Chelsea Football Club (also known as The Blues and The Pensioners) are a professional football club based in Fulham, London. Chelsea were founded on 10 March 1905 at The Rising Sun pub (now The Butcher's Hook) after Gus Mears had previously acquired the Stamford Bridge athletics stadium with the aim of turning it into a football ground. Since there was already a team named Fulham in the borough, the name of the adjacent borough, the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea, was settled on. Chelsea's first major title success came in the form of the League Cup with the appointment of former Arsenal player, Ted Drake, who also led Chelsea to the their first ever League title, enabling them to compete in the European Cup, but after objections from The Football League and the FA, Chelsea were persuaded to withdraw from the competition before it started - allowing Matt Busby's Manchester United to start their illustrious adventure with the competition.

After decades of being non-competitors, Chelsea returned to the domestic title fore in 2003 under new owner Roman Abramovich, who fueled an unprecedented spending spree - starting in the mid 2000s. Since the takeover, Chelsea won 2 Champions League titles, 5 Premier League titles, 5 FA Cup titles, 2 Europa League titles and 3 League Cup titles. On 10 March 2022, the British government announced sanctions on Abramovich with Chelsea allowed to operate under a special license until 31 May. Subsequently, Chelsea confirmed that terms had been agreed for a new ownership group, led by Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss, to acquire the club. On 30 May 2022, the sale was completed, ending Abramovich's 19 year ownership of the club. Chelsea's most prominent rivalries include local clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, title rivals Manchester United, Liverpool and Leeds United. Chelsea play their home games at Stamford Bridge — which had been their home for over a century.

    Familar Faces

Chelsea seem improved from last season, even though they’re still in mid table, and have actually been unlucky in many of their games against other big sides.

I’m going for a draw here at best.

Based on today we need a lot of changes

    Onana

    Dalot
    Varane (if fit)
    Martinez (if fit)
    Don't care

    Casemiro
    Mainoo
    Mount

    Garnacho
    Amad
    Hojlund

Would almost be tempted to stick Martínez at LB. AWB is painful to watch play on his weaker side.

    Onana
    Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Martinez
    Casemiro - Mainoo
    Garnacho - Bruno - Mount
    Hojlund

Battle of the under fire managers. If Erik loses the next couple of matches I think he'll be out of a job. I really hope the recently linked managers are nowhere near being targeted by INEOS or their people.

You know the old saying about unstoppable forces vs immovable objects? This feels like the opposite of that. Like mushing jelly and warm butter together or something.

I don't know what's going to happen, but I don't think anyone is going to like it and just thinking about it is making me feel a little sick.

Hard to be positive after what we watched tonight but Poch Chelsea are bang average and will add to the frustration if points are dropped against them.

Only useful things we can still do this season is maybe somehow get a point vs Liverpool and beat Coventry in the cup. This game is between team that can't reach top 4/5 so more about managers under pressure.

Brace yourself for Chelsea finding us a far easier task than Burnley with 10 men.

One of these days we're due a heavy defeat due to the sheer number of chances we give up. Wouldn't surprise me if Chelsea do it.

The xG metric will officially explode watching this game.

Can see the headlines for this game… which under fire manager comes out on top…. My answer would be none. This will be a draw.

The expensive tat in red will make the expensive tat blue look better. Cold Palmer to kill us off.

Chelsea are the opposite to United. Actually play some decent stuff but don’t get the results. Based on xg, they’d be on 47 points and we’d be on 36.

After the horror show yesterday, we can’t be any worse. Think we might get a 1-1 here.

Bit of an irrelevance now, considering top 5 chances are gone. Who cares about 6th or 7th or 8th.

I'd get the kids in and give them same game time and let some of the seniors stew before the semifinal..

Ah yes, the xG champs

Outside of the relegation candidates, the two worst teams in the league. An utterly awful goalless draw, or a goal bonanza draw, or a total humiliation to either side. Or anything in between. Who the feck knows?

Is it wrong at this point to be hoping for two losses?

I just want the stuborn fecker gone from our club. It was obvious game 1 back in august that his system had massive flaws.

I don’t care about his excuses. You play the best way you can with the players you have. He has pissed away a season.

I agree with your first point, on the latter I think Erik has already defended the players to the hilt and will go down with that ship. He probably lost half the dressing room early in the season, and I'd argue it was to do with cliques and the club's utter incompetence in getting players out the door last summer and still briefing two or three times a list of players that were for sale and the desired price they wanted. That can't be good for morale to then have all those unhappy players. Once the injury crisis went into overdrive he has defended the players at every opportunity as he probably knows he can't afford to lose more influence, given the meagre options. The veiled criticism he offers is that if players hadn't been injured our style of play wouldn't suffer and results would have been better.

I was on his side for the longest time, first because I believed, then because I wanted to believe, lastly because I am so tired of most of the players. I think he's lost it now. My hope is that regardless of who comes in, this squad will be savaged in the summer.

Only a hipster or a Liverpool fan cares about an alternative table

Expecting a loss but then another decent result v Pool.

They haven’t beat us in the league since 2017. Should be an easy win but the way we’re playing we could easily get battered
