I think it's because with Ronaldo we always knew deep down that he was going to leave at some point & so him staying was a bonus really.
With Rooney we never ever thought it was possible and so he shattered our expectations of him.

Maybe we just put him too high on the pedestal in the 1st place but needless to say my expectations of him are lower now and he won't ever get the same support I gave him previously.
all I know is, I still miss Ronaldo, and can't bear him in that white shirt and not ours - I don't think I'd feel the same about Rooney, but it maybe because deep down I always knew Ronaldo would go, yes

If only they could all be like Eric!

He has completely undermined our club and he's got his wages doubled as a gift

fecking football eh
I wish real life was like that, walk into your bosses office and question the policies of the company, his vision and get a pay rise because of it

No. That would have been the case if he had left for a bumper deal at City.

What this has done is show everyone in the world that United remain a top club and a top attraction for top players.

Mansour can wave his wad but the proper players stay at United.

So people on here just want to continue looking like fools.

Read the Rooney statement again. At what point does he say "I want to leave"? Fact is, he doesn't. He says he wouldn't renew his contact due to the result of a meeting with David Gill regarding the clubs future. None of us know what that meeting was about, was it to do with money? was it to do with Sir Alex? Was it to do with ambition? No one knows. Instead, alot of you choose to make your own stories up.

Watch Rooney's interview. The key part of it was he felt he had no where to go until Sir Alex said the door was open. Does that sound like a player who desperately wants out of the club? No, it doesn't. Those words from Sir Alex have been the key to all of this.

My guess is Rooney and Sir Alex had had a fall out stemming from the revelations about Wayne's private life. Their relationship has deteriorated and Rooney, who looks at Sir Alex as a "father figure", has taken the knock. Add that to on going contract negotiations (which may I add should have been sorted a while ago), poor form, constant media attention, marriage problems, persistent injuries and the presence of Paul Stretford on his shoulder, things have spiraled out of control.

I imagine there are worries around the playing staff about the Glazers. I mean us fans are scared enough. The G&G campaign has been in full flow and every other week the newspapers print how the club is in free fall and things are falling apart. Is Rooney wrong to be concerned about this? No, he isn't. Not one bit. The fans want answers and so do the players. You can't argue with that surely.

A player, who is on record from his own mouth, stating he wants a life contract, he wants to emulate Ryan Giggs and Bobby Charlton, he couldn't play for another club suddenly doesn't change their mind.

Again, we don't know everything there is to know about this fiasco. I think United have questions to answer, as do Rooney and Stretford. One thing I will say, is I won't stand and boo Rooney as who am I, without knowing whats gone on, to do that?

No one knows what is in his new contract when it comes to money, so why do you all persist in listening to the very media sources that told us Rooney would be gone in January? Will some of you not learn? Clearly not.

Yes, this whole thing has been a fiasco and yes I have lost some respect for Wayne Rooney as a result of it, but the situation is far from unattainable in my eyes. There was no transfer request nor was there any holding the club to ransom. Fergie has handled this brilliantly, and if he has decided Wayne should be able to stay and we as a club should move on, who am I, or any of you, to question him.

After all, what do we really know?
Couldn't have put it better myself (although i arguably did )

This is a huge victory for Manchester United, and especially for our manager!

We come out on top on after that our top player questioned our future ambition's. In a emotional pressconference, in front of the whole footballs world, Sir Alex Ferguson explained to everyone about this club's value's.

1. David Gill didn't have to explain himself in public.

2. Wayne Rooney signed a new contract, quite close to the original one.

3. The football world, especially all top players around the world know no that we are back in business again. (No it's up to the owner to deliver)

4. We gain sympathy and nobody think's we acted wrong.

Regarding Wayne Rooney. He will come back, sooner or later, to normal. In mars april this will be history.

The big looser is Paul Streetford. Yes he earned a lot of money but he loosed every uns of credibility and he look like a twat nobody like.
I don't think anyone on Mars cares about it anyway :p

I will do, but unfortunately everyone who is going on about it has gone quiet...

I very much doubt there is a link.
 Absolutely ridiculous isn't it?

Never have I seen so many, waffle for so long, about something they know absolutely nothing about. It defies belief it really does.

people keep saying that it's a ploy to maybe sell him for more but can somebody tell me what would Rooney gain from doing that though? Sure united will get more money for the player but you'd have to expect that potential suitors wouldn't be half as willing to pay mega bucks in wages if they have to fork out another £20m to get the player?

Only City would be able to do that I believe and if recent rumblings are to be believed and City have already approached Rooney then they're not going to be impressed with how it's developed and could potentially pull the plug on such deal.

Rooney and probably more so Stretford would gain little by doing this in my opinion anyway.

You weren't already aware of that?

The fact that Rooney blatantly pissed in their faces, and these fags are falling over themselves to welcome him back is cringeworthy.

I think what people need to realise and accept is that Rooney was ALWAYS going to get a pay rise of some sort. He is young and has just had the season of his life. He was hardly going to be one of our lower paid players.

But yes, I agree. I haven't seen any reports about Rooney's new wage anywhere, yet alot of people on here seem to have exact figures and say it is "fact".

Rather confusing

Nah JGray you're extraordinary mate ;)

One guy has basically proclaimed Rooney as a hero for bringing Uniteds lack of spending to public attention.. "he's done it for the green an gold innit, hes saying he cant keep doin it on 'is own right, we should be buyin the best players in the world like citeh an real madrid, he's done this to take the fight to the Glazers innit"

Get of my screen you retard.
