I'm supposed to be working tonight, but I'm thinking about taking the night off to watch the game. If we win, we go top of the table and I would be ecstatic, but I don't trust United. If we lose after I've taken time off I'm going to be in the pits and suffering from PTSD

I would be overjoyed at a relaxing 2-0 victory. I just want a no nonsense stress free evening.
Would be lovely,.but you know we'll concede a ridiculous goal of the sort that only United concede, inside the first 5 minutes. Then we'll huff and puff and may or may not snatch a win. :houllier:

I suppose luckily football doesn't work like that, but it's ab interesting question the more you think about it.

Anything other than 3 points tonight in isolation is going to be hugely frustrating...but that's a pretty obvious statement

Set pieces, as always, worry me
We aren't 'that' good. So I fully expect a poor run of 4/5 games like Spurs/Chelsea have had at some point in the not to distant future.

I expect a top 4 fight with us hopefully within touching distance of the top into the spring (then who knows).

Let's hope the drop off is not this week with those bastards on Sunday,

There's a few players that I think could really make this game more of a slog than it needs to be if we get our selection wrong tonight:

Dan James - Doesn't get his head up at the best of times, would be useless against Burnley's low block

McTominay - Generally feel he's much better in games where we have to do more running. Whether that's covering ground defensively when we sit a little deeper, or in frantic games where he has more room to break forward like the Leeds game.

Telles - Weird one... I like him but I feel like he tries to play the ball in to the forwards far too quickly in the buildup. That's fine when you're high up the pitch, but he seems to do it constantly from within our own half. We end up turning over possesion too quickly.

    De Gea

    Shaw
    Lindelof/Bailly
    Maguire
    AWB

    Fred
    VdB (A man can dream...)
    Bruno

    Martial
    Cavani
    Rashford

I'd like to see this lineup and I think we probably will, bar McTominay.

Oh I do too, and you're right...we are not so good that anyone shouldn't expect that will happen at some point.

I think the City game in the Cup was a timely reminder that there is a gap in quality. As you say, this week is not the week for that to happen hopefully.

Would love this team, but apparently Lindelof and Shaw are out. We should go Telles and Tuanzebe and have Bailly fit for Liverpool.

much like wolves they’re a crappy, defensive, negative team.

Unless we blow them away in the first 25mins This is destined to be a scrap.

You wouldn't prefer being 2-0 down to the mighty Burnley at half-time, only to make a dramatic second-half comeback, grabbing a 94th-minute winner to send us 3 points clear at the top?

You fear for your heart? Meh, heart's are overrated.

I'd agree with Matic only, not Fred/Matic. Doesnt offer anything FredMcT doesnt because Matic drops too deep, as does Fred often. Against a low block you need a player than will break into the box. Only McT does that out of the 3. Matic/McT is better. Id just go Matic only to be honest. Give VDB and Pogba a go just ahead.
Fair point, McTominay at least does at least have a fairly decent shot on him. Just hoping he gets into those positions more. Ideally in a game like this, I agree, why not play Van de Beek. They'll be sitting back.

Go to work or don't go to work but you'll be annoyed if United lose even if you don't watch it and if we win you'll be happy even if you don't.

They've only scored 9 goals this season. 9. That's appalling. If we're on form we should be winning well. Last 7 years have done a number of my confidence
I thought you must have had the wrong stats and had to double check this, wow. That is hideous. Scored 9, conceded 20 in 15 games.

I hope Ole really fires the lads up for this one, no fecking slow start and sloppy nonsense, get feckin after them from the first second and run your guts out!!

They will sit in, movement and quick tempo to the passing.

These are obvious things but sometimes the team starts games with none of the above.

Has anyone else noticed how, as time has passed, that game has become more and more one sided in people's memory?

I thought I watched a fairly even game which we lost because of two bits of rubbish set-piece defending. I definitely didn't see a game with a huge gulf between the sides.

Not that I'm saying I'm not bricking it about this game, the next game, and pretty much every game we play still.

It's a different kind of pain when you actually take time off to watch it and it ends up being a wreck. I feel the same when I go to OT and we lose. It hurts more than watching a loss on the TV. Your legs feel extra heavy on the way back home after a loss.

I've decided not to take time off. I'm working from home so I was going to watch it either way, it's just I might have to step out every 15 minutes or so rather than attentively watching the full 90.

Hoping for a win. I need that.

I'm a bit sad lately, a close friend and mentor of mine died of Covid and was buried on Sunday, the entire immediate family couldn't go as they all have Covid as well. :(

Need to get my mind of things and hope this game can do just that.

Really tough to predict how this one is going to go tonight. They actually had a pretty decent December. Draws with Everton & Villa, and won against Arsenal & Wolves. 10 points from the last 15 which is only bettered by 3 clubs in the league, and they will be fresh having had their last league game postponed. Those are concerning statistics.

However, they don't score goals. 9 all season. They don't concede many either though. I'd be very surprised if Cavani doesn't start tonight. His presence and movement will be needed against a solid defence. If we score early I think we stroll to victory and have an easy night. If its still level at half-time then we'll have a fight on our hands for the points.

I agree. Its a City thing. Lots of possession and pretty triangles give off an impression of dominance, but they didnt actually hurt us too often. We had a very poor evening offensively.

The only position in the team I'm not sure about is whether it'll be Matic or McTominay with Fred.

There's no way Diallo will feature in this game, in fact, I doubt he will even feature at all this season in the first team!
One for the future definitely. But he may come through sooner than we expect. Depends how he performs in training.

We’re winning obviously but I really hate to watch this Burnley team. Even the games against Wolves are more fun to watch.
