I would feel more confident about this game if I didn't have this nagging doubt about Ole setting up in the same way that we did against Chelsea

I've always liked the 4-2-2-2 formation. Loved it when Pellegrini used it at Villarreal and Malaga, and thought City played great stuff with it when they had Silva and Nasri as the AMs. I'm in the camp of wanting to see us try it here.

Its just so typical if Arsenal has a game raising performance , teams that has had a bad run tend to turn it around eventually. And that one of our players is on such a high after Leipzig that he does a costly individual mistake.

Im dreading a 1-0 loss as the negative nancy I am.

On the other hand if we put in a solid performance we have truly turned a corner and will beat Everton as well. We looked very composed against Leipzig, its all down to continuing that mind set. Our quality should factually outfight Arsenal.

Very nervous and excited about this one, but its another potential false dawn haha

Great to finally see a matchday thread with no ‘it has to be Henderson’s time in the net’ lunacy. Unfortunately we will see such idiocy reappear immediately in the next CL matchday thread unfortunately.
But there would be no harm to play Henderson in the last one or two CL group matches, at least If we qualify after games with a Turkish side

Yeah, Id say he will be playing both games against the Istanbul side as well

I thought the plan vs. Chelsea was to play cautiously for the first 60 mins and then go for it once Pogba came on. Which I would have been ok with, except we didn't really go for it vs. Chelsea.

Im sick to death about reading how this doesnt mean as much as it once did every time this fixture cones round.
    Its lazy, cliche nonsense.

Robbie spends 3/4 of it saying Utd should be challenging for the title so Ole isnt that good to saying you arent as good as you think you are for the next 1/4.
    Thanks for coming, Robbie
The thing I got out of it was that they all missed the big picture. Both sides are implying that we need to trust the process -- for both United and the Arsenal. If both sides want to develop the process, it requires finance.

Winning the FA Cup is a hippy crack buzz and only that. Getting into the Top 4 is only part of the journey for United. We ultimately will want to compete for the title. CL revenues will enable us to work the process. We have lowered the age profile of the squad by a massive margin. Plus we seem to be hoovering up a bunch of high potential academy players, all indicating that we are targeting to really comepet for the title only like 2-3 season from now.
Arsenal has a short term plan with quite a few players nearing their 30s if not past it -- and with no CL revenues after 4-5 seasons?

Not sure how they can dig themselves out of this hole --- United was accused in the past of relying on individual brilliance to dig themselves out of matches. It seems like the Kroenke board is hoping of managerial brilliance to dig themselves out of their current hole.

It's going to be quite stormy during this match. I think both sides will struggle to play good football.

    It's a classic

I think the official line is that he was celebrating that he played a really good advantage in the build-up to the goal.
Come on then FA, explain the celebration in the NLD where there was no advantage

Funnily enough, in the 3rd clip, he got mad when Swansea’s attack against us led to nothing.

Kean vs Viera will never be duplicated to be honest.
More like SAF vs Wenger. At the peak of the rivalry those two were the best managers in England and among the very best in Europe. Also it was a straight shootout for the title between Arse and us for a fair few seasons, until Chelsea doped on cash.

To me the last one seems a pretty clear case of playing the advantage and watching it immediately squandered. Not clue what's going on with the first clip though.

But true. Arsenal haven't been a serious title contender in 12 years. United haven't mattered since 2013. These days it's Liverpool vs City that matters.

No harm at all, but we shouldn’t play him before that. In CL recent threads, some were stating that it had to have been Henderson’s turn for no other reason than he was back in the team.

No reason for him to play any CL match until dead rubber matches. We aren’t handing out participation trophies. Once we qualify for the knock out rounds or DDG makes a few howlers, then Henderson should play. But, like I stated earlier, we’re not handing out participation trophies. DDG has done nothing to warrant being dropped.

But its brought up every fixture between the two. Its lazy as shit. Fecking Liverpool and City has been going 2 seasons and even last seasons was a wash out

I’m still angry at Ole for his team selection against Chelsea, and it’s something that he has a tendency to do - outdo himself trying to do ‘squad management’ and be ‘nice’ to certain players, same thing he did against Spurs post lockdown.

Usually, he quickly corrects it though, so I expect him to play a proper team tomorrow, rather than a front 3 of James, Rashford and Mata for mo fecking reason at all, with the full knowledge that it’s unlikely to hurt anyone.

I think we can win here. Arsenal play the counter attack game and if we can coax them out, we can get behind them. Partey will be a big test for our forward play, wish we had been in for him. Im going 2-0 Utd

Unfortunately, I could easily see a James / Rashford / Mata front three with Bruno behind. We will also unfortunately use McFred which will effectively limit us in attack & make it somewhat of a 10 v 11 match again (actually, 9 v 11 if James starts).

Dreadful day of results today has already left us in a position where this is a must win tomorrow. Poor start plus the first game being delayed (against a terrible Burnley who I'm sure will be bang in form by the time we play them) has left us playing catchup for a good while probably.

A win tomorrow doesn't even get us in the top half and we're already 9 points off Liverpool.
    2 games in hand chief.

But yes, not winning tomorrow, and not winning 4 home games in a row would be worrying.
Also, forget about Liverpool. It's much more a case of monitoring 4th place's points, as that's our limit this year.

If we win our games in hand we have lost only 3 points more than Liverpool have this season. Better than Chelsea, same as Wolves 3.place.

Will be five in a row including our final home league game of last season. I pray he doesn't revert to Mata, James etc and set up like v Chelsea.

This is a huge game and I mean HUGE. Our start in the PL has been poorish but the CL has been great. If we don’t win this it will overall still be a below average start to the league but if we do then we are fine. Arsenal have been woeful away to the big 6 I think they haven’t won in 6 years so a draw(like Chelsea) won’t cut it for me.
