It served no purpose other than ‘look at me spinning around under zero pressure’. It would have been a different story if he used it to beat a man, but literally anyone can spin around in a circle when there’s no one near them.

Kick ups would have been more impressive.

If you want to do tricks for the sake of them, do them in the warm up to impress the crowd. In a match, do it to gain a tactical advantage, heck do it for no reason whatsoever as long as you don't mess up the simple stuff.

Just watch that gif and think about the better passing options that were available at that moment. I can see at least 3. Maybe he'd have seen them too if he wasn't spinning.

Football is entertainment. He is an entertainer. And I’m pretty sure I would fall over or lose the ball if I tried that spin!

He was buying himself time until the player making the off the ball run was in a position to receive the ball. Sure, Antony could simply have stood there with the ball and done nothing or done a few kick ups as you say. Instead, he did his signature spin and idiots mocked him for it.

If you look at the zoomed out video the defender doesn’t know what to do, he doesn’t get close and Antony’s quick knock out of his feet beats him. Literally just a shame the pass was crappy.

And watching it again, the ball receiver doesn’t exactly bust a gut to get on the end of the pass. He could have got it if he tried.

I am just spitballing here. I don't see him as part of the front 3 as all of Fernanez, Amad, Garnacho Rashford and Hojlund are better than him. The only use Amorim might have for him will be as a LWB. But I agree, it's most likely curtains for him here.
 
Spinning in circles normally does not bring you much further. But yes maybe he just got disoriented before the pass.

Wrong, he messed up his peripheral vision by spinning around then knocked the ball out of play. It was utter rubbish.

Judging from your posting history you appear to be a massive fan of Antony, even going so far as to label him a "terrific player". Why then in your opinion has it not worked out at United and what do you believe his level is? Basing it on his career to date he is an Eredivisie level player, but this could change depending on where he moves in January and how well he performs there.

He wasn't playing under ten Hag last spell I don't think Amorim will rate him. Most likely to be loaned in January and loaned again in the summer.

I don't think we can get rid of him until his contract expires, it's not a case of him not being good enough for us, he's not good enough for a top league.
 
Probably best to loan him out in January tbh, can’t see him been any use to us.

In fairness, he may not be the one we require for forward play but you can’t mock his work rate, so wouldn’t surprise me if another coach wants him for a system

Because it's naff. Can he not express himself with quality delivery or beating a man?
 
He doesn’t come across as particularly bright, but I agree with others that he might be a useful player. I’m not a fan of his, but I hope it works out for him, as I’m really tired of players getting criticized for their transfer fees, something that isn’t their fault.

Transfer fee yes is not his fault nor are the wages. But it is not good for the rest of the group if team mate is on higher wages and not performing. The situation leads to loss in motivation within the group. He needs to move on
