Why does everyone want to play a back 5 now against Istanbul ffs?

I thought the issue was we lacked fluidity and creativity, playing another CB won’t help.

Either we’ll lose this, or win and lose to Everton next weekend.

There’s no chance that we’ll win both this game and the Everton game. We’re Manchester United, disappointment and mediocrity is our game.

At least until it’s dead rubber, then second stringers can get participation points.
Personally I prefer to play the long game, in response to this expected fatigue-inducing season.

Playing second stringers, rotate well early so hopefully we get many players back to their best forms a.s.a.p. from real games since our trainings are unreliable. Would also contribute to competition of places which helps. It's better on the long run.

Plus, don't see why we should be so scared of Istanbul, just as we shouldn't previously vs RBL which oddly many fans do. If it's vs PSG again, then definitely bring out all your best guns. Against the weaker actually shit teams though why bother too much? We need to consider improving our shit PL form as well. Imo PL is more important than CL to be honest.

No clue about the system but personnel wise Ole is fairly predictable.

Don’t disagree with rotation for freshness, but that doesn’t hold too much with GKs. By definition, the GK position will always have biggest disparity vis à vis starts between the GK1 & GK2 as there’s more credence & intelligence in keeping your GK1 fresh & on point mentally than there is gifting unnecessary games to your GK2. This had to have been made clear to Henderson & his camp before him coming back; if it wasn’t, then we are in a more shambolic back office perspective than we know. It also should have been made clear that, minus any calamities or injuries befalling DDG, there would have been a finite number of matches that Henderson would be starting.

Another reason I don’t think (& hopefully the club agrees) that Henderson shouldn’t play until dead rubbers is: imagine putting DH in goal for the away match & he shits the bed & we lose due to him. Then, DDG is reinstalled for the fourth match. Now you potentially have two keepers mentally challenged going forward for what, participation points? Let’s ride DDG’s success so far this year two more games in the CL, then we can give the matches to the second string goalkeeper.

I agree we need to focus on the PL, but removing DDG for no reason other than to give Henderson game time isn’t fair to either especially at this early stage in the season. If we are still below tenth after fifteen more PL matches, then there’s a valid argument for Henderson getting more PL game time.

WHY do people put Dean Henderson as the starting Goalkeeper for this games?

Fecking hell. Perhaps if we have already qualified for the KO stage he might get a game, but not before then.
He's a top quality keeper, why shouldn't people want to see him play?

If they have any clue about us, they should sit back, congest space in midfield and watch us flounder about cluelessly.

If Erdogan decides his favourite team must always play positive, proactive football, we'll slaughter them though.

Can we not show our idiocy in this thread? Please no ‘Henderson in’ lunacy. We’re not giving out participation medals, why would we drop perhaps our most consistent player so far this year?

Let’s qualify for the knockout round then focus on second string players.

We’ve royally fecked up the Premier League, let’s not feck up the Champions League just to get someone game time.
Henderson should play this. We can’t have two great keepers and expect one never to get a game. Henderson played well in the last game and will expect opportunities. I’d play him 100% in this one.

If we play this fecking diamond bullshit again, please let's not have 2 defensive midfielders in there. The whole point of it should be to maximise the creativity from the centre of the park so squeezing in 3 of e.g. Bruno, Pogba, VdB, Mata. If we want to play 2 DMs then stick with 3 midfielders and get an extra forward in.

Everton at the weekend has become must win. If we don’t it’s hard to see how Ole can stay.

    I would rotate here.

    Henderson
    Axel - Maguire - Lindelof
    Williams - Donny - McTominay - Shaw
    Mata
    Cavani - Martial
I see the board pulling the trigger personally. Cue the welcome to Manchester United pochettino YouTube videos.

The Everton game is midday on Saturday which is ridiculous.

    ——————————DDG———————————
    William-Maguire-Lindelof—Tuanzebe-Telles
    ——————————————Matic——————
    —————Van De Beek————————————
    ————————————-—Pogba———————
    —————Cavani———————————————
    ————————-—————Martial——————-

bring Martial, Matic and VDB off to keep them somewhat fresh for everton.

Fred, Mctominay, Bruno, Greenwood, Martial and rashford against Everton, 4231.

We need a win before the break.

    And this was the problem.

A diamond with 2 CDM makes it a 4222 not a diamond. Our players like Fred & Mctomminay didnt get forward enough and helped only in deeper positions.

But against Leipzig Fred was on the right of the diamond and that worked because he’s better in tight spaces and a bit more forward thinking than Mctominay.

I've never heard of this team before. When did they become one of the CL teams in Turkey?

Shame we won't see Telles here, but on the flip side, we should be able to call on a back 4 of players that haven't been away after the international break. For this game, even a grinding win or draw will do. Everton on Saturday is so much more important - make or break for Ole and our season.

Not a must win game thanks to the previous results against Leipzig & PSG. A draw would be okay, but they aren't a good side. They have lost 5 times already this season. Everton is the more important game. We have very little time between this and a Saturday morning kickoff against Everton. I would even consider leaving Bruno and Rashford in Manchester.

A win is far from guaranteed, but I would still probably rest some key players for this one. It's a long flight and games are piling up. We need to get back on track in the PL.

They won The Süper Lig last season and have only emerged recently. We would have played them in last season's Europa League QF had they beaten Copenhagen.

They were a squad made up of lots of ex PL players last season. Clichy, Skrtel, Inler, Elia, Demba Ba, etc. Robinho was there last season as well. Most of them have been released or moved on this season.

Rafael signed for them this season.

Absolutely. Everton is a must win game. This isn't. Even with some rotation, we should be leaving Turkey with at least a point.

I’ve included him in mine...only because I’d rather he play this game than against Everton though.
Should start neither. Let him rot on the bench until he either leaves or decides to roll up his sleeves and put in a proper shift (whichever comes first).

Whilst I don’t disagree, it’s just not going to happen. Therefore, I’d play him in this and bring someone like Matic in to play alongside Fred against Everton.

Any formation that provides width! Seeing Shaw and AWB as our only outlet in wide areas is depressing
