I would love it if we finally managed to score 5 for the first time this season against these lot :D
For some reason we seem uncapable of scoring more than 4. I've been waiting for 2 years for us to break the 4 goal barrier. These are all the times we've scored 4 under Mourinho.
    1: PL
    Man Utd 4-1 Leicester
    2. EL
    Man Utd 4-1 Fenerbahce
    Man Utd 4-0 Feyenoord
    3. League Cup
    Man Utd 4-1. West Ham
    4. FA Cup
    Man Utd 4-0 Reading
    Man Utd 4-0 Wigan

    This season:
    1. PL
    Man Utd 4-0 West Ham
    Swansea 0-4 Man Utd
    Man Utd 4-0 Everton
    Man Utd 4-0 Crystal Palace
    Man Utd 4-1 Newcastle
    Watford 2-4 Man Utd

    2. League Cup
    Man Utd 4-1 Burton
    3. FA Cup
    Yeovil 0-4 Man Utd
    4. CL
    CSKA 1-4 Man Utd

We seem to just stop when we reach 4. I'm starting to think we have a mental barrier that's playing on our minds. Last time we scored 5 was under LVG in the 5-1 game vs Midtjylland. And that's the only time we've gone above 4 since SAF retired I think.

@abdo99 Wow didn't realise it's been 2 years, that's quite poor tbh. We need to go for the jugular more often, I've noticed that we do take our foot off the gas as soon as we get a goal.

Just realised how bad Arsenal's away form in the PL is. 3 wins, 4 draws, and 9 losses

    Surely we will win this.

5-2 against Leverkusen in Moyes season.

Ah yes forgot about that game but still in 5 years we've gone above 4 goals only twice. That's not good enough for a big club like ours with the reputation of being a free scoring team in the past. Even now although we've improved from Moyes and LVG we still aren't scoring enough. City have almost 100 this season. Liverpool 80. Even Arsenal have more goals than us. We have a lot of work still be done.

Can't imagine many of their best players will be playing from the start due to their focus on the Europa. Those that do will have only had two full days rest leading up to the game, compared to United having over a week. Besides Arsenal gave up on the league weeks ago.

And when you take into account their away record recently, United should really be getting a very comfortable win here.

    Frustrating 1-1 it is.

I want Atletico to beat them well enough to dent their confidence, but not so much that renders the second leg meaningless.

United 7-1 Arsenal. I also predict some kid who's been mediocre so far to score a hattrick and launch his career as we've done that for multiple United youth products in the past (think Rashford). Mourinho's going to make this farewell match special, just like he ruined Arsene's 1000th game in charge with a 6-0 win. You know it's going to happen.

United should thank Arsene Wenger personally for launching so many careers. Anyone remember that cup game where United played seven defenders and still won?

Would be good to give them one last smashing, for old time's sake.

My word Wenger's had some beatings from our boys.
    The 8-2, a 6-1? Some 4-0s.

Biggest defeats I can remember against them were the 3-0 in the charity shield the season we brought Stam in, and that game we were 3-0 down after about 20mins a couple of years ago. That could have been anything!

What a midfield four it was! Da Silva twins on either flank with Gibson and O'Shea in the center. Awesome match. But that defense and GK was a class unit, yet not even first choice, but bordering on it!!

United on a high after an impressive comeback win away from home the previous Saturday against a top-four team: check
Home game against a team on a terrible run of away form, likely with a weakened squad, a club in transition: check
    Late Sunday afternoon kick-off: check

Eerily similar to the circumstances of the West Brom debacle :nervous:

Carbon copy of last year's situation. We played them at their home while focusing on EL.

    Btw, how's sixth, Arsenal?

True. The record against the rest of the top six has also been a vast improvement on last season. Just hope we get an early goal and kick on from there.
Yep. Plus rubbing salt on Wenger's horrible record against Jose.

Said in another thread but arsenal gotta rest pretty much everybody for this game

This match really means nothing in the grand scheme of things whilst next week is their season

I'd imagine Arsenal will still put out a fairly reasonable side

    ---------------Cech---------------
    -Chambers--Holding--Monreal-
    Bellerin--Xhaka--Ramsey--Niles
    Iwobi----Aubameyang----Welbeck

Something like that? Suspect the only ones who will definitely sit it out will be Ozil, Wilshire and Lacazette

I'd add Koscielny and Ramsey to the list, too. Maybe even Monreal.

Kolasinac, Holding, Chambers, Maitland-Niles and Iwobi are guaranteed to start against us, you'd feel.

I'd say that team is much closer to poor than fairly reasonable.

I want a complete distruction and utter humilation for them.

What is more likely to happen is a 1-0 defeat, with Mourinho opting to not rub it in.

I can literally see us scoring early and then it being nothing but an exibition match after that.

Don’t think I’ve wanted to win an Arsenal game as badly since the CL semi final. Hope we crush them, preferably with Sanchez doing the bulk of the damage.

Obviously would like to win but not a problem if we draw or even lose. League is already lost, 2nd place is more or less cemented, so this is like a nothing game.

We can tear them a new one with that defence. I don't think I've ever felt this confident before a 'big' game. Which will probably mean we're going to lose. We have a habit this season of following some of the biggest highs with the lowest lows in terms of performances and results. We outclassed Liverpool 2-1 at OT. 3 days later - humiliated by Sevilla and out of CL. Beat Man City 2-3 away from and 7 days later lose 0-1 to West Brom. I suppose you could even add beating Arsenal 1-3 away from home and fecking up the derby a week later. It's like these players let the success get to their heads. Must learn to stay grounded hopefully starting with this weekend.

I wonder if this will be a game where Mourinho goes for the throat with no other real distractions

against Liverpool and Swansea recently in the second halves we shut the game down, dropping our intensity and managed the rest of the game

would like to see a game where we are relentless and hungry for goals even if we get a decent lead

Arsenal will likely be resting players for Athletico so it "should" be a comfortable win. But something tells me we will make it harder on ourselves than it really should be. I still think we will take it though. Probably 2-1

    Poor attitude imo.
We are trying to build momentum into the final and next season. Think it's important that we beat them. Pretty sure Mourinho doesn't see it as a "nothing game".

Sanchez must score in this game, Arsenal match going fans are the most deluded on the planet and need a reality check about where they are in the pecking order.

Simeone and Mourinho 1-2-3 combination would be a fantastic send off for Wenger.

If we beat Arsenal on Sunday that will be each of the top 6 defeated in the last head to head. Can't have happened too often in the past.
