Since his move to the PL he’s managed 1 minute of football from the bench.

After the season he had for Forest, and against PL opposition in their cup run, surely he should be getting more of an opportunity this season ahead of Emerson Royal and Doherty.

He’s coming up to 23 years old and needs more regular football at this point. Is there any reason why he’s seemingly being frozen out by Conte?

It’s very bizarre. He’s made 3 appearances in the premier league as a sub. All of them for less than a minute of normal playing time. One of them against us. Like what is the point?

Conte has his favourites and very rarely uses the younger squad players. Spence is one, Bryan Gil is another, Rodon last season.

Conte simply doesn’t trust anyone outside of his first XI (or maybe 14). Complains to the board that he needs players and then refuses to play them.

Conte said he was a Spurs signing and not his signing which is probably the reason for the lack of playing time. But I just don't see how Emerson is preferred - Emerson is truly an absolutely shocking RB.

He was a club signing rather than a Conte signing so that's probably it.

Emerson Royale and Doherty have to be up there as 2 of the worst full backs/wing backs in the league. Unfortunately for spurs they are battling it out with each other for the spot.

Someone like Tariq Lamptey would thrive in that spurs set up.

Considering how bad Emerson Royal is, you’d have to question why Spence isn’t playing. Emerson is atrocious

I have some Boro supporting mates and they consider him to have a poor attitude and is apparently the reason why Warnock shipped him out on loan to Forest last season.

There’s a reason Forest didn’t sign him after the season he had.

Immediately after winning the Play-Offs he posted a tweet aimed at Warnock and Boro, says it all.

The only issue chippy Boro fans have is that he succeeded at another club and help got them promoted. Rather then eat a slice of humble pie they cling on to the bad attitude line. It’s a win win for all concerned, Forest benefited for a year, the player got into the England squad and Boro get millions for a reserve player they didn’t rate. On one hand yes he’s a young lad with a few rough edges but he was the model pro with us.
He was also straight with us in saying he wanted a move to Spurs before the end of last season. He’s from London and I think a Spurs fan. I wish him the best.

Being good in the championship doesn’t equate to being a starter at PL level. Look at garner. He needs to take his chance when he gets it

Oh I know, I just find it odd given Emerson and Doherty are hardly doing well in a role that is very important to Conte and his system.

To not give the player more than a minute of action so far seems a tad like an agenda?

While I agree with your point it's a bit different for Garner and Spence because Emerson has been really poor compared to Iwobi/Gana/Onana.

I suppose my point is that being rated in the championship doesn’t necessarily mean you can transition easily to the PL.

He can't be happy with that. I think it's time for DJ Ed Spence to make some noise.

Wonder if Conte stays at Spurs whether he would be available, might be a decent young backup option.

He will probably only get a fair chance with the next manager but he wasted a year of his development.

Spence is at his best as a wingback. Play him in a back 4 and you effectively muzzle him. When we played a back 3 in the champ, Worrall spent most of the season covering at RB as Spence bombed forward. I wonder if the reason he isn’t getting time at Spurs is he doesn’t do the defending side of the game well enough for Conte?

Going to Spurs was a mistake though. Still he earned the move and I hope it works out for him.

Seems his loan at Leeds have been terminated by Leeds as he's sent back to Spurs. Apparently hints at professionalism/discipline issues perhaps.

Farke said: “After a little bit of time after the New Year’s game we’ve analysed the first half of the season, the first months and especially also the impressions over the festive periods. Obviously when you make decisions in January, it’s not a short-term decision.

“It’s more like you’re thinking over situations even in the weeks and the month before, but we wanted also to take the impressions of the festive period into account and then there was a time also to share the thoughts and to discuss the things. We came to the conclusion that we will end the loan for Djed and he will return to Tottenham. We are grateful for his time here.

“He’s a player of great potential and also a cool guy with a really good heart so we really wish him all the best. But yeah, sometimes you need to take a decision. I don’t want to talk too much about Djed right now, because he’s meanwhile also back at Tottenham, and I totally respect that he’s their player.

“Listen, in the summer we came here in order to create and to bring new values and to create a new culture within the club and when we speak about a player if he’s on here on a permanent or a loan deal, we have expectations and these expectations are in several topics important.

“Obviously it’s important, the potential and the quality of the player but also it’s professionalism, it’s discipline, it’s workload on and off the pitch. And also the soft skills, so also if he’s positive and committed, good for the group and engaged with these topics, to paint then more or less a picture.

“We decided ‘okay, this is the player we want in our group and want to represent Leeds United’. But our demands are very, very high and we don’t differ between loan players and permanent players, so we are pretty picky in this topic.”

Spence has not impressed sufficiently to be rewarded with game time in north London and Football Insider claim that Tottenham are now ‘willing to sell’ the right-back in January on a permanent deal.

I did see this. Something clearly not right with him.

Crazy I started this thread in October ‘22 and it’s now January ‘24 and his career has totally regressed. Looked such a good player.

Didn’t he take a pop at warnock or someone when he made it to the premier league? Weird how his career has gone since his move.

Yes, because interestingly enough...Warnock questioned if he had the mentality to make it to the top.

To be fare - his reply was a picture sat in the Wembley changing room at full time. Warnock sent him out on loan to us from Boro.

A brief look at Leeds’ season so far, he’s been injured a good part of it plus Leeds play with a back 4 so why they took him on loan in the first place is odd. The few times we were forced to play a back 4 through injury in the promotion season Spence was all but anonymous. Even in a back 5 Worrall spent a lot of time at RB covering him.

Yeah, absolutely. I remember not knowing much about him at all, then seeing his thread on here with a clamour to sign him as a competing right back for us.

At 23 years old, it's probably now or never !!
Lots of natural talent and he is used being a big deal but his star is falling fast.
I said at the time that people were getting carried away by his form in the championship. It’s like night and day from the PL

He’s not had a chance in the Prem. 4 sub appearances in the whole of 22/23.

That's now Warnock, Conte, Ange and Farke who have all been unimpressed by his attitude. It's frustrating because he has a lot of the attributes you'd want in a player but it's worthless if he doesn't want to put the work in. Hopefully he realises soon but it doesn't seem likely at this point.

If United had a player that multiple managers said has a poor attitude, I hope we’d get rid of him. Even if just a loan and we had to fund some of his wages… better gone
