I’ll always maintain Shinji would have had a better time here if we hadn’t signed RVP that same summer.
He was bought as a 10…after an unbelievable season at dortmund that saw him get in European team of the year.
Can’t blame SAF of course for signing RVP, but Shinji behind Rooney could have been devastating.
With RVP arrival he was shoehorned in (out of his natural position) on to the left side. A terrible shame.
He's fifth-best for expected assists behind Eriksen, Casemiro, Rashford, and Bruno.

The statistics are per 90 minutes. His chance creation starts are only surpassed by Eriksen, but his big chance creation numbers are outperformed by five other players. He also has the second most touches in the box, just behind Garnacho, but his expected goals (XG) numbers are even worse than his expected assist (XA) numbers.
So it was correct to say he creates the second most chances in the team. But it was Eriksen and not Bruno who was ahead.
Given he plays alot less than the others Im not suprised they caught up in terms of “big chances created”
Hopefully, a new system and playing style work for him. Many seem to see a potentially great player in him, but I fail to see what the fuss is about as it stands.

Same here. I don't get it how hyped he is. I hope that he will be able to showcase his talent. But didn't think he was a world beater at the beginning of the season and I can understand, why he didn't play the last few weeks. Lacks the stamina as he always has to pass back.
The other players surpass him historically and in current contributions. He has 12 career top-flight goal involvements across 4 clubs, while Garnacho and Rashford have 8 and 7, respectively, this season alone.
He also had way less minutes…. and goals is not the only requirement.
By that logic Garnacho shouldn’t have got a look in over Sancho.
Amad needs more minutes to demonstrate
Garnacho surpassed Sancho in the starting line-up because he seized the opportunity to score and create goals when he played. In contrast, Amad has not done that.
Actually Garnacho started last season in the line up and was poor. Got dropped but got minutes off the bench later to build his momentum back
In contrast Amad has played well winning player of the month and was then dropped after 2 sub par games never to be seen again. With the manager even playing a fullback at number 10 when Bruno was suspended.
Amad's goal and assist statistics suggest that he has had more than two subpar games so far this season.
Good thing there is something called eyes which you can use to see players missing from chances he created. Also I said 2 before he was dropped after being player of the month and in a time where Garnacho and Rashford also had subpar games and Mazrouri has a heart procedure and started ahead of him
I will wait to see how he performs under a new manager, as I don't recall him creating many gilt-edge chances. Players have missed more clear-cut opportunities created by Rashford and Bruno. The chances that Amad has made haven't been any more dangerous than those made by Mazraoui, Zirkzee, Casemiro, or Dalot.
Of course they have both played alot more (Bruno and Rashford)
I agree with your posts here. Amad needs a proper run. His stats are actually good considering his limited game time. Before ETH in his infinite wisdom decided to drop him, Amad was leading the PL in sheer number of progressive carries.
Amad plays those thread the needle passes that none of our other wingers bar Sancho (when he’s on it) are capable of. We need that variety in play style from our wingers. He doesn’t need to be an aggressive kick, run and shoot at every opportunity player like Garnacho or a run into open space player from balls over the top like Rashford to be able to make positive contributions

If Amorims front 3 players are more half 10's/half wingers than you would think that suits him perfectly

Agreed, the floating right forward position in Amorim’s system is a great fit for him.
His drop off in form allowed Garnacho back into the team, he wasn't mistreated. At the start of the season Amad was performing very well and then became a bit of a passenger so was replaced.
I'm not sure Garnacho has been all much better, if at all. And if it's appropriate to drop a player after one poor performance, then how do we explain ETH playing Rashford match after match, no matter how poor his play has been?
We're all in agreement that players have to fight to keep their positions, but ETH's disparate treatment of the players, especially the wingers -- Rashford, Antony, Garnacho and Amad -- contributed to the decline of their performances, by rewarding poor performances to some and punishing one poor by others, and his own demise.
It was our poor wing play above all over the last 24 months that crippled our attack and results.
People are really doubting him after he has barely featured, mainly down to managerial incompetence.

