We all love United
He's equally comfortable on the ball capable of one-two touches and breaking up play himself. He's turning into a super footballer whom i initially thought he's just a typical midfield destroyer. Why do Barcelona need to buy Mascherano for i don't really know.

Javier was needed for competition and for the games Barca need to be dirty in.

Always been a fan of his play (not his personality). Remember having many arguments in the newbies as to who was better between him and Toure.

Despicable cnut. Excellent player, unfortunately the former spoils the latter for me.

I like this lad a lot, hes basically a more gifted on the ball version of Michael Carrick but maybe lacks the same range of passing. He very rarely passes it back under pressure and once he breaks up play, always looks up and releases a forward pass.. not to mention the way he can keep the ball under pressure shield it and even take on men when he wants to.

This Barca side can just afford to ditch Yaya Toure and leave Mascherano on the bench, its pretty impressive.

Spot on. Probably why I'm such a fan of young Sergio. ;)

Top, top player. Best holding player in Europe, for me.

All excellent players, from the Barca academy, that will probably be amongst the best in their position for another 8-10 years.

Pique is hardly a star center back. He's lived quite well off the cover the Barcelona midfield give him, but we've seen that under pressure he's prone to making mistakes. Very lucky not to be sent off in the 2009 CL final when he took Ronaldo down as last man. He's good but he's given more credit then he's due.

In saying that, he's still instilled by that never die Manchester United attitude.
We saw it last year against Inter when nearly every Barcelona player had given up.

He's a great player but such a cnut sorry my dislike of him transferred to yu.

The best moment of the 2009 CL Final was when Scholes showed himwhat a bad tackle looked like

Yeah, he's an annoying cnut, but don't let that cloud your judgement - Busquets is positionally good, reads the game well, has good technique, can pick a pass etc. Barca have had some good players in that role in the past few yrs like Albertini, Gabri, Van Bommel, Motta etc, but Busquets is certainly proving to be just as good for Barca - while leaving the captain of Argentina on the bench!

He's also managed to carve out a place in the national team, and the annoying cnut is fairly young

Welcome to Manchester reception committee
He's playing well. I haven't even noticed him be particularly annoying recently. Though I guess when the alternative is Mascherano, who I'd send off before the match starts, it may be that I'm more forgiving of Busquets these days.

Mentioned it in here before, he reminds me of Guardiola. He has such a platform to develop further on and has so much time to do so. He could be an absolute world beater for years to come, the prick :smirk:

Odd list. Albertini played all of five games for barca, gabri was a promising youngster who didn't play much in the holding role anyway before he turned shit and got dumped for a life in smaller clubs where he belongs, Van Bommel got offloaded because he was ultimately only ever decent for them and Motta only grew into a proper player years after leaving barcelona.

Bumping this thread up, but anyone has any idea how he's been doing so far this season?
One of their best players, not even taking the piss. I thought Iniesta and Xavi started the season very slowely and Sergio B has pretty much been on form in every game i've watched. Even slotted in at the back in the last game. Although i think his lack of pace means he really shouldnt with the way Barcelona play.

He's like a midfield enforcer draped in velvet.

He is already the best holding midfielder in the world at the age of 22.

Guardiola doesn't think so. I can assure you 99% of other managers don't either.

Busquets was sensational at the World Cup, and has proven himself for Barcelona at every level. He is super.
it's not about Guaridola not thinking so, it's about Pep favouring his Lamasia lad in my opinion, and you have no proof 99% managers do, that's a bizaare statement

Yaya can do things Busquets just hasn't got the ability to do

Basically Busquets performs the role he is given better than Yaya Toure could or did. Which essentially makes him better for Barcelona than Yaya Toure was. Who is the better player doesnt really matter in this case because Busquets has shown he is better in the role he is required for.

Personally i think he's a better player, more intelligent and technically more gifted.

So you have proof that the only reason Pep kept Busquets over Yaya was because he was homegrown hahahah

Yeah like play as attacking midfielder, but that really has no bearing on who is the better holding player.

I never conveyed it as a statement like John did Hahahah:wenger:
His opinion is implicit in what he said, do you really think that he had the stats

Pep maintained he wanted to keep him

that's just bizaare logic

was Eto swapped with Zlatan because Zlatan is better?

after some of Pep's blunders in the transfer marker why is he being treated like an oracle?
Na, he had both at his disposal which is a unique position to judge players. Say what you will but Busquets WAS better than Yaya and still is. He just fits Barcelona more.
