Terrible idea. It will lead to the team with 10 men wasting time on the pitch until their player gets back in. It wreaks havoc with tactics and playstyle which destroys the game.

Just improve and apply more consistently the current rules and speed up VAR checks please.

Is it like hockey style, where once penalty is up they can jog onto field, or like going off after injury, where ref needs to wave them back on?

Already have paused the idea

It's honestly like the people making decisions don't consult anyone and have never played football at any level.et backlash and they panic.

I won’t be surprised if this will actually turned out to be a great thing.

Remember the reactions when VAR was going to be implemented? Everyone was “excited”. This time, it is the opposite. So who knows.

Atheist refs will clearly have no truck with the concept of sin. This whole notion is a recipe for chaos.

I honestly don't remember the excitement of VAR. The vast majority of people I know where dead against and the ones all for it most of them are against it now.

How about spend a summer with referees and VAR officials and train them up properly on how to run the game ?

I just can’t understand why they’d bring in another rule that the decision can be analysed even further on when they can’t get the basics right as it stands.

I wouldn’t even say the offence for a ‘blue card’ decision has been something we’ve all been skeptical of that much this season in comparison to all the other ridiculous decisions. ‘Is it a foul?’ is hard enough for these guys with full VAR support

I have no idea either, yet.
It's a great idea in other sports. But in football some teams will be able to kill games for 10 mins. Imagine a Diego Simeone team with 10 mins to kill.

How about you refs actually make the most out of VAR and set up certain patterns to follow rather than being incosistent as feck ya sin bin bollix worshippers. Think youre so smart arent you? "Yesssh we have red lets make it blue, is a new rule we came up with we are so cool". Meanwhile for multiple similar incidents sometimes you give out red sometimes you dont, sometimes you punish players for time wasting and add more additional time sometimes you dont. Feck off. The rules are enough its the implementation. You can add more cards till you can make a rainbow but if the implementation is inconsistent they wont be helpful. Fecking Yami Yugi wannabe. Heart of the cards idiots. "Hurr durr is a red for Casemiro but not for other players huehue". "Is ManUnited so lets not give them penalty because theyve had 3 from other refs".

Let's introduce a green card too for when a team exceeds 10 fouls per game. That will discourage teams like Burnley from fouling too much, and will open up the game more! Great idea... Right guys?

Just dish out the red cards I don’t get it, abuse a ref red card, “tactical foul” someone with no intent to get the ball, red card.

I do like the idea that it could stop those really annoying tactical fouls.

The downside could be that teams will just waste 10 minutes of playing times or that Pep-like possession tactics wouldnt be viable anymore. One bad pass that can currently be 'saved' by a tactical foul (and sometimes a yellow card) would result in playing with 10 men if there would be a rule change.

Those type of possession tactics not being viable anymore because even Pep his best teams couldnt keep the ball in the team for the entire match. It could result in very boring matches where both teams are so afraid of a counter that both will always keep a certain amount of players at the back. Attackers will always be outnumbered by defenders and a lot less goals will be scored. That wouldnt be fun to watch.... but neither are tactical fouls.

I like the idea of sending players to the sideline for cynical fouls but it's got to be clearcut examples, anything which introduces discretion will get fecked up by the useless refs.

Maybe a better idea would be to keep two cards but getting a yellow gives you 5 minutes off the pitch.

Pointless. Any benefits of this could be achieved with better use of red and yellow cards.

Why the constant moves to overcomplicate a game which is always at its best when it's at its simplest?
A smokescreen to cover the sheer incompetence of most Referees.

How about they just use the yellow cards already in their possession and book them for cynical fouls and for dissent? What happens when the ref award a penalty and 5 players surround him and argue? All 5 get blue? Then the match is forfeit or would they allow some farcical 11 v 6 for ten minutes? It’s so unworkable. You don’t even get a 10 minute major in hockey unless you fight, and the you’re ejected anyway. The refs already have the tools they need: just use them.

And get rid of VAR.

Yes exactly.
Why should discent and cynical fouls not be a yellow card.
I can already imagine the confusion.
Why was that a blue card instead of a yellow and visa versa.
Most of the post match discussion already is about refereeing decisions.
This will only increase with introducing another card.

If they want to revise the rules of football, how about sorting out the hand ball rule. Because it is a complete mess.
Hand ball should be awarded for a deliberate hand ball. That is when a player moves his hand towards the ball and not when the hand is still and the ball hits the hand.

