    Know The Opposition

Association Football Club Bournemouth (nicknamed The Cherries and Boscombe) is a professional football club based in Bournemouth, Dorset. The exact date of the club's foundation is not known, but there is proof that it was formed as Bascombe FC in the autumn of 1899 out of the remains of the older Boscombe St. John's Lads’ Institute FC. Nicknamed The Cherries (Dean Court was built adjacent to the Cooper-Dean estate, which encompassed numerous cherry orchards), the team traditionally played in red shirts with white sleeves until 1971, when the strip was changed to red and black stripes, similar to that of AC Milan. The club was renamed in 1923 to Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic F.C. in 1923, which was the name until 1972, when it becomes A.F.C. Bournemouth.

Bournemouth have won the second and third tiers of English football, and were twice runners-up of the fourth tier. They have also won the Football League Trophy, and the Football League Third Division South Cup. Bournemouth have spent the majority of their history bouncing between the third and fourth tier of English football. Under manager Eddie Howe, they have risen through the pyramid; the 2015–16 season was Bournemouth's first ever in England's top division. Bournemouth's biggest rivals are Brighton & Hove Albion, Reading FC and Southampton FC. They play their home games at Dean Court, Bournemouth — currently known as the Vitality Stadium.

Another weeks rest, it feels strange. Let's hope this actually makes a difference. Will Rashford be fit?

Away, so that means our players use the Men in Black neuralyzer to forget everything they know about playing football.

Hope they can take positives from this into the Bournemouth match

Good to get another week off.

Bournemouth's home form this season P18 W6 D4 L8 F20 A27. Their best results 1-0 win against Liverpool and draw with Newcastle. This is their final home game of the season so will likely be up for it to finish on a positive note.

Think Fred would bring us energy in midfield unlike Eriksen. Garnacho has been better this season when coming on in 2nd half but after his goal today you'd expect him to start. If Rashford's not ready then Martial.

Good thing is players have 7 days until this game, lots of time to prepare. Bournemouth are basically safe but it's their last home game of the season so they'll be up for it, won't be easy.

Away vs. bottom half team, should be okay. I expect a win, and that will be enough after Leicester beat Liverpool on Monday.

Trying to work out your logic in first names vs surnames. More defensive players = first names, attackers = surnames seems to be the pattern.

Start the exact same team unless Rashford is fit no reason to make changes as they played well today

Alejandro Garnacho Ferreyra on in the final 20 to bury them, or to start if Rashford isn't fit.

If we get through this one I'll be very confident of the final 3 points from one of Chelsea or Fulham

They have nothing to fight for, if we can't get 3 points we don't deserve to be in CL next season tbh.

Time to show some fight, esp Sancho, if he don't perform in the last 4 games we should move him on, we have enough young hungry wingers to replace him (Garnacho, Amad, Pellstri), and even Rashford can play LWF if we get a proper no.9.

Lampard won against Bournemouth away from home last week. Not too much to think we can win this?

Bournemouth are safe from relegation and nothing to play for. Hope they have checked out for the season.

This will be a big win before we have the london clubs at home.

Same XI as yesterday with Garnacho coming on much earlier around 60 mins please.

    Is Rashford back for this?

I wouldn't bet on us winning since we're away. That's my rule this past month. Reckon this complacent lot will be happy to play in 2nd gear as we are still 4 points ahead of Liverpool.

We're Jekyll and Hyde when it comes to playing home and away, so I can't even begin to predict how we'll do in this game.

Bournemouth are practically safe (it would need Leicester to win their 3 remaining games to overtake them) and they'll probably be mathematically safe by the time the game kicks off. You'd imagine that will take a bit of edge off their game but as it's their last home game they'll want to sign off on a high.

Plus 10 years on from our last league title we still seem to be everyone's f**king Cup Final when we go away from home! Hope the players don't assume Bournemouth will be taking it easy, we need to be "on it" from the start.

Said it in the Wolves thread too, I wouldn't be overly devastated if Marcus wasn't available for this one. Last number of games he's gone a bit into 2021/22 mode, trying runs down blind alleyways and shots that are not really on and then sulking when they don't come off. We just don't have room for sulkers in these last 3 games, it's roll your sleeves up time now.

Bournemouth are safe and will fancy themselves in their final home game, especially knowing Utd’s terrible away form and recent successive away defeats.
They’ll only check-out for their final away game at Everton.
If we go into this match with typical complacency, we’ll have a tough time of it.
The attitude has to be that it’s a “must win” at all costs.

Scoring continues to be our weak point. It took until injury time and a break away goal at the death, to seal that win against Wolves.

As I said weeks ago, looks like a promising season is all going to boil down to this game...

I knew we'd get maximum two points from West Ham and Brighton but I think we CAN win this one, even with our horrific away record.

Another weeks rest and preparation should do us the world of good. For all weve been critical of the players these last few weeks, the ridiculous schedule has certainly cost us at least a few points.

Surely our away form has to pick up at some point, and an away trip to bournemouth after another weeks rest seems the best chance of it happening. If we get a win here we only need one out of the last 2 to be home and dry.

If Rashford is available, I’d have him on the bench, which serves 3 purposes.
Manages his remaining playing time, before the cup final, especially as he’s coming back from injury; retains his energy as a 2nd half impact sub, when Bournemouth will be tiring, and finally, it makes him aware he’s not an automatic starter, especially after the recent drop off in performance.

Think we can get a small run going to see us through now. Tight 1-0 win.
Get it done and get us sold.

Our home form has been good, but yesterday we struggled to put the game to bed, despite dominating for most of the match.
27 shots on goal, only a third (9) on target and we only seal the victory with the 2nd goal, 4 mins into stoppage time, from a breakaway run.

Away form has been dire and we can’t score there either.
Things have to turn around for this match and it’s a must win, or we are going to need more than luck to retain that top 4 place.
Bournemouth are not going to roll over.

To be fair their GK made a couple of good saves that would have put it to bed earlier than that, Sancho and Casemiro's shots come to mind.

Feck me, waiting a full week between games is boring as shit.
I'm the opposite. Im enjoying it. There's been so much football that even I'm tired just watching it all.

Having a week to prepare for a game is a good thing in this instance too. We get to rest and train for the game rather than just doing a light recovery session post European game.
