Did you watch Martinez today? Maguire is a much stronger candidate on current form.
I doubt Garnacho could ever fulfill a WB role successfully, he seems the type to need an FB to back him up unless its some gung ho situation near the end of a match.

On one hand he says that playing with 3 defenders is the same as playing with 4, or 5 defenders depending ok the characterestics.
On another hand he is saying that the team has completely changed the system and this is a difficult moment, but that is his idea.
Is it different or isn't it?
I'd say it is. No matter the tactics but lining up 3 cb's and 2 full backs will always be different than lining up 2 cb's and 2 full backs except if you have defenders that can really play as midfielders (no pseudomidfielders).

I was making a joke about you complaining about name calling, shortly after calling someone a drama queen. Clearly, it fell flat.
Youre contracting yourself here. Youre saying confidence is huge but then we also need to be scoring to win games. Well when we condede first, due to individual errors, our confidence does go down even more. It is linked. Also with these smaller teams, its terrible to condede first cause they score and hit deep and try to hit us on the counter. If we reduce errors, we reducing conceding first and we are in games more often and we can try to score more often.
Neither dominated us. Both games were lost due to stupid individual mistakes.

I suppose it depends in your definition. Most teams beat us without needing to get out of second gear.
First, I want to say that I want Amorim to be a success at United more than I have for every other manager (bar Ole) since Ferguson. He looks to have a quality personality, he’s young and ambitious.
But I’m worried.
I can look past the fact that we might not play as well as we could with his formation, and we don’t have the right players to fit the system yet. I expect to see some players out of position, maybe playing the wrong balls etc some times as they need time to learn it and it was always going to be a bit bobbins from time to time.
The thing that worries me is that the players look like they couldn’t give a toss. They’re playing like they have a manager at the end of his tenure and are phoning it in. We’re bing out paced, out ran, out worked every single week. Looking past the talent level of our team - it’s the effort that’s severely lacking.
Surely a new manager coming in can inject some passion, pride and energy and get the players working? We’re not getting that.
Our squad isn’t good enough, I totally get that, but we’ve seen them be better than this. We’re getting 50% out of them and I’m gobsmacked that’s the case with a new, enthusiastic manager at the helm.
I just hope SJR isn’t as trigger happy firing managers as he was with the upper management.

The current setup is starving us of the ability to create chances, while we simultaneously look clueless at the back.
Same issue we saw with EtH, just wearing a different hat.
Amad needs to be one of the wingbacks, at the very least, but ideally we get another LWB in too.
I hope the club signed up to an overhaul when they hired him, because we are going to need it to make this work. massive gamble.

He was equally bad today. This whole Maguire redemption arc has become quite boring. Martinez has been poor but to say Maguire is some savior is bs. Today he produced another mediocre performance.

He's made it very plain that he has only one idea, one way of playing, he'll stick by that and tries to have the players believe in it.
Fair play, super risky though. Even Pep has had to change the way he plays to suit his players best.
There is no guarantee that his idea will work (in the Prem).
All that we can hope for is that we can avoid relegation and that someway somehow after some time, his idea will be conveyed and will work. Possibly having to sell and buy players in the upcoming transfer windows.

The joys of being Man United manager...the pressure is growing rapidly on Amorim.
But at some point you want it to dawn on the players that they are the issue, and just because they wear the shirt doesn't make them great players.
They start each game as if everything is fine. Giving simple goals away every game. But the manager plays 3 at the back and has disciplined Marcus Rashford so that's 2 excuses for them to pick from.

I said he needs to stop being a coward and play wingers rather than defenders at wing back.
I think there’s much braver choices that need to be made with team selection if he insists on his preferred formation…

I feel for him for inheriting this thrash squad but the loss today is on him I am afraid. I mean, even a Sunday league manager would know for a fact that starting a midfield two of immobile midfielders in Casemiro and Erickson is throwing the midfield battle away. Newcastle had an absolute field day in the middle of the park.
I saw a stat earlier that said we have scored 0 goals with Dalot or Mazroui playing at RWB but have scored 9 goals with Antony or Amad playing at RWB.
There is no greater teacher than brutal failure. Amorim is learning a valuable lesson in pragmatism right now, and it will be interesting to see how he responds. The line between patience as he beds in a new system, and utter despair from consecutive, repetitive defeats has probably been crossed. Every game he goes into now, persisting with an unfamiliar system, is a significant gamble on his future.
I appreciate his methodology in electing to make the change now, but he’s learning that games come so thick and fast through the middle of the PL season, that there is little meaningful training time and the defeats can rack up quickly. He may, and probably should, be forced to temporarily abandon his principles, play a more familiar formation and grind out some wins to buy himself some time.
I am all for the long term approach, but if you lose so many games that you start looking nervously at the drop, then you are forced to take a short term view. If he reverted to a simple 4-2-3-1, with sensible instructions, there’s enough quality and solidity to finish mid table and buy himself the summer to reshape the squad and drill them in pre-season.

He definitely will make tweaks to his system based on what he learns from this season. May not be major tweaks but for a guy who speaks so eloquently as he does, you would think he will adapt at some point/in some way.
But didn’t he believe in playing wingers at wing back, as opposed to defenders at sporting?
Amorim definitely needs to ditch playing 2 defenders as the wing-backs though. The OP has a point with that.

Nothing to do with the redemption arc, at the moment he atleast offers better protection aerially and can even be a threat in the opposition box. Other than some nice passes to forwards that can do feck all with it, what can Licha bring that Maguire isn't?

He will. He has said many times he is trying to keep it simple so players dont get confused by his ideas since there is no time to train. I am guessing pre-season if where he can make tweaks and train with different systems under the same formation to address needs of different teams he plays.
I'm sorry but how can you out so much emphasis on systems? It's football; these are footballers. Why do people love to overcomplicate this sport?
Pick the system/formation which best suits the best players and win football matches. It's simple.
Does he have wingers like he did at Sporting? Do the players here know his system? Do they work as hard? Can they play as a team? Can this team string 2 passes together without losing the ball? Our attack isnt as good as Sporting meaning we need to have the good attacking players we have higher up the pitch for them to do some damage.
