Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has branded the Manchester United fans who sang vile chants about the Hillsborough and Heysel disasters at Sunday's Youth Cup tie at Anfield as "disgusting".

Three United fans were arrested and six ejected from the ground during the match, which the visitors won 3-2 from 2-0 down with both sides having a pair of players sent off.

"I have never seen anything like that before at a youth game and I never want to see anything like it again. It was disgusting," said Aldridge, who was in the team at Hillsborough when 96 Liverpool fans died in 1989.

"You get used to banter from United fans when they come to Anfield but to hear those songs about Heysel and Hillsborough was just horrible.

Aldridge added in the Liverpool Echo: "The level of abuse was absolutely sickening.

"There was evidently a group who had just come to cause problems and I felt sorry for the families in the Manchester United end who just wanted to watch a game of football."

A United spokesman said: "Singing songs about the Hillsborough and Heysel tragedies is disgraceful. We will deal harshly with anyone brought to our attention."

Must admit I never heard the chants. Did anyone?

He's right of course. I hope those so called fans never will be at a football ground when United play again. fecking idiots to chant about that.

At any time it's unacceptable...... but at a fecking Youth Cup game? The place was full of families/kids.

Vile and disgusting chants, no doubt, but I don't see newspaper articles about their fans singing about Munich every match, or City fans for that matter.

Someone posted on RAWK about sitting near someone doing Munich gestures all game.

But it's clear there is knobheads on our side as well.

Neither side can take the moral highground. Neither side can say ones acceptable. The whole mocking each others dead at a football match isn't right. You can't justify it.

Do they still though? I see the airplane displays but the chants...I don't believe I've seen that in a long while. In fact it was Leeds who I last saw do it and that was in the League

I think the fact it was at a youth game made it worse.

Utd fans have chanted these at proper games too, so in that respect they are as bad as eachother

It happened, and he fails to point out the Liverpool fans chanted about Munich. Our lot were definitely aggressive, no going away from that. Some of the kids on the field also copped a fair bit, yes opposition players get called all sorts of things, but some of them were these were 16-17 year olds...

No excuse for grown men to be abusing them, and calling them murderers etc ect. Their lot also gave Ravel a 'warm' welcome...He of course responded with his smug celebration.

If the 1st team hadn't played them last week, and we hadn't lost, I'm sure none of this would have happened.

Poor effort from all concerned.

There you go.

But as usual, this will never be told.

Yes.

True, but like someone else above has said, Liverpool fans were making Munich gestures at the same game.

I'm not excusing anything, it's disgraceful, but I don't see why it's only United fans being tarnished.

Personally , I don't like Aldridge , I think he's a smarmy , inflammetary git myself...

However, I have to agree with his sentiments in this case - it's out of order
and needs to be stamped out before it escalates.......otherwise, people will
start getting seriously hurt IMHO.

We shouldn't be complaining about it being reported. We should be complaining about the people who sing it. We can't justify it, even if we do get a lot of bad press.

I have no problem with it being reported, but report it all, not just the United fans. Report the fact that there were Liverpool fans doing the exact same thing about Munich.

Must've been about 20 odd or so United singing that. All young lads, the rats.
The scousers gave as good as they got. I don't see Aldridge crying about that, the fecking prick.

I can't believe anyone gets outraged by this anymore. Scousers hate Mancs, Mancs hate scousers. That will never, ever change and (unfortunately) the chants will never go away.

When I hear them giving it Munich, it's water off a ducks back.

People should know what really happened or we will get even worse treatments by opposing supporters esp the scousers.

Aldridge is one to talk.

That's the problem whenever this gets brought up. So many people throwing stones you can't hear anything through the sound of glass shattering.

Why can't everyone just grow up?

We don't even know if Liverpool fans did do it this game. Let's be honest, the away fans are more than likely the more boisterous group. We have a RAWK poster say he saw one person do it. That's it. I've seen some stuff at OT before, but doesn't make what we did right.

Watch any televised City game and you'll do well to hear the "Carlos Tevez is a blue, he hates Munichs" song a single digit number of times.

...

And nobody is defending the idiot United fans, so I'm not sure why you're suggesting they are.

To be fair Hillsbrough is alot fresher in the memory. Very good chance that some that died their would have relations in the ground (just normal people).

Munich happened before you were born (I am guessing)

At the Latest FA Cup Match

Aldridge is throwing a hissy fit because Liverpool's youth team threw away a two goal lead in a game no one outside of the United/Liverpool fan base even cares about.

and idiots from both sets of fans are at it all the time. We've had to ban countless people (on both sides of the fence) from here over the years.

Finger pointing in one direction just because your team lost is almost as sad and petty as the act itself.

If anyone wants to be noble and take a moral highground, they can start by addressing the issues on their own doorstep...and I don't see anyone willing to do that.

See I kind of agree with that. It's just words. People shouting nasty things at each other, at a football match. Shock horror.

People like Aldridge getting so riled by it all will only serve to perpetuate the whole stupid thing. If everyone just ignored the unpleasant chants, they'd die out soon enough.

Cant agree more.

Unless it picks up momentum.

And that matter how?

They are both unforgivable. But obviously if there are relations of anyone who has died in Hillsbrough it is going to hit home for them far harder than it will for Munich chants directed at Man Utd supporters.

This was in response to Talking Vulture saying Munich chants were "like water off a ducks back"

I was out in Leeds on Saturday night and there was a couple of gobby Arsenal fans giving it to a couple of United fans (this is Leeds btw, mental)
Anyway, I stuck me 2pence worth in and one of the Arsenal fans (couldn't have been older than 18/19) gave it the Munichs. It's people like that that I take more offence to than the scousers.
Anyway, I had a word in his ear and he and his mate (who said feck all to back his mate up, the shit house) soon sulked off.

I was questioning whether he really is riled by it all, really?

Then I remembered he was there at Hillsborough wasn't he?

I didn't hear anything about Hillsborough or Heysel but I did see some arsehole light a red flare - in the middle of a youth game and surrounded by families with small kids ffs.
