does anybody know for a fact that he is good enough to replace VDS?
Not even Eric Steele knows that for a fact. There's always the risk of failure when you buy a player, especially from another league. However, he's a very good keeper and, importantly, an extremely confident lad. He's got that aura of invincibility about him that all great keepers have and, though it's a bit speculative, I think he'll fancy his chances of being first choice even if VDS plays for another season or we sign De Gea for crazy money. He's repeatedly stated that his main ambition in life is to be the best keeper in the world and that he's willing to do whatever's necessary to get there. Whoever he'll compete with for the no.1 jersey will have a helluva fight on their hands.

Edit; feck off, Lap.

Will he be going on a killing spree?

I guess once all sides established they wanted the deal done, no one was in a major hurry.
Aalesund might wanted to take their time to see if someone else came in for him as well. He has been linked to Arsenal as well as Bayern Munchen among several other German clubs perhaps gain a bit more money that way. If several clubs bid it will quickly increase quite a bit.

I believe half of the transfer fee will go to OB Odense as Aalesund paid small amounts to sign him from the Danes, as well as a sizeable part of Aalesunds fee will go to some rich blokes, not that that matters because they are the ones whom fund the transfers for Aalesund FK anyway.

Anders Lindegaard, the Denmark international goalkeeper, has flown into England to complete his £3.5m move to Manchester United from the Norwegian club Aalesunds.

Lindegaard is due to take his medical examination tomorrow (Fri) and, if everything goes according to plan, a deal will be concluded for him to move to Old Trafford at the start of January.

The 26-year-old will initially join as understudy to Edwin van der Sar but will have the chance to take over on a permanent basis if the Dutchman decides to retire at the end of the season, having recently turned 40.

Why is he playing in Norway again and not in Denmark? Denmark pays better and the league is much stronger. I mean the main GK of Lilleström is Icelandic and he doesn't even make the national team and we don't have good goalies. Just odd to seem him in a new team like Aalesund.

He was at OB but the Danes preferred Roy Carroll.

Reports that only a medical stands in the way of Anders Lindegaard joining. Personal terms agreed, according to radio man @hughferris.

feck's sake, we've been through this before in the thread. The Danish league is probably not stronger, and to suggest it is much stronger is laughable.

Okay, let me tell the story about Lindegaard.

In 2003 OB signed Arek Onyszko, one of the very best keepers in the Danish league. Mental, but a quality keeper. In 2003 Lindegaard turned 20, so there was no chance they were gonna count on him.

Lindegaard was promoted to reserve goalie for a few seasons before OB, in 2009, decided to send him on loan to Aalesund where he could get some playing time. He was a huge success in Norway, and at the same time Arek Onyszko was in trouble. He was being accused of violence and was arrested in the dressing room after a game.

As he was later found guilty and sentenced to prison, OB sacked him. OB said: "No problem, we'll just call Lindegaard back and make him first choice." He returned.

Lindegaard started the season in goal and did very well. But a few weeks into the season he got injured. As his understudy was also out and with a European tie against Sampdoria coming up OB needed to find a replacement fast.

They invited Roy Carroll on trial and ended up signing him, making him one of their top earners. The media were surprised and Lindegaard was furious. He knew he would be warming the bench yet again, you don't bring Roy Carroll to the Danish league if he's not gonna play.

With Aalesund still interested Lindegaard asked for a transfer and a deal was done.

Sir Alex on Lindegaard "Negiotiations are over... he'll join us in January. We've got to prepare for the day when Edwin... bows out."

I don't think van der Sar will retire this summer, I think he will take another season. The one leaving this summer I think will be PIG, and I think it is realistic that we get the same fee for him that we ended up paying for Lindegaard.

According to Manchester Evening News article today, about Rooney never going to City, it says that the price was £4.2m rather than the £3.5m that was linked at first. Looks like Aalesunds waiting game might have paid up for them, 0.7m is quite a bit of money in Norway. For example, Molde spent a bit less than £300,000 on Bugge Pettersen - now that Lindegaard is gone - he might be the best goalkeeper in Norway. So even though £700,000 its peanuts in the Premier League it is a lot for a club Aalesunds that will have to share the money with OB.

I think even Amos would be gutted if he ends up second to Roy Carroll.

So let's get this straight, we're signing PIG's replacement, who got replaced by the player PIG replaced in our team?
Yes. But if we move to sign Lindegaard and de Gea, I honestly believe that Lindegaard can give de Gea a fight for his money on the first team spot. Despite de Gea probably will cost five or six times as much.

...and than, for the second time, Aalesunds FK has published an article stating that the deal is done, just to to take it back...

I guess there is someone at Aalesund that is eager to be the first to confirm that they have completed their second, J.A. Riise was the first, big transfer. If the figures quoted are correct, this deal is 3 times as big as the one they got from Monaco when they sold Riise.

Reds sign Lindegaard

Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Aalesunds FK to sign Danish international goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard on a 3½ year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Personal terms have been agreed with the player, who passed a medical in Manchester. Anders will train with United during December, but will be ineligible to play until the transfer window opens in January 2011.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Anders is one of the brightest young keepers in the game. The challenge at Manchester United is always to look to the future and in Anders, we have signed a goalkeeper of great presence and even more promise. Having the time to train with him before he is registered will be an important period for him – almost like a pre season to get him integrated with the other players.”

Anders Lindegaard said: “Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me. The Club is such an institution in Denmark, it’s an honour to come here. I’m looking forward to playing and training alongside some of the great players in football today. I can’t wait to be part of this team and to make my contribution to keeping the team at the top of the game.”
