Every week it's the same. We drop points and top 4 is all but over. Then Liverpool/City drop points and top 4 is back on.

Let it go already. We're not winning all four of our remaining games.
I expect Liverpool to take at least 4 pts and City to get 7-9 pts. We would need 10 from 12. I think the Europa will be our priority.

Wouldn't call that a weakened side by the definition of the word, still have enough about us to beat this Arsenal side.

Sadly, any squad with Rooney starting is 'weakened'.:(

And Mikhi is almost minus one these days. :(

And we have recently seen how weak we are without Pogba. :(

Anyway, the idea of going all out for the Europa is a very smart one. Sensible risk.

If ever there was a day for Rooney to show he still has something to give...

I'm really not crazy about this team... here is another opportunity for top four and we haven't yet qualified for EL final. Too much of a gamble here to play this team. I would not have started Tuanzebe in such a crucial game, and we have no composure at the back with Smalling and Jones together.

What is the point of giving up on top four when we're still this close. On paper, Arsenal should win this:(
We've drawn 10 games at home. The draw against Swansea was the final straw for Mourinho in concentrating on the league. For us now, getting a draw against Celta Vigo and a win in the Europa League final is a more realistic scenario than beating Arsenal away, Spurs away (who have 16 wins and 2 draws at home), Southampton away and Crystal Palace at home.

As long as there's a chance we should keep trying for top 4. If we're 10 points behind or something then you have no choice then. However, putting all the eggs in the EL basket doesn't seem a sensible decision imo..
    It is.

Especially considering the fact that top 4 qualification is at best a long shot.

We have three hard fixtures left that we are unlikely to win all.

The EL is a tournament we can win with our quality. If we cant, then we dont really deserve to be in the UCL. I'd rather we werent in the UCL if we are just there to add the numbers like Arsenal.

I doubt he still has it in him
Yeah. I reckon he's washed up too. Still, it'd write some great headlines if he managed to pull out a top quality performance today.

Top 4 is gone so I'm very glad we've rested our key players for Thursday.

I'm hoping Jose has mixed feelings about catching up with Liverpool and loses out by biting off too much. Anyway, should be an exciting game regardless of who plays.

The thing is, we are in such a strong position in the semi final as it is, we shouldn't need to rest players to get past them at home when nothing but a win will do for them.
We have such a good opportunity to get bring top 4 back into our hands I'd have gone for the win here.
If by the Palace match, we can't get top 4, we can rest for the final, but I just feel our position in the semi final is strong.

Although it's not that much of a weakened team to be honest, but I'd have had Pogba and somebody instead of Tuanzebe and Rooney

Shame Bailly didn't recover in time, happy for Tuanzebe though. This boy most definitely has something to offer.

Miki owes us a performance, he's been out of sorts for weeks now. Hope Martial shows up.

    Gonna miss Pogba bigtime.

We can still focus on both if we beat arsenal today.

Tuanzebe against Sanchez will be key. I think we all could guess Valencia would be rested and with Young's injury, that could well be where the game is lost. I just hope it won't be anything like last season when Sanchez ripped Darmian.

If Arsenal don't win then they truly are in a rut. It's a semi decent United XI. Mourinho has one eye on the second leg for sure

I'm worried about Herrera being run into the ground. We need two new midfielders in the summer.

Rooney will score today.........to annoy a lot of people :-)
Nobody will be annoyed if rooney scores. The lack of goals/performance are the reasons why people do get annoyed.

    Not a bad line up.

Top 4 is extremely difficult at best with our fixtures so prioritising the EL is no problem for me. Looking forward to this game, the pressure feels off a bit.

Absolutely, can't blame him for that though. That 4th spot is to close to call in my opinion, far safer bet to win the Europa.

I see that logic as well, but it's bloody scary seeing as you never know what will happen in cup games... I'm worried, it's a huge gamble in my opinion..

I understand that we should, and normally I would agree, but I just can't see us winning our remaining four games based on our performances as a whole this season.

All hypothetical of course, but if we fielded a strong team today, didn't win, and picked up injuries along the way, we really do jeopardise our chances in the EL.

My other point is that our usual team has let us down on so many occasions in the fight for top 4, so I see little wrong with taking a gamble on a much changed first 11.

Any team with Rooney in it looks like a sabotage attempt. But I guess we must keep up the pretense that he is still a professional footballer.

Neither team is making top 4, difference is United have a competition they can win to qualify for the CL

The pace of Sanchez and Welbeck is a worry but that Arsenal defence is certainly one that can be got at.
