He knows these "performances" have appeared over the years and then nothing afterwards, though I do feel that was a better actual performance than a lot of those - especially the ETH ones which were heavily scrappy counter-attack wins, felt there was a level of control in that today, so hopefully there's more to this that those.... but who knows with this team.

Honestly the Bournemouth, Wolves and Newcastle games feel completely at odds with what we've seen in the other 7(?) games under Amorim. Hopefully that was just a blip because everyone had flu or something. If this performance had come off the back of the City win we'd be absolutely giddy right now.

Agree 100% with what he said in the post match Sky interview. The players have let the coaches down in previous matches by the weak mentality and lethargy. Asking players to give their all in a 90 min game is not too much to ask from Amorim and I would love to believe they've turned a corner...but let's see what happens against Arse, Southampton, Brighton!

He's a breath of fresh air, this guy got me going when he was in charge of Braga and didn't even have a coaching licence and was beating the big 3 to win a cup in Portugal. Great communicator. But you know what the best thing about him is, that nearly no other coach has (for reasons I absolutely understand)?
No generic answers in pressers. Almost any coach in the world, except a few, it's just run of the mill answers. I get why they do that, to be honest. But, every time Ruben speaks, I feel like I'm learning things about how football is being played. He says what's in his heart, not his mind, he talks fecking football, and he doesn't give 2 craps if people will like what he says or not.
If he has bad things to say, he'll say them, and straight into our faces. It's clear the results in Sporting and Braga always made me think he could do well with us at United, but the way he comes across has always been the cherry on top for me. Exhuberates this aura he knows what he's doing every single time he speaks.
Being a great coach doesn't guarantee results, but I maintain my position he's great (and I wish my Benfica had spent the money on him 4 years ago...)

A factor I'm sure but it wasn't just that. Ugarte and Mainoo have played in the other games where we've had similar issues physically for example.

True and that mainly down to Mainoo not quite being fit I think.
But you can't put that performance in today with Casemiro, Eriksen and Zirkzee on the pitch. Doesn't matter how much they try, they can't physically do it.

Yeah. Loved the interview. Very specifically said it's not formation or tactics.
Isn’t that down to rotation as well and having unrealistic expectations of players like eriksen and Casemiro. Also expecting players to be something they aren’t or don’t have the ability to be like Zhikzee and Malacia.
Truth is that he has 12-13 players he can rely on to carry out what he wants and if he picks a team from anything other than those 12-13, it’s a risk

And considering we're so low down the table, that will serve us well for the rest of the season.I really don’t give a toss about his results yet. I can SEE what he is trying to do, and I can see something building on that pitch. Combined with his charisma and personality, I am fully behind the guy.
I like what he said in the presser, especially the part pointing out that everyone at this club just got so comfortable while earning a fortune. Really happy I don’t have to listen to a coach referring to his players as Rashy , Lingzy or whatever, changing the culture is crucial.
Happy to see him annoyed. We've seen this group pull it out vs Liverpool and City in big games in the last year alone. For them to have that ability and then go MIA all too regularly in the "lesser" matches is why we are all so frustrated. The lack of mentality, lack of desire to win all the time is what has held us back for so long. Hopefully we're seeing who will and will not show up in every match.
The difference is, all our other managers have been so insecure and desperate to justify the job they were doing - they would have come out and talked about that performance as if we'd just won the Champions League.
Real winners and top performers don't feel the need to constantly defend themselves and justify their position.
Very very encouraging ! The club and the supporters need to back him as much as possible. Things could still remain ugly for some time, these first few weeks were very dense as he had to: (i) get to know his new players, (ii) instill a new tactical setup in a limited amount of training sessions, and more importantly (iii) diagnose an issue that looks like it involves more than just a question of player's abilities and setup. But he clearly has a plan and I am confident he will turn things around.
