That is insane crazy.
Eheh, it's more like a perfect example of how the way numerical data are presented can sway our judgement.

"In the last three years and a half Rashford has scored in one out of 3.5 games played for Utd" sounds much different and it's exactly the same data point.

A goal every 3.5 games looks just as terrible for someone whose biggest attribute is to be scoring and creating goals

The only team that matters
I think it's an Irish thing to put 'so' at the end of sentences where others might use 'then'. That would make: 'Testimonial next year then?'

But of course now @Oscar Bonavena will tell us to have never even been to Ireland.
Probably but he'll have been in an 'Irish Pub'

Of course, a top club like Utd should have someone that scores way more in his position.

But I mantain that "scores every 3.5 games" doesn't sound as insanely crazy as "didn't score in 100 of the last 140 games".

It’s not the most shocking stat by any means but I saw on Reddit that it’s Januzaj’s birthday today (29! How time flies…) so went onto his Wikipedia and was surprised to see he only scored 5 goals for us, 4 of them in that first season.

It felt like for the level of hype at the time he would have easily been on double or even triple that.

The hype was because we lost every week and he was the shining light. The reality was he had a fair few average games where his lack of pace was evident but we all overlooked it

Newcastle and West Ham didn't play in the first season of the Premier League
That one never feels 'right'. All those ''it's a whole new ball game!" promos never once factored in the crests of West Ham and Newcastle? It's just weird.

Whatever teams people consider to comprise a pure/definitive/nostalgic Premier League to contain, those two would be named by everyone. So it's weird to think they were in relative obscurity when the glitz and quids of Sky Sports rolled into town.

One I'll repeat.

Between 1990 and 2013, there was only two occasions where United went into the final game of the season knowing we would definitely end the season without a major trophy (1998 and 2002)

On every other occasion, we either had a cup final to come, had already won something or were champions/still fighting for the title.

Crazy.

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 411 goals since turning 30 years old, that's more than the career goals of...

PlayerGoals Count (Club and Country)
T.Henry411
D.Villa400
Neymar375
Shevchenko374
Drogba367
Van Nistelrooy366
Rooney366
Ronaldo360
Del Piero343
Platini338
Cruyff327
Van Persie324
Totti316
Di Stefano315
Van Basten301
Torres301
Maradona194

Note: Only goals scored in the top division of the top European leagues are counted.

You know what's even crazier? Lukaku is on 379 career goals right now, thats more than everyone but the top two above. And Villa is in his sights, He should end his career with more goals than Henry.

Shaw has been at the club for almost 10 years.

Time is not supposed to fly by so fast! :(

The great Liverpool team of the early 80s, who some people say were the greatest of all time, finished 5th in the 1980-81 season.

It's funny how Souness never mentions that!

Anything remotely decent at that club is always touted as the greatest of all time ever never to be surpassed

They won the European cup that season though, the last time Madrid lost a European final.

Still weird for a team that won 2 titles in a row before and after that season.

Madrid lost to Fergie's Aberdeen in the Cup Winner's Cup final in 82/83.

Martial's in his ninth season at the club. He'll have qualified for a testimonial if he survives to the end of next season.

Speaking of Ronaldo's goal record, in 21 years he has never scored against England, Italy or Brazil and he only has 1 against Germany and Argentina. He does have 11 against Luxembourg though.

Lukaku has twice as many goals against the mighty Estonia as he has against England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Brazil and Argentina combined.

As Eusebio said when Ronaldo passed him in the scoring charts: "The comparisons make me sad. It's easier now. I never played against Liechtenstein and Azerbaijan".

Another reason why goal stats suck

Goals stats may suck, but this is just cherrypicking. Ronaldo has scored against Spain (3) and France (2). Since he's also scored against Germany (1) and Argentina (1), that means he's scored against the last 4 World Cup winners, which is more relevant than scoring against England.

Well firstly his goal against Argentina was 13 years ago in a friendly so them winning the world cup recently is completely and utterly irrelevant. His goals against Spain were 8 years after they won the world cup also. Then, just look at his record:

Goals by opponent
Opponent Goals
Luxembourg 11
Lithuania 7
Sweden 7
Andorra 6
Hungary 6
Armenia 5
Latvia 5
Switzerland 5
Bosnia and Herzegovina 4
Estonia 4
Faroe Islands 4

He's a flat track bully, at international level at least. He didn't even need to play a lot of those games, especially for not the whole 90 mins or close to it. He just wants to stat pad. He bragged recently about the number of goals he's scoring in the Saudi league.

When England reached the1982 World Cup, it was the first they qualified for the tournament in 20 years.

Brazil has won at least once against every nation they have played against except for one nation. In 4 attempts, they have not been able to beat Norway

Hugo Sanchez scored 38 goals for Real Madrid in the 1989/90 season. All 38 goals were scored with a one-touch, first time finish.

That was a sympathy call up. As far as I remember he was well into his thirties at that stage. He was right to reject it
33/34 years old and the call-up was for a friendly against Nigeria, for which England were short of centre-backs.

Steve Howey got his first cap in the game, and Neil Ruddock his only cap.

Bruce, rightly, considered it a sympathy call-up, and had actually received an apology for not being called up a year or two prior from Bobby Robson when United were playing Benfica.
