dos Santos to Spurs - Barca official announcement

Apparently hands have been shaken by dos Santos, Barca and Spurs - four year deal ... Graham Hunter on some Irish radio show.

I'm starting to believe it's going to happen.

Potentially a good signing for you. Big things were expected of him at Barca and its a little surprising they're letting him go. Ramos will be good for him.

Having said that I'm not sure where he'll fit in. off the striker or wide left?

Also read you're after Capel from Sevilla. Looks a decent player in la Liga but I'm not sure he'll cut it in the PL.

Wasn't this one meant to be like the next wonder kid?

Or was relying on some caf comments a bad idea?

Any idea what the fee is? I have heard as high as 12 million pounds. Chelsea were saying a while back that he was definitely going there on a free.

If Ramos doesn't break top 4 (probably in an unrealistic timeframe like next 2 years) he gets the tin tack and Lewis tells Levy to sell out
Liverpool should be worried - Ramos is buiding a good team.

Were the impossible to happen and Chelsea shell out some astronomical figure for Torres then they would be well and truly sunk.

I find funny people wanking over this overrated kid.

He is not good enough. If Spurs get him he wont be their saviour anyway.

What Spurs need to do is try to keep Berbatov if not they are gonna be seriously fcked no matter how many additions arrive.

he plays wide right for barca and didn't really set la liga alight this season, but he's a talented kid and Messi playing in teh same position doesn't help. Bojan is thought of more highly than Giovanni as well, although the Spanish kid plays more centrally and is a natural goal-scorer...

will be interesting to see where he plays because Lennon already plays wide right for the spurs, so perhaps he'd play off of a striker (bent/keane) which would make sense with berbatov likely to leave...

Scored a quality hat trick on the last day of the season against Murcia

Struggled all season up to that though. Has potential but not sure what to make of him. Wasn't he on the same level as Bojan a year or two ago in terms of where Barca rated them?

No idea of price either then?

Not really seen much of him but didn't look that impressive when I did see him play, heard he had a very good game though when he scored that hatrick that convinced many he might be better than those previous performances.

It is quite telling that Barca are letting one of their youth players go like this, if a team had come in for the likes of Iniesta, Messi and Bojan they would of told them exactly where to shove their money but seem to letting him go a bit easily albeit they are getting a good fee for him. It is important for him to play and at Spurs he will get that platform to play week in week out, if he does hit his potential he can then move on to a bigger club.

I'd be impressed with Barca if they got 12 million. Rossi had proved more, with his loan spell in Italy, but was sold for about 7 million.

Are you Guys changing your whole team Glaston ?
New starting GK I'd guess, perhaps with Robinson remaining as competition/cover or perhaps not.

Same first-choice back-four but with Dunne as additional cover for King.

New DM (no idea who - I'd love Veloso, but that seems out of our reach) - could even be Jenas switching to that role, since he's occasionally played there before and done well.

It's hard to guess the rest right now, but if Berbatov stays then maybe:

----------- New DM (or Jenas ?) -------
Lennon --- Modric - dos Santos
--------- Keane - Berbatov

Or perhaps 4 -3 -3 (switchable flexibly to a 5-man midfield) with Lennon and dos Santos either side of Berbatov and a main midfield 3 of Jenas - Modric - Zokora.

If Berbatov is sold and/or we sign Capel then feck knows - all the possible permutations are doing my head in right now.

That's true. You would have thought that they learned something with Pique and especialy Fabregas. In this case they even have him under contract, maybe he's just not that good.

GlastonSpur: Are you getting rid of Huddlestone? I always liked that giant for some odd reason.

What about Zakora in that holding role.

Heaven on earth
good for the premier league, Spurs for 4th spot next year hopefully :D

Spurs still need two decent defensive midfielders and one defender imo.

They couldn't contract Pique or Fabregas under Spanish law that's why we were able to nick them. The only reason they're letting dS go is they don't rate him

You think they would of sold us Fabregas? You are having a laugh, we nicked Fabregas off them just like you did for Pique. They were furious when we got him and were threatening legal action and reporting us to FIFA.

