Burnley Football Club (nicknamed The Clarets), is a professional association football club based in Burnley, Lancashire. On 18 May 1882, The club was founded on On 18 May 1882, when Burnley Rovers Football Club decided to shift their allegiance from rugby union to football. Playing in various green or blue and white kits for their first few years, the club played their first competitive game in October 1882 against Astley Bridge in the Lancashire Challenge Cup, that game ending in an 8–0 defeat. In the early months of 1883 the club moved to Turf Moor and remain there, only their Lancashire rivals Preston North End having occupied the same ground continuously for longer. Burnley first appeared in the FA Cup in 1885–86 but were ignominiously beaten 11–0 when eligibility restrictions meant that their reserve side had to be fielded against Darwen Old Wanderers. On 13 October 1886, Turf Moor became the first ground to be visited by a member of a (British) Royal Family. When it was decided to found the Football League for the 1888–89 season, Burnley were among the 12 founders of that competition.

The club enjoyed its Golden days as one of the most progressive clubs around in the 1950s to the early 1970s under the reign of chairman Bob Lord. They were one of the first teams to build a training ground next to the stadium, while every other team still trained in their own stadium, and the Turf Moor club used innovative training methods. Among other things, this resulted in an excellent youth team. Nearly all members of the 1959–60 Division 1 winning team had played in the Burnley youth team. Lord also pioneered the short-lived 'Football Specials'. The Clarets were also the first to let a manager decide about the transfer policy. After the 1959–60 title winning season finished, Burnley went to the United States to participate in the inaugural international football tournament in North-America, the International Soccer League. The following season Burnley played in European competition for the first time. Burnley's biggest traditional rivals are Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers with the match between Burnley and Blackburn sometimes called The Cotton Mills Derby. Burnley play their home games at Turf Moor.

Need to shake this off, least it can't go to pens.

2-0 let's just win and go from there - don't think it's the first time I'm saying that this season :(

Our players will be tired for this match as they worked hard for 45 minutes.
I can't see us winning this match.

De Gea will come back in. Maybe Telles for Shaw and Fred for McT?

No goals or maybe 1 goal in the match. Not sure to which side. We may win, lose or draw but we’ll surely be terrible on the pitch. Players will moan about missed passes (not chances, as we won’t have many). The fans will start questioning the players, the manager and the board. Depressing stuff

We usually struggle against Burnley at home, while beating them comfortably at Turf Moor. Beat them this season at Old Trafford already so hope there's no reverse logic this time. Need those 3 points. Hopefully Cavani will be ready to come back.

I’d say rotate but with who? The steaming pile of shit from Bradford was a sad shock to everyone but the other outgoings were a bit mystifying since no one was brought in. Hopefully Cavani and Lingard are back in the squad and our midfield will be absolutely stretched now. Well done, great planning, bravo.

I think this is our best line up if Matic gets subbed after 60 minutes.

Ronaldo had a shocker, but I'd go with him again. I don't think he's been as bad as people claim in the previous games where he got very little service (unlike yesterday). Just sub him off if he's shit again.

Hopefully we'll have some big guns on the bench (Cavani, Lingard, Rashy)

And they're very lacklustre. Watch them turn up as world beaters on Tuesday.
    This is a common line.

We make these teams look brilliant by being fecking shit ourselves. They don't need to be world beaters or even great to take points off us.

Imagine hating Maguire that much you'd rather pick Phil Jones. Dear god.

We’re going to play like we played yesterday, but get the finishes that we’re missing. They will have hurt pride and be feeling harshly done by after the handball call. I hope RR fosters a us vs the world siege mentality. Fight our way through the rest of the season for the best possible finish, and a CL win. Obvs

If we were to judge based on our last performance, finishing aside we were far from being shit. I think we will batter them. The lads will be expected to bounce back from that nightmare. 4-0 United

Sometimes you have games where everything that goes wrong goes wrong. We battered Boro, played well and deserved to win. A combination of poor finishing (Ronaldo is lacking confidence due to not scoring a goal for ages the best strikers go through it he needs a goal to get him going again) bad luck with the handball goal and fatigue because of the lack of options on the bench (thank Lingard and Cavani for that) all contributed to a loss. It was the perfect storm for Middlesborough that if you replayed that goal 10 times Boro would probably win 1

I'd play the same starting team with minimal changes because I think they are getting rhythm and slowly getting better. Sometimes you have to take a step back to take a few steps forward

    4-0 United

United. United we lose together and United we win together. United through the bad times and good.

Think we’ll slightly play with less confidence due to the boro disappointment but we’ll show up in second half and finish the match.

    Cavani for ronaldo
    Elanga for rashford

.. and we’re good enough to beat these.

More professional discipline than what we saw against boro is required if we are to take three points off Burnley.

    Dalot Varane Maguire Telles
    Fred
    Pogba Fernandes
    Sancho Cavani Rashford

    1. Would rest Ronnie for the Weekend and bring him on as an impact sub in this.
    2. Shaw or Telles is a though one. Went for Telles as he has shown a bit of form lately
    3. Let Rashford and Sancho interchange positions
