Honestly can't see us getting a result in the BPL with 352 unless we out score the poor opposition.

3-0 us, players finally coming back spurred on with the arrival of Di Maria. (of course this isn't with 352)

As I said after Sunderland, the most important thing is that we get back to moving the ball with some control and pace and on the ground. So, for me that means 4 at the back and this XI right now:

    ------Rooney/RVP----------
    ----------Kagawa----Mata
    --Di Maria-----Herrera--
    -------Fletcher----------
    James--------------Rafael
    ----Rojo-----Jones------
    ---------De Gea----------

with Di Maria's pace providing us left-sided width. At least this team should be able to pass and move a bit.

If Herrera, Di maria and Rojo play we will win. I'd prefer Di Maria on the wing though and Mata in attacking midfield with Rooney or RVP upfront. We'll have to play Fletcher next to Herrera until Carrick comes back and hope he has a good game.

Going for a 3-0 United, if we have injured players back.

    De Gea
    Rafael Jones Blackett Rojo
    Fletcher Herrera
    Januzaj Rooney Di Maria
    Van Persie

Think we'll play this. Well balanced, plenty of pace and power, and they all do their share of defensive work. Sorry Mata but we can't afford luxury players at this moment in time.
I sure as hell hope Herrera is back though. We need him.

With the hope we don't play 352, who exactly have we fit? are the bold?

Tbh I think Januzaj and Evans deserves to be dropped after the game against MK Dons.

    1.
    ............De Gea
    Rafael...Jones..Rojo..Shaw
    ......Herrera...Fletcher
    Di Maria...Mata...Rooney
    .............RVP

    2.
    ............De Gea
    Rafael...Jones..Rojo..Shaw
    ...........Fletcher
    ......Mata......Herrera
    Di Maria...RVP...Rooney.

    It's time for 4-3-3 I think

    ------------ de Gea ------------
    -Rafael -- Jones - Rojo -- Shaw -
    ------------ Fletcher -----------
    ------ Herrera ----- Di Maria ----
    Rooney ------- RvP ------- Mata

Because of our shitty midfield, this is my lineup:

    de Gea
    Rafael - Jones - Blackett - Rojo
    Rooney - Herrera
di Maria - Mata - Januzaj
    van Persie

Bench: Amos, Evans, Valencia, Pereira (he did a good effort and showed some good work rate), Anderson, Welbeck, Wilson.

No Fletcher, No Cleverley, No Young, No Smalling.

If all the centre backs are fit and available (Rojo, Evans, Smalling, Blackett) maybe Jones can be moved into midfield to partner Herrera. Or even a 433 with Di Maria as the other mid.

can we just not use central midfielders it cant be any worse than what we see now.

Find a formation with fellaini in midfield by himself and we just punt it forward to him to lay off to like 6 attacking players. Genuinely it cant get any worse, is hererra back yet:nervous:

Amazing how desperate we already are for a win...and it is far from certain against a newly promoted side...

Even with all the quality we will have back, there is nothing giving me confidence of a result going into this. There will come a time when we get it together but nothing suggests it will be this week. Especially at Burnley, it's one of the grounds I picked we would lose at when I saw they got promoted.

    ------------DDG--------------
    ----Keane--Jones---Blackett-
    Young---Herrera--Fletcher---Rojo
    -----Mata-----------Di Maria----
    ------------Rooney--------------

Bench: RVP, Welbeck, Januzaj, Cleverley, Evans, Rafael, Lindegaard

That is the way I'd go

I'll explain a couple of my choices:

Defense: I prefer to play these 3 as they were solid versus Sunderland and all 3 have played alot on preseason so they are already used at playing together and will have the best game rhythm. Evans looked off versus Dons, been out for a while and needs time to get back into form. Playing Rojo centrally only makes sense if it is on Blacketts position and right now I think Blackett is the better option as he is better aquinted with the role and with his teammates already than Rojo. On top of that I think apart from the first game against swans were he looked a little nervous Blackett has been our best defender so just dropping him would seem a little bit unfair to me and not wise. I'd prefer Rojo to play wingback, he'll provide us with a better defensive cover than if we used the combination Young, Valencia and he is used at playing in tandem with Di Maria on that left side. Young at the moment seems the best call for rightwingback.

Midfield: Not much choice here, if Herrera is fit he needs to start, Fletcher will get a chance over Cleverley as he looked good in the USA and that game versus Sunderland could maybay be considered as just having a bad day, whilst Cleverley has consistently underperformed, even in the USA.

Attack: I'd prefer to brake up the strikership between Rooney and RVp and transform to a 3-4-3. We will have Di Maria to provide width and I think Mata is the best player we have for the other flank. Januzaj can be brought in if Mata on the flank doesn't work in this system. I prefer to play Rooney over RVP as the latter just didn't look fit yet. He'd be a good shout as an impact sub for that game, but as a starter I'd go with Rooney, as I also don't want to risk injurring RVP when he is not a 100% matchfit.

No idea what the team will be with fitness doubts, new players etc.
But I hope Wilson and Pereira make the bench.

Shaw and Herrea both still out I'm assuming? Must get 3 points by any means necessary and hopefully have a new CM along with some of the injuries back after the break. Anything other than 3 points is a fairly disastrous.

