Our bigger problem in that respect is that nobody we have gets the ball into those ball carriers quickly in space behind the opposition midfielders. It's much easier to carry the ball or hold the ball up when the opposition midfield is playing running back to their own goal rather than set in front of the defence.

It's one of my worries for Cunha in our team, we're slow out of the back and playing through the press. He's not going to get many of those chances to carry directly against the back line where he's so dangerous at United. He's not going to be able to carry it back to front on his own (and you don't want him coming that deep to do it, really)
I don't think this is an issue at all.

Garnacho is a more limited version of the same kind of player and rarely has trouble at least getting the ball in dangerous positions several times per game.

I can confirm playing Cunha as a number 9 would be a disaster, whenever he’s played there for us he’s been largely anonymous, it just doesn’t work.

Garnacho‘s ball carrying has improved a lot, Cunha would add a lot more of it which is great for us. If Garnacho can do it, Cunha certainly can.

Just seen the links to Mbueno, would him and Cunha as 10s work? Potentially it’d be an absolute nightmare for defenders with that strength, pace and trickery.

Cunha and Mbuemo we dont need both.

Would prefer Cunha myself.

Striker has to be other priority then midfielder. Also Rwb if amad isnt there.

It's reached the point where I'm excited to see him join. He's got the attributes, the confidence and the clutchness to make it here.
We have to play him as a 10 though - so Amorim better stick around, otherwise we'll be looking for another manager who plays him in that wide 10 role.

Definitely a LWB for me. I'm still not convinced we have anyone competent there.

Not that I want him to leave but I’m very surprised Ait Noiri hasn’t been mentioned on here more, him and Cunha are superb together, Ait Nouri is superb as a LWB

I'd certainly want him or Fernandez at a discount price for left wingback.

If the money was there I would definitely go for both, what’s the point in half arsing it? Both among the best players in the league. I could stomach Delap as CF then.

Yeah I would begrudgingly accept it then too as both those other players have notched 18 and 15 league goals respectively.

Exactly. But if (big IF) we won the EL, I would hope the club tried for those two AND Gyokeres. We should be as ambitious as possible.

We absolutely need a starting CM too, without that we can have any attacking players we want but starting Ugarte or Casemiro or Mainoo there will not give us the base we need for the system.

That’s what I was thinking. Am I way off in thinking we could get all three for around 150 million, much of which could be offset by the sales of Rashford, Antony, and Garnacho (and possibly Sancho)?

Agree. We probably need 5 or 6 players to be honest. Even with a EL win, the money probably isn’t there for what’s needed.

It should be doable with good sales alright, and the loanees are doing well.
I would keep Garnacho though, he would get plenty of games in the cups or as an impact sub, great potential.

Ideally someone who wouldn't cost the earth, hopefully this guy can add a couple more league goals to his tally before the season finishes.

Using Cunha as a 9 would be idiotic, it would surely nullify a lot of his best attributes.
Depends on what we mean by 9. Gyokeres isn't really a true "9" playing with his back to goal and so Cunha could be a fantastic foil for Gyokeres through the middle, enabling Gyokeres to attack the areas he's most effective in - the channels. If we don't get a powerful runner that goes beyond him, it would be an absolute disaster to play him there.

Fair bit in our local press that he will have talks with Newcastle and Arsenal in the next few days, hopefully he will still choose United

Bit worrying to hear, hopefully this is just a hurry up like you often see with many transfers

With all due respect, I would take a comment like this from a newbie with a huge gain of salt. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s to wind us up a little bit.

How odd. This was supposed to be practically done.

Looks like this Glazer era strategy of leaking the transfer at a very early stage and then making it a saga that plays out for months has not changed even after the Ineos takeover.

It seems to be coming from these guys.

Id still think he'd end up at Utd. That left 10 and system is perfect for him, it's a bit more ill fitting at Arsenal or Newcastle.

True, however we still have to get it over the line

I can assure you I’m not here to wind anyone up, I’m wolves through and through but have no animosity at all to united, if we don’t win then I always look for uniteds result.

I’m only saying what is in the local press by us, we have journos linked to the club and they’re normally not far off, although to be fair they’ve not said a lot about Cunha yet

he fits the role perfectly for what we want, he's extremely technical, athletic and can score goals

They seem like agent led rumors but let's see. Arsenal might actually jump in after their CL failures but it's hard to see them spending 62.5M on Cunha, another 70-80M on Ekitike. The release clause is a bit of an overpay for a player of his ability. I feel like anyone with an influential data department will say no, don't pay that, there's better bargains in the market.

It makes some sense for us -- desperate for attackers, need to improve quickly, PL proven, exact same position so barely any tactical shift to go through. The low risk element of it is worth a 10-15M of overpay.
