Ruben Amorim - Manchester United Head Coach | Thread locked during matches

Exactly. I mean I would take all our #2 GKs over the last 20 years to the current lot. We have the worst recruitment team in all of Europe and I could do a better job of it based on just FIFA ratings.
This is truly one of the biggest problems, after the Glazer ownership - whoclet our scouting team fester for years.

Only one who can create them too thats the problem
Well true. I’d also have to gamble on Mount playing 90 & Mainoo finding form. I’d fancy them two to create something, but I wouldn’t trust anyone but Fernandes to finish a big chance.

If we carry on like this next season I'll be hoping he's sacked by Christmas. He's had the luxury of being given a free pass this season, despite his record so far being atrocious. Very few managers at a club as big as United would get such a luxury. He simply has to turn it around next season, no excuses
Christmas? October.

Let’s give him the window to buy some more Dorgu’s and then realise we have a squad for a formation that doesn’t suit the league.
Great guy and comes across well but he’s so out of his depth - one dimensional and not good enough with that. Why is everyone giving him so much slack when we have gone in reverse since the minute he arrived.
This is a poor result, regardless of how much people are wanking Newcastle off. We could have won today if we set up better.

Team is awful, levels below the worst under anyone else.

I'm not calling for him to go I will judge him next year around this time.

Has to bring in players who fit his system at least 2 at each position so we can see if it will work. So much work to be done I can't see us challenging for PL / CL until 2030.

Why are people insisting this game doesn't matter? Just 2-3 wins more and we could finish 8th-10th instead of 15th ffs.

Because the squad Ten Hag left is horrific
It’s not just the squad though. You don’t have to have Inesta/Xavi in midfield just to be competent. The reason we are so bad is our midfield gets completely overrun every game and that is primarily due to the set up. When most teams play a midfield 3, we try to counter it with just 2 players in the middle - both of whom are slow and ponderous. If the manager cannot see that it is not working unless you have a prime Kante as one of the midfielders then the manager is largely inept and out of his depth.

Yes the goals all came from defensive blunders but we have been pretty much under the hammer for most of the game and his set up is a large cause for it.

Playing Lindelof and Eriksen is inexplicable.

I am a big fan of him and think the system has real promise with right players, but today was awful. He needs to take responsibility for it and do better.

The only reason this game doesn’t matter is that we have lost all the time since he got the job. Not sure how that’s a point in his defence.

Does this game affect our league position in any meaningful way ?
I don't get your POV at all.

So lets just play shit in the league because it doesn't matter? Or should we try and keep improving for the "Amorim way"

League position doesn't mean anything now, but ffs show us something to get excited about next season.

The league campaign is finished, we have been riddled with injuries and we have our most important game of the season midweek.

This team, without any proper quality, will be going down next season!

The modern day Leeds United in waiting

I like Amorim, I think he has the character to do the job and he has shown an ability to turn around big clubs and win things so for me he still has plenty of time (even if next year isn't great).

The one question I would have for people who watched Sporting more was how they built from the back into midfield and forwards. I know we lack quality up the field but so much of our games seems to be the keeper and 3 centre backs passing between themselves with no options to progress from there and eventually getting pressed or losing patience and just clipping it, often aimlessly, towards the number 9. I'd just like to understand how he remedied that issue at Sporting because it's not good football and it's not good to watch.
We lack quality in a lot of areas as Amorim said not just the final third. Our midfielders are not doing their jobs in the build up, often making the easy pass or looking for Bruno to bail them out. The CBs also need to take more responsibility as we have seen at times from Yoro and Martinez. The out ball on the press is supposed to be finding the opposite WB over the top rather than the CF (we have seen it at times, but again a lot of the players just don’t want to take responsibility and instead play it to the nearest team mate and hope they get bailed out)

Competition in Portugal.
Quality of opponents ettc.

EPL is different animal. Arsenal blows Madrid away in between Draws in EPL games.

The POV should be a long term one - as in making the CL, having a full summer transfer window and summer tour to get all the players prepared for next year.

This is a unique week where we are playing the form side in the country away from home and have our most important game of the season midweek.

Has to win Europa or he’s out for me. There’s no excuse for writing off games, especially when we can’t compete still finish top half. He simply hasn’t been good enough, even Moyes has Everton playing the semblance of a team, we seem to have very little confidence every game we play.

I'm in the same boat. He talks well and we have to appreciate the limitations in the squad and difficult circumstances he's come into but the performances and results have been worse than anyone could have imagined. The fact some fans are okay with this because of the "poor squad" just shows how standard have fallen even further. This isn't an 8th or 9th placed finish, we're fecking 14th where a top 10 finish is fanciful.

Is everyone else above us just going to stop playing or something? We'll be nowhere near top 10.

This sort of logic needs to stop.

We need to stop signing sick notes like Mount, chronically unfit players like Zirkzee, or mentally weak clowns like Onana. That's not manager or philosophy dependent.
He will leave a squad devoid of wingers, it’s not outragerous to assume his replacement would have liked a winger or two.

Yeah, you are right but performance still matters for the long term.

We have spent over a decade watching rubbish under various coaches, convincing ourselves that 'when he gets his players' we will start playing like it's 1999.

I would love to be proven wrong but I think the likeliest outcome from here is the same thing that's happened before: more players come in, still doesn't work, manager gets sacked, and we change direction again.

I see virtually no world in which we play 343 after Amorim and I reckon he's only getting this rope because Berrada picked him and nobody wants to admit Ashworth's warnings were right.

Honestly, Ineos has decided to take the long route. They reckon that buying stars will not work so they decided to buy unknown players for 10-30 million pounds. United will sucks for at least 3 years before we start to get better. It is better to sell Bruno this summer for the highest bidder. Sell Bruno, Rashford, Sancho, Antony, Casemiro, Maguire, Casemiro, Dalot, Onana, Hoijund, Garnacho. It is time to move them to the highest bidder.

Finally gets some decent forward play, then Zirkzee get injured.
Correctly drops starting goalkeeper, then the back-up gifts a goal.
Most reliable player, Mazraoui, also gifts a goal out of nothing.

He is clearly struggling, but there are also things out of his control.

It's not the manager signing the players anymore. He's just calling the formation and coaching. Dorgu and anyone else is on Vivel and Wilcox. I like the players we've been signing but it's clear we are still lacking in quality and depth
