Would have said the same about Newcastle (league cup final v random league game) but were buoyed up by their home support. United's away record against the top eight this season is what's scary.
Newcastle are fighting for top four , not really random.

what’s our away record against the top eight?
Erik needs to figure out what to do when we lock absolutely shell shocked. At those points I honestly wouldn’t mind him throwing on another defender and CDM and shutting people down

A point will be good and fine. A win would be fantastic, especially given how atrocious our away record is this season.

Same team as against Villa bar AWB for Dalot.

It will be a close game, but we can absolutely get the 3 points.

Edit: Antony for Sancho as well. Move Bruno to the left.

Take a point but those of you going overboard about Brighton thrashing us before we set foot on the pitch? They lost 3-1 at Forest.

Feels like watching the FA Cup thread all over again with everyone treating them as prime Barca.

That said I would take a draw here if offered now.

Why are people so afraid of Brighton? They're a good team and play some nice football, but we're the better team.

I'm not confident mostly because of our poor record away to teams from top side of the table. Would be happy with a draw though you always want your team to win.

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka-Lindelof-Shaw-Dalot
    Casemiro
    Bruno-Eriksen
    Antony-Martial-Rashford

I'd expect Wan Bissaka to start like in cup game. As much as players are surely tired and are playing all the time, going through this and West Ham game before they get some space for rest between matches is vital now.

And Brighton fighting for a rare European football next season is not random either

    P6 W0 D1 L5 scored 8 and conceded 23

when they thrashed us at the beginning of the season
I think you have them confused with Brentford.

We actually out played them, aside from the 9 minutes span where they scored 2 goals.

Granted it was Graham Potter's Brighton. But he also obviously faced Di Zerbi's in the FA Cup and we pretty much matched them outside out of possesion but that's how ETH setup

    De Gea
    AWB - Lindelof - Shaw - Dalot
    Casemiro - Bruno
    Antony - Sabitzer - Sancho
    Rashford

Our toughest remaining fixture, would take a draw right now. I think Eriksen could do with a rest after his lethargic performance against Villa.

A draw will be a very good result. They are a very good team and are on form too. It’ll be a very difficult away game.

I never said it was random. They were also playing for their first cup title in how long (well, trophy since 1910), to me both games seem important. The person who brought up random used it poorly and didn’t think about it.
Yeah, I like Erik but that form is terrible. I’m a little suspicious to be honest. We seem mentally easily shaken.

Saw the list of players that expired in 2024, wow is it long. Could be time for a serious rebuild. Do hope he’s here for it

I missed the game where Bruno played holding - did it work? Are we sure he doesn’t need a rest, as for Antony, not too sure what he needs besides a stern understanding, his finishing is poor. With players in the box and area he needs to be more selfless.

    Soo

    tied brentford
    Beat Bournemouth
    Lost to tottenham
    Beat a dreadful chelsea

    Lost to us
    Lost to Nottingham Forest*
Beat a very out of form Wolves
    Chelsea, Bournemouth, wolves (12,13,14)

I know we look exhausted, but been while doing so our form is better.

Now call me crazy but if Bruno needs a rest, or we want to sit wasteful Antony and play Bruno on the RW, sabitzer could play deeper but I know we prefer him advanced. Shame Garnacho is just coming back cause I’d rather see more of him for this game but let’s hope Sancho can score again.

and call me crazy but Casemiro-Maguire (or casemiro Wan Bissaka) is something I’ll get heckled for but he would really be there to break play, and he can chip in a pass. and Bissaka as well, wish Fred or McTominay could do the job but as inconsistent we’ve been they have been just as ever. If everyone is so afraid of them, not sure why, think of an extra man in midfield in exchange for Antony.

We are a better team on paper.

However, Brighton will not maintain a high-line like Villa (that we exploited in that match) and will be quite pragmatic and assertive in how they approach this as it’s a home game for them.

Whilst Casemiro was decent in the last game , Eriksen needs a rest. The problem is without him, we lack the decisive edge and vision to cut through a well organised back line.

But this is football and we have a chance as long as Fred and Maguire remain on the bench. Antony needs to play.

How do you know they will not? As far as the last 5 nonconsecutive games I saw them, they did deployed a high line. Even against us in the FA Cup tie. Martial as CF would limit how often we can find Rashford run in behind because it's more difficult angle to play the through ball. Also Brighton is better at pressing as well as recycling possession. They can slow our transition down, don't let us have much time to think. Limit our possession period.