Thing with those two is we got them before they are allowed to sign contracts meaning Barca couldn't tie them in, same thing with both Lupoli and Rossi.

I think he is a decent player but I don't think he is at the level of the other players who have come through their system, they take a hell of a lot of pride from their youth system and will more often than not give them a fair crack in the side to make things work. Sometimes it doesn't happen though, look at Arteta a very good player who didn't quite make the cut at Barca. You have to base your opinion on the player now and some players blossom later on than expected and for some it just doesn't happen.

I wouldn't entirely rule out the possibility that Berbatov may go the other way - it could all be part of some wider Spurs-Barca deal.

Nor would I rule out the simple possibility that dos Santos wanted to go because he wants regular first team football, finds the idea of playing in the Prem very attractive, likes the idea of playing under a spanish-speaking manager like Ramos and refused any Barca offer to be sent out on loan (he'd already said that if he ever left it would be permanent as far as he's concerned).

I'd be surprised if we sold Huddlestone. Ramos has just been saying that, whilst Huddlestone has some things to learn, he thinks he has the potential to be a future England great.

Zokora? Not sure really. He's a bit hot and cold and we can probably do better. Ramos seems to like him (least he's played him a lot), but I think he's destined to become DM cover next season rather than first-choice - unless we play 4-3-3 in which case he has more of a possible starting role.

A lot of people think 4-3-3 (or flexible variations on that) is what Ramos is aiming for.

how likely (or unlikely) is it that Berbatov will be with the Spurs come August?

Had a bright future...

I suspect we will bump this thread in a few years thinking what might have been

A few weeks ago I was pretty sure he'd be gone, but now I'm less certain. Still think it's a lot more likely than not, but:

* With Modric and (it seems) dos Santos and Dunne arriving, and probably other players to come, Berbatov just might just be wavering a little and thinking 'hmmm, maybe I'll stick around for another year and see what happens'.

* Or maybe we just won't get the level of bid we want, and so keep him. Ramos has said if he wants to go then the club won't stand in his way, but in that event if we don't get the money we want then he stays.

But realistically, with the level of money we're now shelling out this summer and no end to the spending yet in sight, it's hard to see how we can do this and not be expecting to recover a goodly chunk from a Berbs sale. However, Spurs have surprised me before, so ....

Depends on who ends up as Chelsea manager - if he fancies Berbatov they'll pay the £25M+, if not he's still at Spurs since no one else is going to pay over 20.
Think that's about right. No Italian club would pay more than 25m euros for him.
Dunno if Barca or Real want him.

I'm loving these words in the Sun (regardless of whether they're accurate or not):

Spurs beat Chelsea, Manchester City and Inter Milan to the Mexican winger ... Giovani, 19, was swayed after meeting White Hart Lane chiefs in London back in January.

Inter [Milan] and City were last night desperately trying to persuade agent Pini Zahavi to get the player to change his mind.

Spurs’ swoop has stunned Chelsea, who made two failed raids for Giovani after tracking his development for four years.

I was thinking the same thing.... surely Spurs would subsidize all their recent purchases with the selling of Berbatov right? If not, they would have a very good attacking unit.... either way, it works out

Anyone know what's happening with Gai Assulin next season? He looks another real prospect at Barca.

He's staying in the B-Team for one more season, I believe. Thiago and another great prospect there are making the step-up to the first team for some game time (particularly if Dos Santos does leave), but Assulin will have to wait another year for that.

Unless Cheslki want him, or perhaps us, Berbs will stay probs.

He's good, but overrated. We deffo shouldn't pay more than a tab over 20 million for him. We don't need him really.

Glaston..do you think if dos Santos goes to your club, you guys would be a bit lightweight on the wings? That's assuming him and Lennon plays together on either side

Would certainly be an interesting singing for the Spurs, if it goes through.

And not only because his mate (and co-U17 WC tormentor) in Carlos Vela will be playing for us.

Wonder what the passport issue would be like, seeing as we had to go through so much fuss (two years of it) to get Vela here.
