Everton Football Club (nicknamed The Toffees and The Blues) are a professional football club based in Liverpool, England. Everton were founded as St Domingo FC in 1878 so that members of the congregation of St Domingo Methodist New Connexion Chapel in Breckfield Road North, Everton could play sport year round – cricket was played in summer. The club's first game was a 1–0 victory over Everton Church Club. The club was renamed Everton in November 1879 after the local area, as people outside the congregation wished to participate. The club was a founding member of the Football League in 1888–89 and won their first League Championship title in the 1890–91 season. Everton won the FA Cup for the first time in 1906 and the League Championship again in 1914–15. The outbreak of the First World War in 1914 interrupted the football programme while Everton were champions, which was something that would again occur in 1939.

It was not until 1927 that Everton's first sustained period of success began. In 1925 the club signed Dixie Dean from Tranmere Rovers. In 1927–28, Dean set the record for top-flight league goals in a single season with 60 goals in 39 league games, which is a record that still stands. He helped Everton win their third League Championship that season. Everton's second successful era started when Harry Catterick was made manager in 1961. In 1962–63, his second season in charge, Everton won the League Championship. In 1966 the club won the FA Cup with a 3–2 win over Sheffield Wednesday. Everton again reached the final in 1968, but this time were unable to overcome West Bromwich Albion at Wembley. Two seasons later in 1969–70, Everton won the League Championship, finishing nine points clear of nearest rivals Leeds United. During this period, Everton were the first English club to achieve five consecutive years in European competitions – covering the seasons from 1961–62 to 1966–67. Howard Kendall took over as manager and guided Everton to their most successful era. Domestically, Everton won the FA Cup in 1984 and two League Championships in 1984–85 and 1986–87. In Europe, the club won its first, and so far only, European trophy by securing the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1985.

All in all, Everton have won 15 major trophies: the League Championship nine times (fourth most as of 2017–18), the FA Cup five times (ninth most) and the UEFA Cup Winners Cup once. The club have also competed in the top division for a record 114 seasons, missing the top division only four times (1930–31 and three consecutive seasons starting with 1951–52). Everton have play their homes games at Goodison Park since 1892, after moving from Anfield following a row over its rent. Their biggest rivals are neighbors Liverpool, against whom they contest the Merseryside Derby.

Play Eriksen and Bruno and we already lost the midfield battle, Onana and Iwobi will run rings around them.

Team picks itself doesn't it? If anything I'd look to take Bruno out and maybe try Sancho as the 10 even, as Bruno has not played well.

Sancho, Malacia, and McTominay simply can't start. Casemiro, Fred, Eriksen should be the midfield. We are going to get ran over if both Bruno and Eriksen start.

But with Varane injured and the general performances this team has been putting up, I think we are going to get found out this game.

    De Gea
    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
    Casemiro - Fred
    Eriksen
    Antony - Martial - Rashford

    Hopefully Varane is fit.

    Rest for Malacia/Mctominay
    Bruno/Sancho dropped

It will be an interesting game. Pretty even midfields based on this seasons form with a good attack/poor defence facing a good defence/poor attack. I think whoever scores first and gets momentum will win this one.

Hope someone is fit so we can remove Lindelof from the team. Front 3 should pick itself, hopefully not Bruno and Ericksen in midfield as we‘ll get out muscled.

Everton been pretty decent recently, quite organized through the middle. But Martial and Rashford are key, those two can combine and open them up from the left against Coleman

I wish we had a midfielder who can keep the ball when pressed by opponents. Bruno shouldn’t be starting this, he’s too wasteful with the ball.

Martial and Rashford have to start, Sancho needs to be left at home. I'd be tempted to drop Bruno and start Casemiro with Fred or Mctominay.

Mostly agree but as you said a physical battle so it should be McTominay not Fred. Fred has good energy and is better further up the pitch, with the type of challenges likely to be on display on Sunday this is the type of game Scott is in the squad for.

Can we play Casemiro, Iqbal and Eriksen in midfield? Would love to see that.

Rashford, Martial and Anthony up front.
Shaw over Malacia at the back.

Bruno and Sancho on the bench for sure.

Fred's been looking good every time he comes on. I'd start him ahead of McTominay every day of the week.

Yeah can see Ten Hag doing that. Everton are tough to score against and evening game will make Goodison very intense and many away team crumbled in that situation.

In that scenario you could just push Eriksen into front 3 perhaps as Martial and Rashford will provide the direct runs.

    Feels a 1-1 this.

If Rashford and Martial are fit enough to start I don't see how you can go with any other front 3 on form. Playing Casemiro, Eriksen and Bruno will be a mistake.

Based on form I would say the attack picks itself.
Bruno has been woeful the last few games and we need a stronger more energetic midfield so letting Eriksen take Brunos place and having Fred next to Casemiro seems logical.
Malacia needs some time on the bench.

    In place of who?
Don’t get me wrong, I’d wager you’ll be right. I just also wouldn’t be surprised if Sancho started.

Perhaps he’ll feel Martial still isn’t fit enough to do 90 mins and might be a threat off the bench again, Everton would be wary of him coming on after his last 2 sub appearances. And Sancho is more match fit and integrated into Ten Hags system. Everton away will be hard so might be a safer option to go with Sancho again.

But, I expect Bruno to play instead of Casemiro and Eriksen to play deeper as usual.

Hope he drops one of Bruno or Eriksen, putting either Fred or McT alongside Casemiro. Shaw > Malacia.

Also it has to be Antony-Martial-Rashford.

I think McT will start instead of Casemiro. We really lack height in our starting 11, and McT will offer that. None of the others are strong headers.

We never do well at Goodison and it will be rocking for an evening game.

If we don’t start well, and physically like the Liverpool game, will be a struggle.

I'm worried about this one. Everton aren't playing great football but they have started to graft hard for Lampard and defend reasonably well. They have conceded the fewest goals in the PL with 7. Incredible stat.

What’s the point of height if it’s not used? As an example McT didn’t man-mark Haaland for the City’s 3rd goal when it’s clear he was the main threat in the air.
