apart
It's pretty telling that Vidic and Evra 17 years ago are always the examples cited when this line gets trotted out. How many players in the intervening 17 years have started off looking like complete donkeys and then gone on to be amazing?I seem to remember Vidic and Evra having less than stellar starts too, good job we didn't bin them off.
Yeah the kneejerking comes too fast and furious at the caf at times. Replacing a long time GK for a club as big is this is daunting. Especially when expectations are sky high and you don't have the first choice D in front of you. I'll admit he hasn't come out of the gates as well as I thought he would, but at this point we should give til at least Dec to start showing signs of improvement and finish out the entire season as well before passing much judgement. We have much bigger fish to fry at the moment. We ve dropped too much cash on players not to be more patient. And yes that sucks.Love De Gea and always stuck up for him on here but I was content with us changing it up and getting Onana. It doesn't take a genius to see how different a GK they both are. I'm completely behind Onana moving forward.
This is no longer a serious conversation.Lies. DDG saves the first two, no problems. He concedes the pen cos he’s shite at them, and the one into the roof of the net by Tel is 50/50 if he reacts in time.
How tf does he save the secondThis is no longer a serious conversation.
It doesn't make it any less true though, the passing of time. You might also ask how many players have we signed that haven't been complete donkeys full stop. Even DDG started out with question marks over him, that didn't turn out so bad. That was 2011, so there's quite a relevant one. It's pretty telling that Vidic and Evra 17 years ago are always the examples cited when this line gets trotted out. Don't you remember De Gea saving a shot just like that first goal today at West Ham last season? This is no longer a serious conversation.

I'm just here for Onana's wild ride. I'll forgive him the floppy wrists when he starts nutmegging strikers on the half-way line.
Logical opinion is that keepers usually take time to set in.An unpopular opinion would be that he’s good.
Arsenal won 4-0 tonight with Raya in the Sticks. Clean sheet.
Onana did not keep a clean sheet and even poppadum wrists the first one into the net himself.
A clean sheet in the CL is a clean sheet in the CL. The worlds most elite club competition after all. What a terrible way of comparing the two keepers.
PSV aren’t Bayern.

DDG started his career like this...he will turn this around. The whole team is in a malaise and its spreading through the team. We need a spark and confidence win to get going. Onana was not this bad previously...weather the storm..stay strong.
For me, this is spot on. Agree 100%We've gone too far down the keeper being 'good with his feet' route before we have an outfield team that is ready for it.

Disagree. DDG wasn’t perfect, but he was perfectly serviceable while we addressed the bigger issues in the squad. Feels like we might have created another issue in GK, rather than solved one.Two things can be true at once.
1. We needed to spend that money on a new keeper.
2. We should have signed a different keeper.
1. Was 100% obviously true by the end of last season (actually long before then).
It’s still too early to be sure that 2. is true.
By that logic a clean sheet against Man City is the same as a clean sheet against Royal Antwerp. Amazing logic.A clean sheet in the CL is a clean sheet in the CL. The worlds most elite club competition after all.
DDG was worse than he has been for about 4 years. And yet people on here still believe that he should have been kept...
So after 5 or 6 games, we'll write Onana off.
Seems fair.
The alternative to letting DDG go at the end of his contract was keeping him for 4 years at 200k/week. Those were the agreed terms. There is no scenario where we keep him for a year while we sort out other issues.Disagree. DDG wasn’t perfect, but he was perfectly serviceable while we addressed the bigger issues in the squad. Feels like we might have created another issue in GK, rather than solved one.
That doesn’t help United this year though does it?To perform to an elite level in goal, like Onana did last year for Inter
