Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach | Thread locked during matches

First full week of training (without a game in the middle) and it made a difference. Lots of possession at Anfailed, some decent chances created and it's all good.

Bloke deserves more time to get his personnel in and playing the way he wants to.

Rashford is Ill, missed last 2 training sessions also.
 
Up to today, it’s been a difficult and disappointing start for Ruben.
It can only get better from now on.

Fans bedwetting after a few poor games where there have been some tough circumstances for the manager. Suspensions, unavailability, back to back games with no training, individual mistakes, sending offs.

This is why I believe in this guy. I believed we would have a decent share of the ball today, but ultimately lose by two or three goals. This performance was beyond my expectations. We went toe to toe with Liverpool and caused them some real problems. Really encouraging. Imagine Amorim with a full preseason.
 
He said in the post match interview that he was very happy with the fighting from the team today but at the same time it made him even more upset with the last 3 games because the team didn't show any fight in those games.
 
I really really wish he could be given just two new players that fit his system in January - I honestly think we could overcome the slump and go on a good run. As it is, I think we will still finish bottom half purely because overall the squad cannot be trusted in the biggest moments outside 2 or 3 of them
 
He clearly managed to get the players fired up again. Which is one of the hardest thing to do as a manager. We really need to do all we can to back him in Jan. We can still salvage something from the EL.

I just hope we can show this attitude against every opponent, not just City, Pool and Arsenal.
 
Very good again. We've been decent in most matches with high possession and creation/touches in the box put poor finishing and a series of silly mistakes have cost us big time. Even today we have gave a pen away and had more glaring chances missed but managed to bag a couple.

I see much to like about Amorim even in the defeats, the general play is very good where we can pass and maintain possession and not be cowardly. Hope we can keep building, coaching players and back him in the transfer market. We can become a top team with him I'm sure.

There is a lot to fix, the cliques and selfishness is often on display past two seasons. Today I see players understanding to work hard and not gesticulate and be calmer in criticism of each other so we can keep playing as unit together. We won't get far with moody players trying to do it on their own in matches, heads can drop too easily and end up with a battering.

Indeed. He's not a wizard, no manager is but some of our fans expect him to be, despite all evidence pointing to 70% of the players or more not being up to it, regardless of system or motivation. Even Pep this season has shown how mortal even the generational managers are, and that's been his team for years now. Imagine what it's been like for Ruben coming into this mess mid season.

That is exactly where I'm at, too.

Today was great, but it's no good for our players to just turn up to Liverpool and City. We've got to do the business in every game, or at least go out there with the intention to do that. If the players can perform like they did today, there's no excuse to not be doing that in the next game, too.

We need more offensive quality in the WB positions and not just against weaker teams. Dalot and Mazraoui dosen't have the right qulities for those positions. A pacey left footer with a decent cross on him would do wonders for us as a start.
 
The issue with this group of players is that they seem to know they’re not good enough to truly compete for the title, but they’re under constant pressure to act like they can because they play for Man United. It’s a tough situation—they’re expected to perform at the highest level but don’t quite have the ability to back it up.

To make matters worse, some of these players have been part of the club's most embarrassing moments, whether under Rangnick, Ten Hag, Mourinho, or Ole. And these aren’t fringe players; they’re the so-called “leaders” of the team, which makes it even harder to move forward.

There’s definitely a solid foundation to build on, but if we want to get back to being genuinely competitive, we need more quality—especially in the attack. Right now, it feels like we’re trying to fix big problems with small solutions.
 
These players need to stay fit.
We had our best line up out there today, with a couple of out of form players on the bench.
Any more injuries could scupper our fight back.
If we are going to bring in any new blood, in January, apart from where we need improving, depth of squad in all departments needs to be a consideration.

Better player selection helps too. Ugarte-Mainoo is miles better than Casemiro-Eriksen.

I think by now he knows what he has. He has seen the players in training and in games. He tried everyone. He knows who’ll help the team and who wouldn’t. It’s time for him figure out his starting 11 for the remainder of the season. Then go for the signings he wants in the summer.

They all did damage. Think it was mentioned in another thread, LVG did an incredible amount following Moyes too and we didn't recover. Not a single positive signing, and sold so much experience in one summer when it should have been more gradual. Our managerial recruitments have been as poor as our player recruitment, been saying it for ages.

Give it a rest. If he is ill he obviously cant play, if its a made up excuse the he has to do what his boss wants him to do. Nothing more nothing less.
 
An away win at the Etihad and a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

You just know if Ten Hag was still in charge we'd have lost both of those games.

"I think it is really clear. When we are focused, when we fight for every ball, when we suffer and we are tired when the game is finished, we are a good team.

"If we don't do that all the time then we are going to lose games. That is clear to everybody.

"We controlled very well the tempo of the game. Every time Liverpool had a chance, we controlled and had the ball for a moment. That makes a difference.

"You could see in the game, it was not like we are not suffering all the time because we controlled the ball, sometimes winning some fouls, controlling the transitions. It was a good game."

On maintaining this level of performance: "That is clear. Everybody thinks the same thing. We have to start someday to be consistent. Not in the way we play but in how we face the competition - so let's start today."
 
He’s fuming. Said he can’t speak to the players until he’s calmed down because he doesn’t understand why they can fight in games like this and against City but then not turn up in others

I believe.

If we can finally string a few results together he will get us going, I’m confident in that. Basically we need a home win to get over that mental hurdle and then we should keep improving.
 
That’s a punchy interview and he’s absolutely spot on.

If you don’t work hard it doesn’t matter what formation or tactics you play.
