Yeah but Arsenal are also in the CL and in a far better position to compete in it and the league than us. The only reason he’d logically choose us, even if we can offer CL via EL, is his relationship with Amorim. But I reckon he’d still rather choose the team better equipped to compete. Hopefully I’m wrong.
Amorim's a factor. The system we play would probably be one as he's thrived in such before. We may offer more money? Who knows.

But yeah, it would not be hard to understand if he rejected coming here and went there.

Surprised how many people want him, if you go through his goals this season you wouldn't be able to name a single player in the teams he plays against - the Portuguese league is so bad. I don't think he's scored against Porto/Benfica (could be wrong), 12 of his league goals are penalties and his npXG is 20ish, large overperformance. His compilations are hilarious too, the defenders look sunday league level they go flying at every opportunity. His hattrick v Man City is so overrated too, 2 penalties and the other goal fair enough but was up against a random kid called Simpson-Pusey (where he still lost his duels). Biomechanics look average, takes ages to get his shot off I just don't see him replicating half his goals for a big PL team

If we manage to pull this off, it will be amazing. Yoro levels of negotiations. However, I expect this to go the way of Haaland.

Is there anyone credible saying the deal is on? I don’t doubt we want him, but I’ve seen some saying he’s agreed to come.

More hope than anything else. The only way we'll even get close to his signature is by winning the Europa League.

Arsenal and Liverpool are most likely in for ST aswell and will be a more attractive option right now

Yeah if only he felt the same about Champions League as Cunha, mind you he's played in it so has every right to only want a club who will be next season

Cannot find anything credible linking him to us just yet and I guess that would all be very much dependent on us winning the Europa league as it seems clear that without CL football next season he won't be interested and we cannot afford him. It could progress quickly if we do secure that CL spot if he is still available though. Arsenal are in pole position and have been for some time and their new Sporting Director is said to be a huge fan however the longer it takes for them to get this done the more it suggests that maybe his signing is not unanimous and it opens the door for him to go elsewhere. There has been a suggestion that Arteta is not entirely sold and would rather go for Sesko, if that is true then it could play into our hands but we will need to hold up our end of the deal first by getting CL football.

So, you are telling me there's a chance?

This is the only striker I care about this summer.

There isn't, and we've been through enough of these for us to not fall for this nonsense.

No. Giving this up means accepting the alternatives, which are all terrible. Have to win the Europa League and go all in on this. It is essential.

The tweet literally said there’s been no green light from Gyokeres so not sure why everyone got all excited for

I am a bit surprised that so many on here are so deflated regarding our attractiveness.
We`ve had a rough season amidst change in the club, but we are still Manchester United, still one of the biggest and most popular clubs in the world. And as such we are not going to stay at this seasons level for long.

Baffling isn’t it. United’s history of trophies aside, it remains the most popular a premier league club in the world.

The ability to sell this project will only go so far he's got to want to come here. We've missed out on a few top players in the recent years who would have been transformative. He'd be many fans number one pick. History with Amorim and we have a good relationship with Sporting. He'd be the RvN, RVP of this next era if er got him in, IMO. I'm hoping seeing the scousers equal the 20 has lit a fire under the hierarchs but that may be wishful thinking.

Yeah I wish it would light a fire that saw us sign Garcia, athletic CM, Cunha and Gyokeres, would say wing back too but that's looking like an internal solution

Don't think there's any chance of him coming here. We can't afford, and he'll surely be wanting a team with higher aspirations. However, if there's any chance at all, we should take it.

Him and Cunha would make a huge difference to our attack. I know people seem to think that he won't translate to the PL, but looking at the way he moves and plays, I'm pretty sure that if he goes to (for example) Arsenal and we get Delap, the difference will be very obvious.

Have said from early on that if players are highly sought after then we will not attract them if we decide it's OK to write the season off and languish near the relegation zone, but the prevailing opinion here seemed to be that the appeal of playing under Amorim would trump all that.

Feels a bit like the penny has dropped that the Sporting connection doesn't mean he'll be desperate to come here.

That’s not really saying much though is it. We don’t know where Gyokeres is going at the moment.

Can we really take another risk at signing someone expensive? What happens if he flops? The only way i see us getting out of this mess is that we sign cheaper players who bring a ton of value to the squad. If they fail, we dont incur heavy losses and move them on.

I’m no big fan of Delap but he definitely fits that low risk high (potential) reward signing

You mean there’s a chance of relegation next season :p

We’d have to win the Europa and even then probably would need Arsenal to be prioritising someone else like Sesko and Chelsea with Delap.

Do you know his release clause ?

We don't. But it stil feels like a relief to see people acknowledge that it is now far from a foregone conclusion that top players will choose us.

Felt a bit like I was losing my mind a while back watching people simultaneously (a) arguing for some kind of purifying pain where we would ignore all pragmatic considerations and happily lose every week in exchange for purging the squad of all the players they were fed up, and (b) thinking we could then spend the summer replacing them by stocking up on top talent from around Europe.

I suspect it turns out that top players aren't keen to entrust their career to a club that just writes off whole seasons, plays borderline unwatchable football and finishes near the foot of the table.

I understand the risk aspect. But the man just simple scores goals. Its our biggest problem. Cunha will increase the chances made and chip in with a few himself, but this guy is ruthless in front of goal. Something we have lacked since RVP.

I think this will be the case of how we approach transfers this summer (especially if we do not get CL football)

Cunha will be our biggest transfer this summer and the rest, such as Delap, will be players that we can shift on without a huge loss if they work out. If they do work out, then great.

Delap has a 30m clause? Not sure about Gyokeres release clause

Based on reports it’s only about another 20-25m more. Ornstein has already said funds are already available for Cunha and Delap without the need for sales, so another 20-25m should be hard to come up with for a player who is light years better than Delap.
