I never said it was random. They were also playing for their first cup title in how long (well, trophy since 1910), to me both games seem important. The person who brought up random used it poorly and didn’t think about it.
Yeah, I like Erik but that form is terrible. I’m a little suspicious to be honest. We seem mentally easily shaken.

Saw the list of players that expired in 2024, wow is it long. Could be time for a serious rebuild. Do hope he’s here for it

I missed the game where Bruno played holding - did it work? Are we sure he doesn’t need a rest, as for Antony, not too sure what he needs besides a stern understanding, his finishing is poor. With players in the box and area he needs to be more selfless.

    Soo

    tied brentford
    Beat Bournemouth
    Lost to tottenham
    Beat a dreadful chelsea

    Lost to us
    Lost to Nottingham Forest*
Beat a very out of form Wolves
    Chelsea, Bournemouth, wolves (12,13,14)

I know we look exhausted, but been while doing so our form is better.

Now call me crazy but if Bruno needs a rest, or we want to sit wasteful Antony and play Bruno on the RW, sabitzer could play deeper but I know we prefer him advanced. Shame Garnacho is just coming back cause I’d rather see more of him for this game but let’s hope Sancho can score again.

and call me crazy but Casemiro-Maguire (or casemiro Wan Bissaka) is something I’ll get heckled for but he would really be there to break play, and he can chip in a pass. and Bissaka as well, wish Fred or McTominay could do the job but as inconsistent we’ve been they have been just as ever. If everyone is so afraid of them, not sure why, think of an extra man in midfield in exchange for Antony.

    They're pretty good you know.
Pretty good yes, but it’s not as though Brighton humiliated us when we played them last…a week ago.

True, we are without both our first choice CBs and Martial has collapsed once again, but we’ve managed to grind out results and actually beat Brighton…a week ago.

Probably the only remaining game where a draw would probably be a good result.

    I think 1-1.

On penalties after a very even game, to be fair.

I know it sounds incredibly unambitious but I'd take a draw now.

Chalks off probably our most difficult remaining fixture, prevents Brighton gaining ground on us, and keeps us ticking along towards our points target.

Ten Hag has done a good job this season but we don't seem to be at that stage of our development where we can confidently go away to top half teams and win. That's the difference between being a team challenging for top 4 and a team challenging for the title.

I wouldn’t worry about us in the top 4 picture mate. It would take a bizarre turn of events to overtake you, and we have an extremely hard run-in. We’d be delighted with 6th or even 7th.

I don’t get the math here. One win and we still have five games left. If we lose every single one of those last five, we won’t get top four. Our team looks so shaky it’s about time youngsters do come in and play a part, even if just for rotation. And our lack of rotation this season has come to bite us.
I think we can hold our own but I don’t understand this post and others. Football is funny. I remember everyone slagging off arsenal last year and I thought they were a few signings away to possibly being dangerous. No one knows what could happen next couple of weeks. But boy do we need signings
Well mathematically no but I look at our form over the whole season and we are a team that grinds out results, especially at home. This next game vs Brighton is the one that I think we are most likely to lose IMO so win that and it will be a huge boost.

Also, lose all five games? What have we shown all season to suggest we’ll do that? Nothing. Yes, we’ve still had some shocking games where we’ve shown that “can’t be arsed” attitude but I take comfort in the fact that after those games we have always bounced back.

It's going to be one hell of a game to watch for neutrals also. Two sides who has to go at each other.

Just need to win either this game or the West Ham game (ideally both) and that's top 4 put to bed.

6 games left. If we win 3 we can still lose 3. Absolutely no need to worry at all

All optimism gone after reading this thread.

3-0 loss here. Messi, Pedro and David Villa all scoring.

Would love it if the team decide to show up from the off at an away game against a good team once this season. For all the progress, that's definitely been a glaring issue for us. It was such a stark contrast from the Spurs game to the Villa game where in the former most of our players couldn't make a simple 5 yard pass it seemed but, at home we were able to connect the passes with confidence.

Really think Fred or Sabitzer should start over Eriksen here, need to match their energy in midfield - have Eriksen come in to help take control later on. Outside of that, play Martial and hope Garnacho is good to go for a cameo later on.

One wonders how we would cope when we face the traditional European heavyweights in the UCL next season if Brighton (as good as they are) causes this much concern. I mean I understand the concern, I feel it too.

I guess we need to start making it a habit of beating better opposition convincingly rather than with the odd goal and a generous slice of luck amidst the numerous mind numbing brain farts courtesy of DDG, Maguire or Fred.
I'd be hoping by next season and number of good quality signings will be brought in and the most flaky players shipped out. With more strength in depth better rotation of the squad would be done and have better luck with injuries and many starters wouldn't be running on empty after a hectic season.

Next year ** hopefully ** we'll have a different set of players.
I would expect to see ETH play different tactics when we have better players.
Our attacking options are abysmal at the minute

A very fair point, but it's also fair to assume that every single opponent in the PL can take points of us. Southampton, almost sure to be relegated now, held us to a 0-0 draw (the Casemiro straight red...this one for the hard tackle) this season.

    Looking at the remaining fixtures:

    Brighton away
    West Ham away
    Wolves OT
    Bournemouth away
    Chelsea OT
    Fulham OT

Apart from the possibility of Fulham, when it's very likely that neither side will need points, none of those matches are two-foot putts. We know all about Brighton, West Ham are not easily beaten, Wolves comes the closest to a two-foot putt but they always seem to raise their game for us, Bournemouth away you'd think we can walk all over but let's not be too sure about that. Chelsea are a mess, but it's Chelsea and we rarely mow them down.

I will take a drew and hope that no one else gets injury
    Leave drew alone !

So did mine when I wrote it. But a defender in midfield has worked before.

I didn’t say we will, but to imagine one more win wraps up top four is insane. It’s too close

I agree. We'd need at least 3 (possibly more) proper squad options coming in for things to change in the space of one transfer window.

Well at least we know Shaw will probably occupy the left CB role and Maguire will be on the bench for this game

I think we'll get something from this it has got 0-0 written all over it, Andre Marriner is the ref though so Casemiro will need to be careful he dosnt get sent off and if he does he'll be suspended for the rest of the season.

0-0 is about the last result it will be

They've had our number in the league a fair bit of late, especially at theirs. Needs putting right.

Play as much as same line-up to one which lost at home in August 2022. Our own revenge.

Hope we get a 3-1away win. Rashford, Bruno, Casemiro
