US Politics

Absolutely bonkers and totally not surprising. The GOP in this state is a corrupt as it comes.

They are essentially changing the election laws AFTER THE ELECTION to throw out just enough votes to change the outcome.

Edit: Oh yeah, institutions holding up just great.

Consequence of electing judges that are party affiliated, I assume this will go to the State Supreme Court and probably the National one after that

What the actual feck? This is a new low.

But the Dems cheated in Wisconsin so it's all good.

It's unbelievable that any time a Dem wins anywhere now it's considered they cheated, yet when the Republicans win it's a triumph for fair and honest elections. It's gone so far beyond any sane and rational thinking and yet again it's social media that is to blame for helping spread all this bullshit. Again, I reiterate I really don't know how the US can come back from this.

I mean, if the dem governor in the state, just told the supreme court in the state to feck off, and forcefully install the rightful judge, like republicans definitely would, if it was reversed.

It’s because Republicans are contrarians, plain and simple.

Likely not in this case. Each state has their own rules for installing and appointing state judges, and in NC it has nothing to do with the Gov.

Gov. Greg Abbott sets Nov. 4 special election to fill U.S. Rep. Sylvester Turner’s seat

Gov. Greg Abbott has set Nov. 4 as the special election date to fill the congressional seat left vacant by former Rep. Sylvester Turner’s death — a timeline that leaves the solidly Democratic seat vacant for at least seven months as Republicans look to drive President Donald Trump’s agenda through a narrowly divided Congress.

Turner, a former Houston mayor and Democratic state lawmaker, died March 5, two months into his first term representing Texas’ 18th Congressional District. State law does not specify a deadline for the governor to order a special election.

With Turner’s seat vacant, the House breaks down to 220 Republicans and 213 Democrats, allowing the GOP to win a majority on the floor even with three defections from their ranks. If Turner’s seat were filled, likely by a Democrat, the GOP could withstand only two defections.
Holding the 4th largest city in the country without any representation in Congress for most of the year so the GOP can hold on to their voting margins.

So someone tried to assassinate/murder Shapiro? On Passover no less. State of this country....

Has anyone in the Trump administration said anything about this? Condemned it? Offered support to Shapiro?

Trump's only comment was to announce that the assailant wasn't a fan of Trump. I doubt he would reach out to Shapiro unless he felt there was something in it for him.

Texas creating its own version of DOGE, it looks like.

How many decades have the republicans controlled the state again?
Guess they will find someone else to blame for said "waste and fraud", and nobody will notice the contradictions.

They will find lots of "corruption" and it will all magically be located in Houston.

Last Dem governor in Texas was Ann Richards in the early to mid 90's, and have been mostly Dem in the state's history*. She wasn't very good but neither have been the successors since, although Junior was an alright governor there. The last two have been disasters but it doesn't matter as >51% will vote red no matter what.

*Those are basically the old southern Dems/dixie-crats.

This could go in the invasion thread and/or the Trump thread but perhaps better fit in this thread. Maybe a glimpse of how dis- and misinformation fuel young minds.

The son of a senior Central Intelligence Agency official died last year “while fighting in the conflict in Ukraine,” a CIA spokesperson said Friday.

The spokesperson confirmed the death of Michael Gloss — who is the son of Juliane Gallina, the CIA’s deputy director for digital innovation — after a Russian news site reported that the 21-year-old American had signed up to serve with Russia’s forces.
----
In social media posts last year, Michael Gloss shared a photo of himself smiling in Moscow’s Red Square and expressed sympathy for Russia’s war effort against what he called “the Ukraine Proxy war.”

He wrote that news coverage of the war, which he called “western propaganda,” was concealing the reality of a conflict in which an allegedly corrupt Ukrainian military was no match for Russian troops.

About damn time. The whole thing was an abomination and the fact that the NC State Courts actually played along is frightening. It would be bad if he had tried this state wide, but the fact they tried to only apply their sick ass logic to the 4 Dem heavy counties is a blatant attempt to steal an election. The fact it took a Trump(!!!) appointed Federal judge to slap this down shows how broken things are here in NC.

Hopefully, his stock is sinking and will cancel any slim chance he still held at a 2028/beyond POTUS run. And quite interesting to learn that his spouse was seeking a governor run, obviously to keep Meatball Ron in the controls.

Inside DeSantis' "made-for-TV" fall in Florida

I hope not. I'd love for DeSantis to run in 2028. He has nowhere near the base appeal as Trump and would easily lose some of Trump's electoral coalition.

VP's usually win anyway, yes?

Can't really imagine Vance not getting the nomination.

Historically, usually, but things are all up in the air now. It would appear to be Vance at the moment though. But who knows with MAGA, they might all rally around Tucker Carlson or something.