After today’s handball penalties they awarded, things are broken. Defender had their back turned and the ball deflected onto their arm, it’s ridiculous. I hope the hue and cry is strong enough to get them to change their minds on this blue card disaster.

Yes, me too. The rules already are not being implemented correctly and in the case of handball urgently need simplification.

Spot on

Here are the list of offenses from the laws of the game where a yellow card is applicable

CAUTIONABLE OFFENCES

A player is cautioned if guilty of:

delaying the restart of play
dissent by word or action
entering, re-entering or deliberately leaving the field of play without the referee’s permission
failing to respect the required distance when play is restarted with a dropped ball, corner kick, free kick or throw-in
persistent offences (no specific number or pattern of offences constitutes “persistent”)
unsporting behaviour
entering the referee review area (RRA)
excessively using the 'review' (TV screen) signal
A substitute or substituted player is cautioned if guilty of:
delaying the restart of play
dissent by word or action
entering or re-entering the field of play without the referee’s permission
unsporting behaviour
entering the referee review area (RRA)
excessively using the 'review' (TV screen) signal
Where two separate cautionable offences are committed (even in close proximity), they should result in two cautions, for example if a player enters the field of play without the required permission and commits a reckless tackle or stops a promising attack with a foul/handball, etc.

CAUTIONS FOR UNSPORTING BEHAVIOUR

There are different circumstances when a player must be cautioned for unsporting behaviour including if a player:
attempts to deceive the referee e.g. by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)
changes places with the goalkeeper during play or without the referee’s permission (see Law 3)
commits in a reckless manner a direct free kick offence
handles the ball to interfere with or stop a promising attack
commits any other offence which interferes with or stops a promising attack except where the referee awards a penalty kick for an offence which was an attempt to play the ball or for a challenge for the ball
denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by committing an offence which was an attempt to play the ball or challenge for the ball and the referee awards a penalty kick
handles the ball in an attempt to score a goal (whether or not the attempt is successful) or in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent a goal
makes unauthorised marks on the field of play
plays the ball when leaving the field of play after being given permission to leave
shows a lack of respect for the game
initiates a deliberate trick for the ball to be passed (including from a free kick or goal kick) to the goalkeeper with the head, chest, knee etc. to circumvent the Law, whether or not the goalkeeper touches the ball with the hands; the goalkeeper is cautioned if responsible for initiating the deliberate trick
verbally distracts an opponent during play or at a restart
CELEBRATION OF A GOAL

Players can celebrate when a goal is scored, but the celebration must not be excessive; choreographed celebrations are not encouraged and must not cause excessive time-wasting.

Leaving the field of play to celebrate a goal is not a cautionable offence but players should return as soon as possible.

A player must be cautioned, even if the goal is disallowed, for:

climbing onto a perimeter fence and/or approaching the spectators in a manner which causes safety and/or security issues
gesturing or acting in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way
covering the head or face with a mask or other similar item
removing the shirt or covering the head with the shirt
DELAYING THE RESTART OF PLAY

Referees must caution players who delay the restart of play by:
appearing to take a throw-in but suddenly leaving it to a team-mate to take
delaying leaving the field of play when being substituted
excessively delaying a restart
kicking or carrying the ball away, or provoking a confrontation by deliberately touching the ball after the referee has stopped play
taking a free kick from the wrong position to force a retake

Why the feck is a new card being invented for just 2 of these infractions? "It'll speed the game up and allow more counters"... What bollocks.

Because when a player purposely stops a counter attack a yellow card does nothing. It punishes them weeks down the line if/when they accrue enough for a ban. The punishment needs to be immediate and benefit the team that was fouled.

Blue cards should not be used for dissent.

No. It’s inviting interpretation to new levels of personal taste peculiarities, and the style and tempo of the game will change with these 10 minute power plays. It’s a stupid idea. There’s no way it will be applied uniformly. People need to stop fecking with the game.

By that logic giving a player a yellow card for any foul, or for excessive celebration, or any other offense on the big feck off list I posted, does nothing, as it punishes them weeks down the line.

And it's not true that it isn't a punishment in the immediate. You become less aggressive as any subsequent mistake gets you sent off.

And the stakes are higher in knockout competitions. No player wants to miss a final or semi final due to accumulated yellows.

A yellow carded Rodri or Fabinho opens the game up for the opposition more, they'd take that going into the game.