So the question is whether we start Martial or keep playing Sancho on the left and Rashford up front. Martial does bring something else to the table, but the trade off is there.

We have played essentially the same tactics home and away in every single game under De Zerbi. It will be a carbon copy, tactically at least, of the cup semi final. This is simply objective fact. Before that game, I predicted a very close and even tie, and I’m predicting the same on Thursday. A moment of Rashford brilliance, or something special from Mitoma will very possibly decide it either way.

Some very good news for you, Pascal Groß is almost certain to play right back. Lamptey is injured and Veltman left the field in tears with what looks like a serious injury on Saturday. Groß has a great record in midfield against Manchester United, so this severely limits his potential for scoring/assisting freely.

Ferguson didn’t make the bench Saturday either and has only done very light training, so is unlikely to make the bench, let alone lead the line.

Few things in our favour. So, as usual, we’ll lose this one.

It looks like Veltman will be out which puts Gross in at right back and that nullifies his threat a bit. Ferguson hasn’t played since the Chelsea game before the FA Cup so I doubt he’ll start but might be in the bench.

Mac Allister and Caicedo didn’t start against Wolves, either did Mitoma so hopefully they’ll be rested, but Gilmour and Enciso had excellent games so it’ll be interesting to see who De Zerbi picks.

    I’d guess something like

    Steele
    Gross Dunk Colwill Estupinan
    Mac Allister Caicedo
    Enciso
    March Welbeck Mitoma

With Ferguson possibly coming on the second half.

They are a very good side, full of energy and will be there for revenge after the FA Cup.

Nevertheless, if we can maintain them at 30 meters and close the space behind Casemiro we should be fine.

In the FA Cup, I liked how we managed to create a square (1 vs 1) when they played from the back to put pressure on them, but also how tight we were when they passed this first press.

I would like a draw anyway as I think we still need to reach 72 points, so 9 more points out of 6 games to be sure of the 4th place (think Pool will win their 5 remaining games to reach 71 points). We can consider both Wolves and Fulham at home as potentially win, we would seek another 3 points against Chelsea at home, and why not B'mouth away, but one point here would be great.

    My team :

    -------------------------------------------------De Gea---------------------------------------------
    Wan Bissaka--------------Lindelof--------------Shaw-----------------------Malacia
    -----------------------------------Casemiro------------Eriksen--------------------------------
    Antony---------------------------------------Bruno---------------------------------Rashford
    --------------------------------------------------Martial----------------------------------------------

One wonders how we would cope when we face the traditional European heavyweights in the UCL next season if Brighton (as good as they are) causes this much concern. I mean I understand the concern, I feel it too.

I guess we need to start making it a habit of beating better opposition convincingly rather than with the odd goal and a generous slice of luck amidst the numerous mind numbing brain farts courtesy of DDG, Maguire or Fred.

They have beat Palace, Leicester, Wolves, WestHam, Leeds, Bournemouth at home this season. They also smashed Chelsea who are completely off the boil and Liverpool who have been shite for most of the season.
Disregarding Liverpool's sudden run of form, all of those wins are against teams in the bottom half of the table with quite a few of them in a relegation battle.
They've drew with Forest, Newcastle and Brentford at home.

Our away form doesn't look great recently, but we have just played against the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal and a now in form Liverpool whilst also having more fixtures to play than any of them.

I think we can beat Brighton, as long as we can score at least two, as they tend to score most games (only 3 games without a goal in the prem this season, with only one of these games since the turn of the year).
I'm going Brighton 1-2 Manchester United with a nervy win. My opinion is they won't have as much heart as they did in the cup game.

A win would be massive here. There a much better footballing team then us at the minute and there style of play is 100x better. A draw wouldn’t be to bad. Since this is our game in hand we need to not lose this one.

I think the idea is that we'd sign more players in the summer to bridge that gap in the summer. There would also (hopefully) be less aggravation to deal with, like CR7 and a mid season WC.

Another pre season for EtH to drill in his playing style, hopefully with more suitable players at hand.

We will get smashed a draw maximum. Rashford without a goal, Casemiro with a bad game again and a red card in the first half, DDG with two cheap goals conceded. Maguire own goal, Fernandes without an assist, Antony deffinitely won't score his "trademarrk" goal.

    jinx should be complete

Is it hipster to worry all the time about Brighton FFS people ?

The newb above me reckons we’ll get smashed and countless more agree.

Same thing was being said by many of you about Villa and we were fine.
