I really like Juan Mata but I'm increasingly baffled how three separate managers have now considered him a right winger. It's just bizarre.

Hopefully Bruno and Mata click like they did away at Newcastle. Good to see Rashford back on the left. Amazed there’s no Greenwood on the bench.

How could he continue starting Mata over Greenwood? Isn’t it a sign of low managerial IQ?

They don't. It's scarcity of options.

Mata starting is a mad call. Just like James starting versus Chelsea was.

Ole selections is where he has been killing himself this season

Obviously he needs a bit of time to build his fitness back up.
Did he actually have it or just a positive test? Looked like he was training anyway, tbh half fit his technique offers more than any one on the bench.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I'd have started with cavani in a front three today. Use martial and rashford to push their full backs back. Be brave. What do I know I'm just an electrician . Id rather see us be brave and lose than sit on the counter and hope for a smash and grab.

All these “great to see Pogba dropped” comments, whilst Mata starts.

    Interesting...

Should have thrown Cavani in from the start - we need more muscle up front - we gonna get bossed in the middle today....surely VdB could have played on the right instead of Mata?

I'd have rather this than Mata, but Ole is never going to be brave and take a risk like that. He knows his jobs on the line.

Would have preferred Greenwood as a bench option rather than James.
Could have been interesting seeing Cavani as the starting striker in this match.

Back to full defence mode with Fred and McTominay. Need to cover for Maguire's lack of ability.

    England:
Fred and McTominay in over VDB :(

Mata still starting games for us :(

We’ll struggle with that lineup. He only has himself to blame if he does get sacked.

If we try to play out from the back today we will get punished. We need to go direct into the channels and use the pace in behind. We need Andy Cole level hold up from Antony Martial today.

Another game of Mata and AWB on the right. Can't defend OGS no more, it's fecking ridiculous.

How ironic that the last time we played there we got pumped and Ole stated some of this team have played their final game for the club a year on and it could be someones final game in charge , fate a cruel master

Who would you put there instead?
I would either put Rashford or Martial out there and start with Cavani through the middle. Or Fernandes as a false 9 and Rashford or Martial RF interchanging. VDB should be starting ahead of Fernandes on current form regardless of formations. Mata had one decent game a few weeks ago and suddenly he’s starting in must win games when he played poor midweek and lost out in a race which lead to us conceding.
I personally love Mata, great servant to the club and a very tidy player, but he shouldn’t be starting over VDK or Pogba.

We have no right winger. Greenwood is barely one, but can fill in as a forward. But with him out there is literally no option other than going lack of class (James) or class on the ball, but zero mobility or speed (Mata)

Yeah do we think there is an issue there or a genuine injury picked up

Who would you play on the right though? The only other option is to play a diamond which we can barely manage either.

    Team is fine tbh.

Donny (for now is not a seen as a starter)
    Pogba is in terrible form
    Mason is having issues (obviously)

So what you have left is totally understandable.

would have liked to see VDB as one of the midfielders and Cavani as the striker with Rashford on the right.

Might win this solely because we’re away and we’re set up in his ideal formation.

No Greenwood is weird, though. Hope it isn’t injury, but I also hope it’s not another disciplinary issue!

Where is Greenwood? Rashford, Martial and Mata as attackers is boring.

Well there is a few other options. Cavani up front and Marcus on the RW would probably do a better job. And he'd protect AWB more which will be important with how Digne gets forward.

Mata was beyond awful during the week too. I like the guy but he shouldn't even be at the club anymore.

Expect us to be on the backfoot for most of the game with the Fred and McT pairing.

I had Cavani for Greenwood too!
