Bloody hell, Charlton, Zaggallo and Beckenbaur in quick succession.
RIP
RIP
Beckenbauer had a quiet game too. They cancelled each other out. Unbeknownst to Franz, Alf Ramsey had instructed Bobby to do the same thing.Beckenbauer's man-marking of Sir Bobby Charlton in the 1966 World Cup Final is pointed to as one of the great examples of how it's done.
Charlton was England's best player at the World Cup (he won the Ballon D'Or in 1966) but he had a quiet game in the final - testament to the marking job Beckenbauer did on him.
It really does not bode well for Deschamps.Three men have won the world cup as player and as manager. Two of them have passed away in the last 3 days!
I had forgotten about my Beckenbauer boots till you mentioned it. All my heroes are dying. He was brilliant, loved him.First pair of boots I owned were Beckenbauer. RIP .
That was the great thing about him that he could man mark, play libero, play box to box midfielder, could do it all.Beckenbauer's man-marking of Sir Bobby Charlton in the 1966 World Cup Final is pointed to as one of the great examples of how it's done.

Old guard has barely any left living.
He won and CaptainedThe word legend gets used a lot nowadays but here it really fits the bill. Fantastic player and his accomplishments are galore. Besides being one of only three men to win the WC as a player and manager, he's also one of the very few to have win the WC, Euros, Champions league and a Ballon d'Or.
Rest in peace.
He was heavily scrutinized in the German media for his involvement for getting the World Cup 2006 to Germany (some corruption was involved there). That really disappointed him and he became less of a public figure afterwards. I always found this to be completely exaggerated. FIFA is corrupt and if you want to get a world cup, it's probably not possible without some bribery. I'm fine with it, as long as countries with a large football community get the World cup (Germany, England, Brazil, or even South Korea or Japan - all these countries live and love football). I'm partial but the WC in Germany was one of the best WCs I remember and most fans would agree. People only take an issue if countries like Qatar get it.In what way?
RIP to a football legend
Shit man. That's too funny in a serious thread. It really does not bode well for Deschamps.
On both sides. Geoff Hurst is the sole England survivor. I know that many of the West German side are gone too. Hans Tilkowski, the goalie, died in 2020 and I think Helmut Haller left us in 2012 or 2013. I believe that Wolfgang Overath is still with us and Wolfgang Weber, the man who scored Germany's equalizer to make it 2-2 is still going strong. Ziggi Held is also alive. I'm sure out German brothers on here can add to that list.R.I.P, can’t be many left form the 66 final .
Karl-Heinz Schnellinger and Willi Schulz are still alive as well, at 84 and 85 years old respectively. On both sides. Geoff Hurst is the sole England survivor. Some longevity in the German side. Uwe Seeler passed away not too long ago. Remembering those names takes me back to the summer of 1966 when the world came to England. I didn't get to see England play in the flesh but we did see Brazil, North Korea, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Hungary. I expect many of those players too have left us.Karl-Heinz Schnellinger and Willi Schulz are still alive as well, at 84 and 85 years old respectively.
Absolutely. Well saidRIP. Best ever German player and greatest ever Sweeper. Absolute legend.
