MANCHESTER UNITED could swoop for German striker Mario Gomez — if Carlos Tevez quits the club.

The Stuttgart striker has scored 13 goals in 19 games for the Bundesliga outfit this season and his form has caught the eye of United boss Alex Ferguson.

But Real Madrid coach Juande Ramos is also said to be keen on the 23-year-old, who has a £30million buy-out clause in his contract.

According to German newspaper Bild, Ferguson has had Gomez watched on numerous occasions this season.

And with Argie ace Tevez said to be considering his future at United due to a lack of playing time, the Red Devils supremo could turn to Gomez as a replacement.

I was wondering when this would come up...

Last I heard he has an agreement with Bayern to join in the summer. But who knows. Think Berbatov + Gomez would be a little bit like Ibrahimovic + Adriano. Wouldnt be a fan of that.

I watched him in the Euro's, he looked fairly shit to be honest. He does have a decent scoring record though, so maybe Germany were a bit shit or somthing.

Don't think it'd be like that at all.

Gomez's biggest asset is how well he gets in behind, Adriano and Ibrahimovic don't do that well enough at all.

It'd be more similar to Berbatov-Torres, realy. And you said that'd be a great partnership, which it would be.

I like him, but I don't like the fact he doesn't ionvolve himself in the build-up play well enough for our team.

And I think he's likely to go to Bayern as well.

Gomez is mobile, for a big guy. I'd say Adriano is when he wants to be.

He's certainly nowhere near Torres' in terms of movement though. Imo Gomez' biggest asset is his height.

Aye, but so did most strikers besides Spain's two.

Benzema and Toni were, and iirc quite a few of them were.

Don't agree at all.

His movement is brilliant.

But he's not fast as feck to go along with it  which is part of movement.

He isn't?

Are you sure we're talking about the same guy here?

He's very fast, and agile.

Yes. We're talking about Mario Gomez and comparing to one of the fastest strikers around.

He's fast for a big guy but he doesnt compare here.

He didn't look mobile at the Euro's to me, although ignore me as I've only seen him play at the Euro's. I don't watch German football.

Not United quality Gomez. He's shite in fact. This is absolute bollox anyway

20m to keep tevez, 30m to sign an unproven(in the league) gomez
story makes perfect sense

He's a bit shit. He might score in the Bundesliga, but he doesnt in Europe or for the National team. Hands off, I'd say

I agree,in the last Euro he was so poor that I felt bad for him.The germans went from 4-4-2 in the start of the competition to 4-5-1 because he couldn't hit a barn door.

Agree.

I'd keep Tevez if this is the idea. Could probably get Eto'o for that much to be honest and I'd take him over two Gomez'.

Tevez is gone, the question is just who we get and let's hope the Ashton connection doesn't pop up again :nervous:

Brwned, how much football do you watch? Honestly.

Why would you watch Stuttgart?

Do you actually watch an incredible amount or just a Fifa/FM/Wikipedia/Youtube freak?

Didn't I say earlier in this thread that I'd only watched him play against Hoffenheim this season?

That's the only time I've watched him all this season, although Stuttgart were on Setanta a fair bit last season and I seen him then.

So I'm not sure what type of freak I am, but I don't think I'd be one of them. I've not got an xbox/playstation, FM's rubbish and I honestly haven't played it since the first time I played it, and well I don't watch youtube for anything really.

Not quite. But not far short of that sort of speed.

Gomez is Welbeck at best, Torres is Campbell speed.

Welbeck fast?

Christ, that one will come back and bite you on the arse if he moves to a team in Spain or here, and gets more exposure.

So unless he's lost a whack of speed since last year, then I very much think you're wrong.

Have you seen much of him this season, or are you in the same boat as me and have only seen him once or twice?

Saw him a few times last season, havent seen him at all since the *euros where he wasnt at all mobile.

He was the few times I'd seen him in the season though. And Welbeck is quick, which is what I'm saying about Gomez. He's fast enough to get away... But Torres is a speed demon. Rapid.

Right, so then we are in the same boat then.

I dunno, maybe I'm wrong, but I'd put him up there with the fastest top strikers around.

Torres is faster, but he's not Welbeck speed either.

He'd be a heck of a striker if he's as fast as you're saying. Worth that £30 million. But I havent seen it.

He's not that fast, but he's not slow either...good finisher, better finisher than Rooney,Berba and Tevez...i think he should go to Italy

Good buy. I spent around 17 mil to bring him int FIFA 2009 (I am AC Milan) and he ha sbeen in profilic form since. Leads the league with 14 goals.

buy him united.

That settles it then,

Get him Fergie!

Think this guy is shite. Did nothing in the major tournements.

Very good player. Calm finisher, excellent in the air and with both feet, decent at leading the line as well. I think he would do well in England, City are likely to put in a bid this summer. The buy-out clause is indeed £30m, but it's only for clubs outside the Bundesliga, so Bayern obviously would have to pay more. I've read the original reports and it only said 'United have watched him a couple of times' (nothing about Fergie's interest at all) while Gomez comment was something like 'clubs should approach my club [Stuttgart], not my agent' - so it's clearly bollocks.

Last I heard he has an agreement with Bayern to join in the summer.
Would be a fantastic addition to Bayern's squad, but last thing Hoeness said is that they are not interested in signing him for more than 30m Euros. They still might change their tune though, Podolski is off in the summer and Donovan is Championship quality, which leaves them only with Klose and Toni as reliable striking options.
