When confidence is so low....don't change a winning team unless you have to.

People on this thread asking for 4 and 5 changes......Jesus Christ. Do you guys know anything about football?

Play the best team and get the result and then we can think about City at the weekend.
I do think we need a bit of Rotation to Keep players fresh . Pogba or Sancho for Bruno and Rashford for Cavani . Leave everything else the same . Then We will have a fresh Bruno and Cavani for City.

    Absolutely.

And not only that but it also masks many of our weaknesses too. I don't mind us going a bit more defensive as I always fancy our forwards to score.

Had we started the season in this shape we'd probably be in the top 3 now and well in the title race.
Yeah agree on this as well, the defensive issues have killed us with the likes of Maguire being so out of form this season and Shaw to a lesser extent. This formation, whilst it isn't Ole's preferred, would have helped minimised the defensive issues. Other than Chelsea the other sides haven't exactly been hitting top form either. Frustrating.

No real need for a back 3 here. A partnership of Lindelof and varane should do just fine, especially with a midfield 3 of McFred and pogba in front of them. At least this will allow us to play a front 3 given that Atlanta don't have a big chunk of their backline available

I’m 90% certain the team will be:

De Gea, AWB, Lindelof, Varane, Maguire, Shaw, Fernandes, Matic, Pogba, Ronaldo, Rashford.

I’ll genuinely be shocked if it’s anything else aside from perhaps McTominay in for Matic.

Seeing as Ole will likely stay here all season at this point, probably better to just lose here and finish 3rd in the group. Better chance at winning a trophy and a bonus chance at getting CL football next season as qualifying through top 4 will be much harder this year. Yay!!!

I would keep the same team. We have 5 subs in Europe. Plenty of opportunities to withdraw players to rest.

I hope that Ole tries out Dean Henderson here, so the team can adopt a high line against Atalanta.

That would be my view as well. Especially with the change to a back 3. There is an international break soon as well.
Need to get a result there. That is the most important thing.

Don't think Cavani plays from the start. He was already having bit of a cramping issue before he got taken off on Saturday. Will want him to start against City and give that pressing energy. Rashford probably comes in for him. Also think Pogba comes back in likely for Fred for this game. Other than that team will remain the same though would like to see Lingard in place of Bruno.

We could get tonked if they have a first choice team available.

We will win this because they play like Leeds and are insanely open.

City game will be where we are brought back to earth most likely but unfortunately two wins in games we are expected to win will keep Ole here for the foreseeable future.

Atlanta don’t have a very good home record this season. I think playing the way we did against Spurs has a good chance of getting us 3 points. I expect the same XI but expect to see all 3 attacking players taken off again in the second half unless we’re 1 goal down.

Why you so sure he won't go with McFred again? He was particularly happy with Scott after the Spurs game and he will probably fancy him to be able to play tomorrow and again Saturday.

But I'd like to see Pogba play though, as well as Rashford. I think this system can help cover for Pogba's defensive limitations whilst still be partnered with a limited partner in midfield.

    ---------------Rashford -- Ronaldo
    --------------------------Bruno------------------------
    ---
    Shaw ------- Pogba - Fred ---------- AWB
    ----------Maguire - Varane - Lindelof
    --------------------------De Gea-------------

Tongue in cheek. But actually though, if Ole is staying all season... what gives us a better chance at both a trophy this season and CL football next season? That's our current sad reality.

Building on the formation from the weekend, I would like to see us play it again. Maybe rotate bruno for DVB and Sancho and Rashford for cavani and Ronaldo. I think i would still start cavani and ronaldo in hopes to get a goal or 2 early and then rest them with youth.

McT was Ole his motm against Spurs so i doubt he will take him out of the team. Rashford for Cavani... maybe but other than that i think the team against Spurs will Ole his team for the future. Those players saved him....

Poor Sancho. What would he be thinking now?

Yeah I agree. That 11 is what I’d like to see but in fairness Scott was good and wouldn’t be unhappy with him starting so long as he has a similar performance.

To be honest I think he will struggle to keep that same side on the pitch every week, too much money left on the bench.

I think this new system could be adapted to a front three quite easily though which would get the likes of Sancho and Greenwood on the pitch more.

It'll probably be the same lineup as Spurs. Maybe Rashford for Cavani, but that might be about it.

I think we should play the same formation, with Pogba for Fred and probably Rashford for Cavani, but I would actually prefer Lingard to replace Cavani and provide the same high energy pressing - then Rashford can come in for Ronaldo in the second half. Greenwood/Martial/Sancho/DVB can replace Bruno in the second half with Lingard moving in the midfield if it's Greenwood/Martial. Telles can come in for Shaw and Matic/Fred/DVB can come in for McT in the second half too. This way we keep everyone fresh and finish the game with our fast counterattacking players, so we can take advantage of Atalanta trying to force the issue.

I think we will lineup as a back 4 this game - 433.

    DDG

    AWB Varane Maguire Shaw

    DVDB McTom Pogba

    G'wood Martial Rashford

Need 4 points from 9 to qualify, roughly the same position as last year and we all saw how that went.

We'll be extremely cautious in this.
We have a very easy group, this shouldn't happen.

Pogba is a nailed on to start as is Bruno in the midfield and I also think it’s very likely he sticks to the back 5 for at least this and the city game. Matic of McTominay probably makes sense in the deeper role in the middle and I think he will want to keep the midfield 3.

The game is tomorrow yes? So by now we should have the traveling squad but nothing on it so far
DDG posted a pic on the plane with Bruno, Mata, Bailly, Sancho and Pogba. Bruno then posted a pic with Rashford and Lingard, so all of these names are definitely travelling.

Edit: Amad with Bailly as well

In Ole's press conference he indicated that there were a couple of player who picked up knocks but he didn't name them, so assume it's a full squad minus two players at most.

Wonder if Ole trusts Bailly to start here, I suspect Shaw moves into the back 3 and Telles gets the start at LWB.

Pogba will come in for Fred or McT.

Would be great to build on the clean sheet at the weekend.

Massive game to build some sort of momentum in this competition. Start well and get an early goal has to be the strategy.