Is Rashford also responsible for Sancho?
Erik's tactics and transfer policy brought about his demise.
But at the end of the day places were always there to be won, if players got a chance and performed they stayed in, as did Amad at the start of the season, he then dropped off and Garnacho came back in.
Rashford and Garnacho are our top goals and assists guys this season, so maybe that's why Erik selected them maybe?
I'm not sure I understand the implied connection between Rashford and Sancho. Sancho performed poorly, but it was his off-pitch behavior that sent him to the doghouse. Rashford isn't exactly a model professional, but after his drinking binge in Belfast, which had nothing to do with Sancho, he has remained off the bottle.
There's a lot to criticize about ETH, who I urged be sacked in June, including his poor transfer decisions, but his tactics of relying so heavily on wingers to score goals brought about his demise.
The point earlier was that Amad gets dropped after one bad performance, while Rashford put in 18 months of poor performances and never got dropped. That's exceedingly poor management by the manager.
Calm down. We were ineffective with him in the team as well.
I remain calm. I'm not suggesting that with Amad all our problems would go away and that we would do a treble, but ETH's treatment of Amad was not exemplary. It's one thing to have a preference for certain players, but it's quite another thing to hold a double-standard for some players over others regardless of how poor the performances of those players may have been.
A counterexample is Onana, who was shockingly poor last season. It made perfect sense for ETH to stick with Onana and force him to see through his poor form. You don't lightly bench keepers. But when you have a player who performs well, benching that player in favor or players who consistently perform poorly is not a good move by a manager.
Agreed, his treatment of Diallo was poor. He gave multiple chances to Rashford and Garnacho who missed plenty of chances, lost the ball alot, well Garnacho lost the ball for the West Ham goal, which is very similar to what he did last year away, forgot who we played.
Diallo played well and was down the pecking order even to Antony at the end who had no impact this season whatsoever.
You brought Rashford into the discussion, like he was responsible, so I asked if you thought it was also Rashford's fault Sancho didn't play. At the end of the day Erik gave chances to all players. Amad kept his place until Garnacho forced him out. Like I said Garnacho & Rashford have our top goal involvement stats this season.
It wasn't 1 bad performance and again Amad was keeping Garnacho out of the team, until he wasn't. So it's irrelevant that Rashford was selected in a position Amad doesn't play in.
Now the manager has been removed, lets see who earns their places in the team
Don't forget the two games Rashford looked like there was life in him again caused the manager to choose that moment to drop him.
Literally none of our problems went away. You can have a discussion about his treatment of Amad if you want, but it didn’t affect our effectiveness in attack at all.
I’ve watched Amad run into defenders, fail to find players in the box, shoot against defenders, give the ball away, fail to block crosses. All the things that Garnacho and Rashford are accused of continually.
I’m not posting this to shit on Amad or hype up Rashford/Garnacho, but it’s just not right to suggest Amad was doing any more with his opportunities at that the start of the season. They have all looked equally ineffective.
I hope Amorim gives his kid a proper run of games.
Amad is incredibly overrated on here. Don't get me wrong - I like him and think he deserves a go, but he hasn't shown he has the same top level as Garnacho and Rashford. He also has some issues staying onside for some reason.
I am not impressed by the argument that ETH was correct to start Rashford match after match, month after month, regardless of how poor his form was but that he was right to bench Amad after one poor performance, preceded by a string of excellent performances.
But you are right that overall team play was poor, regardless of whether Rashford was poor or Amad was brilliant.

Who has had the bigger sample size to judge this though. One has started consistently, and the other sparingly.
Nice overall game from him. Should’ve started ahead of Zirkzee. Too bad the bicycle kick didn’t go in.
Looked really lively when we gave him the ball. Nearly scored the goal of the season with that overhead kick. He picks up some really intelligent positions and looks for those 1-2's so often but there aren't many in this team who are on his wavelength if we are being honest.
Really refreshing to watch. I do think he's better suited centrally than out wide. Seems to compliment his strengths better.
