God I fecking love JJ Abrams, my all time favourite writer, producer, director, whatever! now brings us "Super 8". Expect hardly any information to come out from this bar the odd viral marketing site as he is doing exactly what he did with Cloverfield - giving us as little information as possible

Heres the trailer:

Oh and no, this is not a Cloverfield prequel.

Good writer, Great producer... but doesn't really do much directing?

Trailer looks like the standard JJ Abrams formula... show nothing and let the hype snowball... It's not that I didn't like Cloverfield, cause I really did... but I hope this isn't something to similar.

Abrams at Comic-Con:

During today’s Comic-Con panel in which J.J. Abrams and Joss Whedon shared the stage, Abrams talked about Super 8, his top secret project.

J.J. Abrams dropped fewer hints about his upcoming collaboration with Steven Speilberg. The film begins shooting in September and will not be 3D.

“To me, the glasses make things dim,” he said. “You adjust to it, but in the beginning it always seems less. I’m not totally onboard (with 3D).”

Abrams did not talk plot details about the movie, but he did tell the story of his first interaction with the famed director. When he was in college, Abrams and a friend were hired to repair a pair of Speilberg’s old 8mm films – Firelight and Escape to Nowhere. They repaired the movies and were paid $300.

“I pitched the ‘Super 8′ movie to him a while back,” said Abrams. “It is early to talk. The movie is in the spirit of the Amblin films he made years ago. It is personal and hyper-real.”

Not much but good to hear a start date for filming and also good that he wont be going down the 3D road.

Granted the second one is essentialy a trimmed down version of the first.

Trailers don't look as good as I thought they would but I still can't wait to see it

It looks good and it has to be better than the alien films of late , Skyline being by far the worst.
There is only so many films about alien's coming to earth and wanting to either eat us all or take over the planet , that the paying public can stand.

I dislike whats bad, and like whats good. Popularity is irrelevant in how I judge anything.

Terrible film.

Abrams gets a lot of hype for someone who excels at making insufferable crap.

Yeah pretty cack. So, he was in the shed in the end then was he? Righto.
Yeah but what's he doing there Mockney? Why does he keep kidnapping people? what are all these cube things for? What are the army doing being all mysterious and shit? Why have all the dogs run away?

....exciting, except, oh wait, he's not actually doing anything in the shed, except for well, hanging about in there with the people he's kidnapped for no actual reason at all, until he gets bored and fecks off home after not doing anything of note, and the army are just sort of hanging around because he's there, and dogs are just, you know, dogs, they don't need a reason to run away in packs or anything.

Anyway, none of this matters as the important thing is some kid girl who can't act except for when she's pretending to be acting has been re-united with her father, who she already lived with, or something TRAIN EXPLOSION!!!...I dunno. The important thing is the monster didn't look like E.T. so no one can sue anyone.

I watched it when it first came out so can't remember the ins-and-outs of the movie, but I remember I rather enjoyed it. I went in not expecting much though, so having low expectations may have helped me like it more than it deserved.

I'll have to hire it out and watch it again.

I actually turned this off after 20 mins or so and I very rarely turn off movies. Just bored the shit out of me.

The most surprising thing in this thread is people saying they liked Cloverfield.

It was fecking appalling.

It started somewhere after it should have started and the credits rolled before it actually ended. Basically it's just the middle of what was probably an average film. Somewhere there is a couple of reels of flim with the Beginning and End of Cloverfield on them.
