Based off the Everton game, I'm expecting a somewhat dull 1-1 draw and penalties. Hopefully I'll be proved wrong.

Would like to see Ibra, Martial, Rooney and Miki continuing to improve their inter-play.
actually based on that game, if Mou doesn't feel the need to give all players game times then I can see goals from us. We were threatening in the first half and had a well organised Everton pinned back. We had chances and there was this sense that we could always score anytime.

Due to changes in the second half with most players being replaced things changed a lot and that was that.

This one is six sub max so there will be more fluidity, but I think we will definitely make all 6 changes. The starting 11 I am pretty confident will be the same one we start against Bournemouth .

I can't believe I'm saying this again post-LVG but I seriously hope Rooney does not start tomorrow. We can't keep losing possession consistently because of his bad touches.

You should probably make peace with this(as I have) and accept that he'll be starting otherwise you're just going to be frustrated every time the line up is announced.

At this point the best we can hope for is for the team impact to overshadow Rooney messiness in the game(He's actually become even worse than last season at losing possession and messing up ongoing built up attacks from what I've seen this preseason. Then again he along with everyone who came much later haven't had much games and fitness under their belt, so let's hope things improve with more game times).

I'm certainly not his biggest fan, but he looked fine Vs Everton with his touch and overall game

    Whats the news on Smalling?
Just back in training, will not be involved anytime soon, he's banned from last season and he lacks match fitness. I assume we start with Eric Bailly - Blind Daley as CBs for first couple of games

Mourinho said he is banned for the Bournemouth match. It is a one match ban. Logically then he would be able to play tomorrow.
wasn't it a two game stop though? looks more like he wasn't even counting with him for the game tomorrow as he lacks fitness

second yellow. one match ban. 3 games ban for violent conduct.

His fitness was always a question. But the latest is that he has trained. I am speculating he may get some miniutes is all. If not we will see him at some point v Southampton.

I can't believe you're saying it either, he's nailed on to start.

then you're right I only thought whether he picked up too many yellows so it could be his second stop which would mean stop for two games. hope he's coming back soon so we can start building that beasty Smalling - Bailly partnership...

If Martial is injured/not match fit, I expect Lingard to start in his place.

Had to come to London suddenly and got a ticket to the game (from a ticket site - hopefully it's valid). First official United game for me - only other one was the MLS All Star game a few years back in Houston. Can't wait ! Anyone have any suggestions of a pub to visit before the game around Wembley - send me a PM please.

You'll be pleased to hear his touch was good against everton. I hope he plays, and scores.

Rooney. The first half v Galatasary was average. He did have a few poor passes and touches. He improved a lot second half and his first goal was very good. Controlled with a defender on him.

He did well against a very defensive Everton side.

Jose will be right to start him.

My belief in our club has been eroded enough that even with Mourinho at the helm I still see a 5th place side versus the league champions. This team needs to prove to me that we are better than this.

Keep Hope ALive...but while most agree with you, it ain't happening.

In addition to Rooney's bad touches I worry about his pace...coupled with Ibra's lack of pace as well.

    Whats the news on Smalling?
    http://www.thesportreview.com/tsr/2016/08/latest-man-utd-injury-update-ahead-of-leicester-clash/

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that both Chris Smalling and Timothy Fosu-Mensah returned to Manchester United training ahead of the Community Shield clash with Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday.

The Red Devils are currently gearing up for their first competitive game under their new manager following his appointment as the club’s boss back on May.

Defenders Smalling and Fosu-Mensah both missed United’s recent games against Everton and Galatasaray – but Mourinho seemed to imply that both were in contention to feature against the Foxes at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking at his pre-match news conference, Mourinho said of the pair: “They are fine now.

“They have recovered and they are training with the group as normal, so they are fine.

“Everybody needs minutes – that is the reality. We had so little time to play and Smalling is a player who has not even played one minute, but it is a little bit the same for everyone.”

United head into the game looking to win their first trophy under new manager Mourinho by denying the Premier League champions.

Seems like everyone is almost on the same page regarding the starting 11.
With the difference being between choosing Carrick or Schneiderlin. And the odd Fellaini starting here and there.

Going to be an interesting line-up prediction season this year. Think Jose is more transparent in us predicting his starting 11. So it will be good.

    4-2-3-1 (till further notice)

    Goal Keeper: De Gea

    Defence: Valencia Bailly Blind Shaw

Midfield: Carrick, Hererra, Rooney, Mkhi, Martial

    Forward: Ibra

I'm not too sure on the Carrick part though, I think Morgan will definitely play, either coming on as a sub or starting, but both will have time. I think he will go with Carrick simply for the experience element for this game.

I expect Fellaini, Mata, Memphis, Rashford, Jones and Young to all get minutes. Not sure of Darmian though and since Smalling is suspended for the opening match, not necessary to give him time over someone who will play, even as a sub next week. If TFM gets some time also that will be fine with me, but if I would go for the 6 subs, it would be the above mentioned.

I'm predicting a 2-1 for us though. Think Musa will be a thorn but it will be a cagey affair. Maybe a goalless first half, teams just sussing each other out and going for it in the second half. Noticed the 1% predicting 5-0 in Leicester's favor:houllier: Can't escape the wums ever. Won't say no chance ever, because i doubt it was high odds that them winning the league, but still can't see that happening at all.

Just hoping for a good game and seeing some fluid football again, notably see the change in mentality from the players and I will be a happy man, win or lose. (not so happy if we lose though)
