Has he forgot or does he not care what it takes for a supporter to get to a midweek match? leave aside the ticket price just the logistics of getting to a midweek match is a nightmare and what for to see a team that's not even our reserve team and a miserable journey home

SAF your a disappointment and a disgrace no excuses this early in the season for not playing rooney or ronaldo or tevez there all young lads for christ sake.

Evans and Simpson helped Sunderland to reach the Premiership.
Anderson and Nani played in the champions league and were both class players.
Pique was superb for Zaragoza last year.
PIG had a few decent performances for WBA.
Dong is world class according to some on here.

It was the players that let the fans down not SAF.

i understand the frustration especially if you went tonight, barring the cost its alot to expect supporters to travel in their thousands from outside or inside manchester.

But you know the score when you go to a game like this one, its going to be second string.

I'd have played rooney or saha or both to give some match sharpness. Carrick could have done with some more time as could Tevez in my opinion.

But the season is long and the disappointment of a night like this will fade as we move onward

Its not SAFs fault that the board have decided to enforce the ACS.

I think you would be thinking differently it one of Rooney, Ronaldo or Tevezgot injured tonight as we have Birmingham, Roma and Wigan over the next 10 days.

It may have been a shit performance, but those youngsters must have learnt from the experience.

It's just another case of SAF underestimating the weaker opponents, nothing new.

The team had about 6 internationals (PIG, Evans, OShea, Nani, Anderson and Dong) + it was further strengthened by another 2 internationals (Wes and Carrick). They should have cruised throughout a win easily.

Unfortunately it wasnt the case and Im sure that SAF will be dissapointed about the result as much as we did. I wonder when SAF will finally realise that Dong is division 2 standard.

It's the Carling Cup, people who went must have known that we were gonna spare the first team players. It's always been like that this early on.

Its not the result, even if we had won I would still have been disappointed at the team he put out. For most of us these midweek matches are the only opportunity to get tickets and watch our "stars".

It was a crap idea to put out eleven virtual reserves - what's the point?

I'm all for giving kids etc a chance - but all at once??

I think people should get a grip.

How the hell are you going to know whether they can hold their own without having outings like that?

How demoralising is it for the kids to get beaten?

How much experience are they going to get if they go out in the first round? Surely you have a bit of a mix, give them a decent chance of going through, so that they get more experience in the next round, and so on.

Otherwise, where do they get their experience now?

Most of them will have to be loaned out or languish in the reserves.

I don't necessarily go along with the thread title - but this has happened time and time again, and nine times out of ten, it hasn't worked. So either Fergie isn't learning, he's stubborn, or he has too much faith in some players, who might not be good enough.

Maybe.

But it still makes more sense to me to put inexperienced players in alongside experienced ones - that way they learn, and don't risk being demoralised by being part of a rubbish performance.

And they live to fight another day and therefore get more experience.

Actually, it's not being beaten that's the problem - they should learn to deal with that as part of the game.

It's the performance that will demoralise them.

Sorry, but there was too much expectation there.

I can slam a revolving door. USA
I blame SAF for selecting a complete reserve, atleast play 5 senior players and 6 reserve players, so that the reserve team player get some confidence that the big guns will take them throught. SAF has always treated cup as a joke , and we paid the price today.

Let Rooney be Rooney
What tends to frustrate me with Fergie is his picking unbalanced sides in these games, going by todays 11 theres going to be some players out of position, it doesn't work with the first team what makes him think it will with a bunch of kids and reserves?

feck em...help them grow up.

and all those times its happened in the past...how many of those players have came through and how many have gone away? how many of those whove left have developed into players who were good enough to get into our first team.

Au contraire, he's saved us all another 3 or 4 of these pointless trips. Fair play on Monsieur Rouge Nez. :D

The only draw back of being out of it is the youngsters will get less games.
And by the sounds of it they were pretty poor

Exactly.

So what was the point?

If experience is important, then surely it would have been more beneficial to get through.

If getting through wasn't important, why bother to take part in the first place.

To we have that option?
I don't know - maybe not.

But you can't throw eleven players together and expect them to be a team. It doesn't always work with top class players, let alone kids and reserves.

I know that other trophies are more important than the Carling Cup, but we should have pride whenever we take the field, in whatever competition.

In the berbatov thread trying to push the deal thr
Point 1) Everyone and their dog knows what to expect from us these days...you dont have a leg to stand on complaining about the side.

point 2) If fergie actually wants the youngsters to gain anything from it playing them in a more structured side with some regulars would help...but hey... i guess he'd argue arsenal dont.