I think we will win Rojo, Di Maria and Herrera be back and after tonight I can't wait to see Blackett and Jones back. If we don't win this then the shit really hits the fan, hopefully we have another CM and CB by then. I predict 1-3 Di Maria and RVP(2)

Herrera was training this week so he should be back but maybe too soon for Shaw

Would absolutely love to see this team:

    de Gea
    Shaw Rojo Jones Rafael
    Welbeck Herrera
    Mata
    Rooney-----------Di Maria
    RVP

Subs: Amos, Januzaj, Smalling, Carrick, Powell/Pereira, Wilson, Evans. - lets look to the future
Playing this team has many benefits IMO:

    1) Defence looks more solid, with 4 at the back we would hopefully be able to start off some kind of rhythm as to our starting 4 every game. - Something which we lacked last year and seem to be finding trouble with this season, too. Rojo and Jones would be solid enough, and with Shaw and Rafael playing as attacking full-backs instead of wing-backs it gives us that extra defensive cover, also.

    2) Welbeck is happy - or so I hope. Playing Danny in a Box-to-Box kind of roll has a couple of benefits - he is fast so definitely has the legs for it, he is great at holding up play, good on the ball, good at winning the ball back and is a determined individual too. His passing could do with some work, but the combined benefits of keeping him happy in a roll that he could grow into under LVG and keeping Fletch & Cleverley our of our team - who at the moment are playing terribly, it would be well worth it.

    3) We have pace - Both Danny and di Maria possess great acceleration and overall speed. We have been moaning about how immobile and slow we look in our build-up play. However, with this formation we would see pace coming from both the midfield and attack due to Welbeck and di Maria respectively. Not only would this make teams more scared of us again, but it would also contribute to the defensive side of our game, too, as both players are hard workers who can win the ball back and keep up with an opponent on the counter.

    4) The team is fairly young - only Rooney and Rvp are over 26 years old and therefore we can grow as a unit as opposed to placing older players such as Young, Valencia and Fletcher in our team. Wilson on the bench will eventually replace RVP come 2016 or so, while Januzaj should be competing with Rooney for his spot in the above lineup already IMO.

Misc benefits) - 4 english players for those of you who like that, de Gea more comfortable having a settled back 4 in front of him, plays to our players strengths, attacking lineup and formation, frees up more space for Wilson to take over from RVP as our starting striker (as Rooney, Rvp & Welbeck already in team - therefore moving him up pecking order), van Gaal and players already very familiar with 4-3-3, meaning an improvement in results would be likely.

    ----

Weaknesses) - Such an attacking lineup poses defensive vulnerabilities but as stated above, team is full of hard workers a couple of which who are lightning quick, too. - This is bolded because our team already has defensive vulnerabilities, and admittedly, this is a concern. I do, however, believe LVG could work something out.

Rooney is out wide which we all know, isn't perhaps the best of ideas. However we have Januzaj if his form starts to dip, or we could always put him up top and sub Rvp for Januzaj too. Essentially we have options - which is imperative.

Welbeck would also take time to accustom himself into a CM Box-to-Box roll, but with Fletch and Cleverley playing so badly at the mo, I doubt he would be much worse.

Some of you, I completely understand will think the idea of Welbz in CM is ludicrous, but weirder things have happened and I reckon it would be a pleasant surprise if utilised.

Edit: just realised Shaw is still injured - think of this for the long-term.

Jeez... it's only the third game into the new season and i already feel it's a must win. A victory first and foremost but a proper performance and convincing scoreline is something we badly need to go with it, the confidence is shattered atm and needs repairing sharpish.

I'd rather play 4-4-2 than 3-5-2 again if we are to fit RvP & Rooney into one team, at least drop Mata.

Impossibly obvious that we're going to lose this one.

A pumped up home crowd, buoyed by being back in the Premier League, team full of players playing out of their skins because it's Manchester United and our players bereft of confidence and mostly shite anyway.

Just a matter of how many chances they can put away.

I think we'll win. That said, I also think we'll play 3-5-2 with Di Maria in midfield, so what do I know?

Right now though I'm really glad we have an easy run of fixtures to start the season. I'd hate to see the mauling we'd get from a top side atm.

Put Jones in midfield if we are going 4 at the back or have 3 other defenders available.

Extra protection for the defense + More energy and mobility/bite there atleast.

I can understand why we are in such bad form to a point. The squad know that Van Gaal is looking to offload a lot of them and bring in his players. Which is what needs to be done, however some of them players are still getting game time and their head is not in it.
Simply put , the fact that the transfer business (buying and selling) was not finished by the start of the league is the issue.

I'd like to see something like this. Effectively 4-3-3 but the wingers either side of the striker wouldn't really be wingers, more attacking midfielders in a slightly more central role (with the midfield 3 playing deeper). This may not work but it'd be an excellent way to fit in as many class players as we can, rotating RVP, Rooney and Mata accordingly from time to time.

Powell is only there because he was semi decent today (still pretty crap) and I can't think of any one else. I don't want to see Cleverley play - I actually want to enjoy watching it.

Rojo at left back in a 4 man defence may not work either, but again I can't think of anyone else!

Goodnight Di Maria would play? It is a fantastic top player and help the united back to being an elite club.
I'm from Spain and my English is very bad so I use google translator, greetings.

To avoid relegation, I think we absolutely, 100% must draw this one. Burnley are hard favorites, but I think we can pull the rug out from underneath them and hang on to a 0-0. Games like this are crucial to us if we wanna pull off that great escape.
