    That isn’t how it works.

if you do it too fast you just pump it straight back to them. Every team tries that and it fails because they know how to setup to defend.

you have to ride the first few passes, then once you can turn them you’re away and attacking.

the few chances we’ve had has come from that, not just whacking it and hoping.
So you think that passing from the back, which is what we were attempting to do for long periods, works?
At least using my idea of going for a fast counter, everytime we get the ball off them in our third of the pitch, gives us a chance to score. Do that 10 times and the odds are that we'll score a goal.
Taking the ball in our third of the pitch, then attempting to pass through their entire team has failed almost everytime.

in an ideal world, you'd be right. problem is we keep passing to them anyway!
Well that’s where we need to improve. We are just kicking it first time out of the box hoping it falls to somebody.

martial is working hard but ole needs to tell him to stop coming so deep and be patient, we need an outlet.

we need to dribble out of our box, then play a few quick passes. Anything lumped high and long just gets gobbled up.

This game pretty much highlights what is wrong with Ole and the coaching staff. Just not good enough. Even Sheffield would be better in possession
Don't particularly rate Ole, but City are the best team in the world now. Any team would play like that if they're a goal up against them.

Watching McTominay and Fred on the ball is bloody painful. Just waiting for them to give it away. Infuriating when possession is at such a premium already against team like City. Those two with Fernandes in front of them is about the worst trio you can have to retain possession and gain a semblance of control in game like this. We know the latter is capable of moments of match winning brilliance, but the former two are just not good enough I'm afraid.

Never comfortable against City. So many times they reach 60 or so minutes and suddenly get a flurry of goals.

What a great start from us but then slowly but surely retreated towards our own box.

It's hard but the best way to play v.s. City is winning it up the pitch and pushing our defence up. I fear it we go into the second half playing the same way as the end of that half we're just asking for trouble. This is where Ole earns his pay, it's his decision as to what we do.

Bruno is the worst player on the pitch.

Martial gets a lot of criticism but I think Bruno is the one who needs benching and I would play Cavani and Martial both for a couple of weeks.

I can't think of a single thing Bruno has done well outside of the penalty which wasn't great either.

    Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
We started very well and got an early goal but mid half we suddenly decided to fully park the bus.

If we keep on playing like this it'll be a miracle if they don't score.

Shaw is our best player by a long margin.
We don’t intend to park the bus. Our utter ineptitude at passing the ball means it just keeps coming back. Fred and Bruno having the ball literally just means within 2 seconds City will have it.

Better first half than I could have wished for. Counters need to be in higher quality and quantity, but the dogged defending and score is cause for optimism. Still though, we definitely need to improve in the 2nd half.

    Come on lads!

Martin Tyler’s horrific, btw. Is he showing signs of old age or something? Constantly hear his heavy breathing and making really random points or things he says. It’s like Neville’s the one carrying him along these days

Fair play to Martial and James they've looked good

Rashford looks like he can barely move, he needs to have that operation now otherwise he's going to ruin his career

Rashford, Fred, James and Bruno all have to do better. On the whole, we need to be more composed on the ball. We won't get away with this lead is we carry on like this for another 45 minutes. Otherwise we've done ok considering I was expecting us to get beat comfortably.

Narrative on here seems to be that we are getting battered. i don't see it myself.

Looking fairly decent, Shaw good, Martial is good. Henderson spot on. Bit sloppy passing but what's new there...
    Getting battered?

It's the perfect away performance so far. We've had a few decent breaks and shots,. so it's not like we've smashed and grabbed either.

Don’t care how we do it, just as long we win or worst case draw.

Very good opening 10-15 mins but City started taking control and it felt like one of their chances were going to get taken. Their fullbacks were starting to get forward to support.

When we do get possession, we need to do much better as we are just handing it straight back to them.

Very happy to be winning at half time, we had a good first 15min but have been pushed back since. We must start to win our duels, that means winning the 50/50s and getting those quick passes going past their press otherwise we won’t hang on.

if we had more midfielders who could actually pass, it would help! scholes or beckham would slice them open

Don't understand people complaining about possession here. Where playing a full throttle pep team here. They make teams pass like crap and lose possession, thats what they do

Good on the guys are running and supporting defence. This wasnt gonna be easy, you spoiled brats
No one expected easy or us to dominate possession but there is a real problem with our passing ability. We should be able to keep the ball and use it better when we have it, in fact we were able to against City multiple times last year with the same players.

Fred's work in midfield is crucial to us, but his ability on the ball is so, so poor. Always feel like it's going to cost us a goal.

Martial has been much better than his recent performances.

All in all a good half, and we contained them well. Henderson hasn't been under intense pressure and at times we look dangerous on the break.

People expecting us to come and outplay a team on a 21 game winning streak live in cloud cuckoo land

Bruno gives the ball away too many times.

Anthony Taylor is an horrendous referee.
I feel Bruno really benefits from Pogba being on the pitch when it comes to retaining possession. He seems desperate to get it from Fred and McT and then do something with it.

They need this breather, need to be on it at start of 2nd half, passing to quick when were on break, its margins of to slow or to quick. Feck I dont know how these city players get the energy from, this season in particular. Keep the ball for a period this half, or get the passing right on the break.

Fred and McTomminay is such a limited midfield.

Honestly, take away the stupidity of Jesus on that tackle and it's 0-0. We were not very good that half. Fred was atrocious.
You're never going to get out of the newbies posting this gub.

Take the big game changing goal out of it, and it's 0-0. yeah nice one mate. What else? If they'd scored we wouldn't be leading?
