This post is a reminder of the fifa playing modern football fan, where they think by changing formation, play pacey players everything will be rosey.. This isn't the real world.. tactics, philosophies, styles are fundamentals that most top managers these days stick by.. Amorim was hired for having just that.. A system that he knows and has always coached and has worked for him, so it would be bonkers to change that now because the poor players can't play it. Those who can't, will be coached to learn it, and if there is no hope, then they'll be replaced. In this system, the wingbacks are specialists and are the most important part of the team, and until he gets them, it's going to be tough. He's the right person for the job, and will turn it around. It's not his fault that the club had a terrible terrible manager and a board just as bad during the last few years, but one has to admire RA for believing that he will turn it around.
Diabolical they'd bring him and not bring in a single new player. With that said, I wouldn't get too attached that obviously tells me they expect significant improvement out of the current crop and I'm not sure you're going to see that. It really can go either way.

Agree with most of what you've said, but it's not diabolical that we've not brought any new players in given he started with the season already underway.
We do need new players but it's usually hard to buy players of any great quality in January. It wouldn't be worth wasting what little money we can spend on players that might only improve the team marginally, if at all. It'll be sore but I expect we'll just have to wait that part of it out until the end of the season.

The guy has barely been through the door and is trying to essentially change the whole approach to our game, having joined mid-season, while playing twice a week with arguably our worst squad in recent history.
And yet a bunch of posters are in full knives out mode.
Liverpool didn't hire Amorim because of his system. Liverpool realise that changing system is a big thing. Of course it is easier to manage Liverpool than United. I have no clue if Amorim or Slot is the better coach.
To be fair Liverpool had a good squad and system, we have neither in comparison.

We're not being dominated by every single team we play. We went to the Etihad, Anfield and the Emirates (specifically the league game moreso than the FA Cup), the 3 toughest away grounds in English football, and pretty much matched them for possession and limited their opportunities from open play.
We hadn't done that in years, we're used to surviving on 20% possession there, having 10 men behind the ball and hoping to nick a goal on the counter. Hell we hadn't even scored a goal in Anfield in 6 years and this time we scored 2 and could have had a few more!
Nobody was complaining about the formation after those games! We've seen it can work if it's done right, but we need better quality players to do it consistently, rather than one off games.

I am so conflicted, we've had some incredible moments like arsenal and city away but his comments after the Brighton game were a bit pathetic. To come out and throw the whole team under the bus is mental and it very rarely works.
Hope he does well here but his reaction to that defeat has kind of put me off him. I've liked his honesty but you just can't say stuff like that when you are already struggling.

In theory it's not that different in that ETH always had us build with a 3. If we can revert back to Maz as the RCB it's almost a replica in the build up phase. We've looked out poorest when it's a more natural CB there and they freeze
I think the bigger issue is upfront where we've got Amad as the threat and everyone else is in horrendous form. If you can't peg teams back then ultimately the opponent will threaten.
Now the one area the new coaching staff do deserve criticism is set pieces it's just unacceptable and nothing to do with personnel in my opinion.

As for Amorim vs Slot, I am not comparing them. Clearly both of them are very good coaches. Just saying, it was also a "step-up" for Slot to come from Netherlands to EPL, but that didn't stop him being on course for winning the league. Amorim's "step up" is the least of our problems
Be interesting what Arse Slot does next season when he loses Salah, TAA and possibly VDV.

The players are not good enough and never were. The entire first 11 with ETH were basically his players, save Bruno. The difference is that ETH had a full preseason, 600m in transfers and a transfer veto. Amorim is stuck with ETH’s players, no preseason, and a big fat zero in transfer spend.
The Caf loves to bash Ole, and call him the “PE teacher” and criticize his counterattacking football, but the fact remains, he was the best of the post SAF managers. No, he never won a trophy, but he got the best out of Rashford, Martial, Bruno, Mason, Maguire, Shaw, McFred, hell, Jesse fecking Lingard.
Sad that I look back on those days a bit wistfully. Given the state of the club and how dire our circumstances are, we should look back upon his time a bit more favorably…

It's a very small group and movement. I've seen a lot of Glazer , Woodward sympathizers over the years that would rather harp on about Jose, Ragnick, even Ole instead. Most of all welcoming in Ratcliff because English.

I'm totally open to give Amorim time. In games, I can see many occasions where I thought "if only we get better striker/AM/CB/Gk" there, we could score plenty of goals or conceded a lot less. The system work, but it just plain obvious that the players aren't suitable.

He won't last that long. And don't forget, you assuming he will not lose the dressing room until then. Inability to hold on with some respectable performances at home will be his undoing. Make the best out of it until reinforcements arrive. He is so hung up on his the one tactic. So, say even he successfully implemented his style, you all better be praying no team finds a way around to beat it. God forbid, he needs to leave football for good then.
SAF dominated the League, playing 4-4-2 for decades. Were teams just plain stupid at that time, couldn't find a way around to beat it.
The part I don't understand is why he keeps saying they have only 5 or 6 or 7 training session together. It has been a few months already and they should be able to squeeze in more training session between the games?
He needs to improve fast. PL is brutal there is no time for him to implement his system gradually. Everything is at F1 pace in PL.

We have been in this perpetual cycle of every new manager that come in need entire starting 11 players to play their so called style of play. Is it only us? because all other PL team don't seem to have this problem.
Most successful managers come in and replace a significant portion of the starting eleven, yes.
Since he's been here we've been playing 2 games a week, pretty much every week, add to that recovery after every game where you don't usually train, plus travelling the day before away games has meant very few training sessions. New managers almost always have a transfer window and a preseason to train the squad and prepare them for the season.
Hope those "worst United team in history" comments don't backfire. He's been speaking well in press conferences but that was unnecessary.
When you're playing every three or four days there isn't time for training tactics.

He has a free pass this season. Just don't get relegated and identify players to buy and sell in the summer. Meanwhile, see which youth team players can make the step up and test them.
