They showed immense support to Crouch at the weekend despite his silly yellow cards in the first leg.

and yesterday....despite losing 5-0 overall, they gave an ovation to the team and were cheering them on through out the match despite a certain lost cause.

So many other club fans would boo at the final whistle, I've seen it many a time but this level of support I can truly respect.

Humble and appreciative.

Enter Manchester City fans.
Let's wait and see. Even with crazy expectations that comes with that sort of spending I'm sure they'll enjoy their European jaunt (although I really hope they don't get the chance)

Feck it, maybe Boss can remind us all of any set of fans EVER booing their team off in their final CL game in their debut season at that level?

Compare the fallout from Spurs' humiliation with their London rivals and it's easy to see why they're the classiest club in London.

I wonder if Gladstone was there?

If so, I would imagine that while his fellow Spurs fans cheered the team on, he'd have been too busy sat directly to the Madrid fans, explaining to them why Modric is better than all of their players...while none of them listened.

You have a good point and you're probably correct.

I did find it admirable how they cheered the team on through out the game, even after Gomes' blunder.

Spurs may have alot of negative connotations but their support is always top class. I've seen it live, they are fantastic.

They spent most of their time at OT calling Evra a cnut and singing 'BALEBALEBALEBALEBALE'.

meh.

The classiest club in London?

They've already booed their own team off the pitch at least twice this season.

Their fans may be a bit less spoilt and needy than the gooners but that will be down to them being a much less successful club, with much lower expectations.

I don't see why Fulham, for example, is any less classy than Spurs. Before they installed the shite Jacko statue anyway.

I'm talking about support, they don't support Evra do they?

I also have inside information that the Bale chant took months to create.
I still wouldn't call it classy. Although classy isn't a word I think I'd use to describe any collective set of fans to be honest.

I thought they came across as really bitter when they were chanting "You're just a shit Barcelona/Lionel Messi".

But credit to them for keeping the noise up to the end.

When did you see fans of a club that wasn't competing in Eurpoe at the highest level for donkeys years boo off their players upon exiting the competition in the past?

Surely not as bitter as everyone in this thread refusing to give any credit to a bunch of football fans singing 'till the end (under whatever circumstance) seemingly just because they aren't their fans...

Whatever the reasons, well done Spuds fans. It was a good advert for English football fandom.

I had two German fans come up to me on the tram after a United game this season (ironically against Spurs) and whine about how disappointed they were at how bland and quiet the United fans at Old Trafford were for such a famous club and stadium. In this day and age of growing booing and shite atmospheres, any bit of credit to fans for actually being good is good, and a worth championing thing IMO...

No one's saying it's never been done before.

I agree Boss, I was pleasantly surprised. You've got to be quite bitter if you can't accept WHL had the best atmosphere of anywhere in England in the CL this season.

They deserve credit for staying until the end. They knew before the match that they didn't have a chance, and it became certain at half time. You couldn't have blamed them for leaving early, but they stayed and showed appreciation for the team, and that is worth praise.

Aye, it's fair comment that the atmosphere at Old Trafford is not what it used to be. The same is true at most PL grounds though. Including WHL. Changing demographic of fans and what not.

I just think it's weird to start a thread blowing smoke up their arse for making a bit of noise at a dead rubber game which was always going to have a party atmosphere to put the seal on an exciting European adventure in which the consensus seems to be that they over-achieved, if anything. For me real credit should only go to fans that continue to get behind their team despite suffering genuine heart-break losing a game they had a good chance of winning, or getting knocked out of a competition in which they had genuine expectations of doing well.

No doubt this will annoy you and fuel your presumption that I only give credit to United fans but Spurs' singing last night is in no way comparable to the genuine show of class when United fans gave (fat) Ronaldo a standing ovation after he'd knocked us out of the Champion's League. That's the sort of thing which earns a set of fans real credit. Not singing a few songs on a night when the result was a foregone conclusion, towards the end of a season when their team did better than many dared hope.

Well no that's just one example of good fandom, one that also happens to be United. And also a game in which the supporters were treated to an exciting 4-3 spectacle and a home win in a game that was actually a dead rubber after about 50 minutes....As opposed to being thrashed 5-0 and having 2 fairly decent pen appeals turned down.

It's not a competition, and saying "yeah, well we did something like that once, so why give them any credit, give us credit, feck you" just seems like and incredibly churlish (and childish) attitude to me....No one's doing anything but trying to give some fans a little credit for doing something pretty good considering, no matter how much other fans would've done it...What's wrong with it? Any pent up desire to slam them and bring up your own teams examples is rather blinkered behaviour....IMO.

You really interpreted my post in that way?

Should probably read it again if so. Especially if you're gonna call me churlish and childish on that basis.

All your posts in this thread refuse to give any credit to anyone on the basis that United have probably done something better once. Your raison d'etre for posting was "no, I'm not going to say well done, na na"...It just seems an unneededly negative attitude to bring to a thread that's just trying to give a bit of credit to a team that isn't United....It's good to see duffer's gracious Well Done United post after the Chelsea game can be so heartily appreciated in kind.

You've done it again. Completely misrepresented what I've said. Amazing.

You were the first person to mention Manchester United in this thread. Which is kind of ironic, considering the theme of your sniping at me.

Wow, I really didn't expect such abuse for commending Spurs.

For that' I'm sorry.

Why is the football forum such an angry warzone at times?

I do wonder though, what you actually contribute to the Caf to be so self righteous.

meh.

im with pogue though, if it wasn't their first season in Champions League and were actually hoping to get anywhere the uproar would be similar to Arsenal.

(ok i might of bent pogues words a bit)

I guess I was the only one who thought this was a thinly veiled dig at Arsenal fans, hence my throwaway classy remark.
