One thing I dont understand is when I was playing a few games as Eikrem in Player mode, I didnt see anywhere to upgrade his skills. Perhaps they get autoupgraded, there's no screen that I saw which tells you what your rating is so you can work it out. So it may be that you play 12 seasons of career with a real player and the player doesnt get any better? Or maybe I just missed the screen. We'll see

So I'm winning a match and then it says connection lost.. says I can't connect to EA servers at this time (though I can again after 2 mins) then records a 3-0 loss for myself. Bullshit.

I had that problem, servers went down. Pain in the arse, as your DNF goes up as well.

It's infinitely better than fifa 10, and that's the main thing. No longer is it possible to batter top teams into submission, and you actually have to work your goals relatively intelligently, at least, on legendary you do. It gives you far more satisfaction beating Stoke 2-1 away in a tight game than it does beating United 6-0 at Old Trafford.

The other team also keep the ball better, and it makes you pass the ball better yourself because there's no guarantee you'll get it back for a bit. The only thing that annoys me is that I tend to foul quite a lot from getting to their players late in the tackle, which I guess is a good thing in terms of the game. All in all, impressed.

I played on WC on the last one and did pretty good winning most of my games on here same difficulty and I'm losing and drawing a lot more games.

Was playing around 5, 6 hours on this yesterday. 2 on 2's of Man United vs Spurs/ Chelski. This supposed pro passing mode, how the held do you thread a long, quick pass?? Even with full passing bar, it barely goes quarter the length of the field. The refereeing seriously frustrates me as well, slightest touch and out come the whistle.

You can select which referee you want in your FIFA profile.

Yeh I found that out the hard way, what a load of bollocks. God knows why they thought that would be a good idea. Probably so in the Chants section you can have a variety rather than just one.
its something to do with how the xbox is set up, the smackdown games use the same way with entrance themes

Press triangle if you're on PS3. Maybe give it a bit of loft too, then it'll go the whole length of the pitch. Make sure you're using a good passer of the ball too, eg, Cesc, Scholes etc.

Went back to my first game of career mode as manager of United. Simmed out the second half of the season. Over the course of the season 4 or 5 players went to -1 growth, Giggs went to -2. And only Nani improved to plus1

By pre-season of season 2, nothing changed.

So even though Rafael had 32 starts and Hernandez had 26 starts, neither player improved for season 2. Either the growth isnt working as intended or there's something else that affects it, not playing time. Either way thats frustrating at the moment.

You might need to upgrade your staff? At the end of my first season most of my players got at least one growth point even with very few starts (except for the older players which makes no difference as they're in their last year of contract).

Can someone tell me how to beat Liverpool on legendary? It's borderline impossible, they defend with 10 behind the ball then they hit you on the break. Nightmare.

They only say that because Fifa10 was ridiculously fast, from goal to goal in seconds, now it's been slowed down to realistic it feels weird for people because they aren't as fast as they used to be.

Played for a couple of hours last night and i've still got mixed feelings about this.

I didn't play WC so it feels pretty strange coming straight from FIFA10 to this as it's so different. It's definitely slower but i used to play 10 on slow most of the time anyways as i thought it was too fast.

There are lots of improvements imo. I used to get beat a lot online because rather than play "the best way to win" with ping-pong passing and a throughball to a strong, pacy forward, i always try to play realisticly with a range of passing and using crosses etc. and this version definitely rewards that style of play more than 10 did.

Also, even though i'm still getting to grips with the technique, i'm playing on World Class now and winning fairly comfortably whereas i'd struggle before and played mostly on Pro. Again, i think this is down to the game being more accomodating to my style of play.

There are some annoying niggles that are getting to me so far though. Handballs are ridiculous. Those got turned off pretty much straight away. The random breaks in crowd noise during subs or when showing a player's stats are annoying. The fact that the losing team just all shake hands with eachother at the end of the game when it's obvious that they should be doing it with the opposing team....though at least the winners celebrate with the trophy now instead of it being invisible....saying that though there seems to be no camera flashes going off in the crowd during the celebration but when the camera looks up into the sky to see the ticker-tape there are lots of flashes in the sky which look suspiciously like they are supposed to be camera flashes. Poor.

These are obviously not game breaking bugs but are just simply annoying niggles that should easily have been ironed out.

Overall though, gameplaywise, i'm pretty impressed....even though it's going to take me a while to get my technique down.

Must get back to practice.

I'm pretty sure those are some hilariously shit fireworks that make no noise and don't spread. They look more like anti-aircraft fire!

I don't like this. Might push me away from getting the game. What's so entertaining when a game is not challenging??

Its definitely more challenging than Fifa 10, or other football games. Whether that translates to being a challenge to you, only you can decide.

I caved in and bought it on the way home earlier, despite playing it the other day and not being impressed.

Not sure what to make of it.

Pros -
No more being able to play the same passing move every single time, then push through and chip the keeper and barging the defender off the ball, every single time
Something about the way the players play the ball and bring it under control just looks and feels better than before
It's not ridiculously fast
I'm liking it a LOT more than Fifa10...by this point Fifa10 had already been confined to my "shit games" pile. This one's got promise and seems more challenging than the WC game.

Cons -
The "rebuilt" career mode actually is the exact same career mode as last year except with new menu screens. Infuriating yet not at all surprising
Pro passing - Sometimes the ball goes to a completely different player to who/where you pressed to pass it, which kind of defeats the point
AI has gone a bit spastic - Some of this may just be me getting used to the game, but so far it seems; it's impossible to push forwards because your midfield and centre backs refuse to let you; counter attacks break down ala PES10 because the computer is too slow to react with supporting players; every opposing cpu team plays EXACTLY the same way; forwards just seem to stand behind their markers like Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime, all the time, and if they're not standing behind their marker, they'll run until they're behind their marker
Personality+ - doesn't exist
Johnny Evans does not look like that, and never has
EA and their ripping the piss out of people - you have to pay more money to play the live season mode (why?), and, it seems you can't take the game round your mates and play it online unless you "Purchase" another online voucher? That's genuinely pathetic, even for them.

Fifa bug watch
- When I scored my players ran into the crowd to celebrate, as in, they ran around, on top of where the crowd were. This has happened twice
- United fans singing Chelsea songs
- Once in the practice arena, the goalkeeper myseriously materialised on the half way line, and stuck to my player?

I've noticed all of these.

Hopefully can be fixed with a patch.

I'm enjoying it so far. Big improvement on FIFA 10.

Playing on World Class at the moment, and it feels like an achievement to score, which FIFA 10 didn't have.

After five days I've decided it's brilliant. I can play at full pace now and I can pass the ball around finally, so it's a joy. Good thing that it's slower than the previous one, much less luck involved and more skills needed to do something of a note.

Well i said "fairly comfortably". I won my pre-season games and then beat Chelsea in the Community Shield on pens after a 0-0 draw. Then i beat Wolves 3-0 in my first PL game but got beat 1-0 by West Ham and then 2-0 by West Brom then beat City 2-0 and i'm languishing in mid-table. So it's definitely a challenge. Plus i have the board difficulty set to Pro so i'd probably have been sacked by now if it was on WC too.

There is also Legendary difficulty but i don't reckon i'm ready for that yet.

Love the slide tackling. Big improvement from FIFA 10. And you can finally feel the benefit of players like Fletcher - he's a beast in it, closing down and winning the ball.

I've probably been sliding in a bit too much though. In my first few games I was averaging a red card a game.

Exactly. It feels so much more satisfying that you have to 'play football' rather than just playing the best way to win....if that makes sense.
