Exactly. When you look at how well stacked we are for attackers who can play left and right it makes it absurd that we didn’t go for a CDM at the very least. I still think Dalit could do a job at RB. But CDM would’ve solved everything in terms of giving us real options to play in midfield. We coulda played any of Pogba, Donny, Matic, mctominay, Fred with a new CDM. Would have totally opened up our options. Especially considering when Rashford comes back pogba will prob have to move back to misfield. Seems totally blind to have gone for Sancho under those circumstances when Greenwood can do such a good job and Amad and Rashford can cover that side. Even Lingard. Was it Oles stubbornness or Woodward and the club wanting to appear bigger than Dortmund by winning the battle? Very happy to have Sancho and I’m sure he’ll prove to turn out good. But midfield would have transformed us.
I'd guess Ronaldo wasn't planned and we thought Pogba might leave. I'm not sure we'd have gone for Sancho if Ronaldo came first, the squad is too top heavy.

Wait is this not on TV? Are they only allowed to show 1 match at 12:30 or something?

We need to give a team a good walloping again soon. So hopefully it is today! 5-0. Greenwood x2, Ronaldo x2, Bruno

I see why you didn't, ya joined the forum last year.People simply don't care what yo've guessed, it is about winning the game only
Clearly many people do care though? Otherwise they wouldn't be posting about it?

I would love for this thread to not be as spammy and mostly negative after every touch of the ball, but I don't try to police what others can post.
I just avoid it from kickoff, and maybe check the last page during half-time to see if there are any measured opinions.

VIP league comes to mind. Don’t know why. A competition to the super league perhaps?

i think fred is one of the poorest midfielders with a regular starting spot that weve had in a long time. but do people really think with that you could risk just one of McFred when our attacking mids / forward dont provide anything defensively? ...

Won’t happen Villa are a good side.
True but sometimes it's the teams who really come to play you aggressively and go for it that you can end up racking up the score against. Rather than those who come to park the bus. I'm hoping so anyway

We needed the attacker, but once Ronaldo came to us it made the Sancho deal look 'worse'.

If we didn't sign Sancho and went for a CM+RB and Ronaldo didn't come here, we'd have been having Greenwood, Pogba, Bruno and James as the front four with Lingard, Martial and Mata on the bench for the opening games. Nowhere near good enough in depth.

And the midfielder that people wanted us to go after - Saul - has looked way out of his depth so far so we'd be worse off.
You forgot our 30 million Amad + Peillistri. Signing two RW the summer before and then sign Sancho was weird. Also who wanted Saul ? Majority wanted Rice, Nevez or Bissouma. Personally i wanted Bissouma and Trippier over Sancho from the moment we signed him.

Not in the UK, no. BT Sport/Sky have the rights to only show a certain amount of games, and as this was originally a 3pm kick-off, it hasn't been picked up.

He was better than him at both versus Newcastle.

And yeah so either way you look at it he was much better overall.

Fred's been shite this season in the league. No two ways about it.
Newcastle was the perfect match for him though, they parked the bus and did it poorly. Most teams will pressure.

Bruno works extremely hard, he tracks back a lot.

Would liked to have seen VDB for Fred with McT obviously the deeper of the two.

VDB was lauded by most for his performance on Wed. Fred was slated for his last weekend. Ole never learns. I think he believes if he keeps trying the same thing it will eventually work.

Well either way Fred's been shit and deserves to be dropped.

What we gonna do when Rashford iss back?

Still play Fred and McTominay? That would be ridiculous.

I didn't forget. Amad is injured and Pellistri is out on loan so we'd still be struggling for chances and goals early on.

The Saul thread is 42 pages long. Plenty wanted him.

Not just the attackers. Just look at how many times Shaw and AWB have been caught out of position while McFred were unavailable. The fullbacks need them as cover just as much as the forwards. The fact they both had the most productive seasons of their careers tells us it's working.

I think people focus too much on individual stats rather than team stats. We score more goals, concede fewer goals and win more matches with McFred in midfield. Pogba might get more assists on an individual level when he plays there. But it's to the detriment of the team shape as a whole.

BT is showing the AFL grand final.

Watching that over City and Chelsea if I can't find a reliable Utd stream.

    Crazy game.

Iirc, Villa were pretty decent against Chelsea, and were unlucky in the first half. Expecting a tough game here.

That’s funny, many would have said to prioritise Bissouma or similar over Ronaldo( striker). RW was a Position we did need

We've a hard run of fixtures coming up so there's no room for error in games like this, we need the three points.. A win and a good performance would do us a world of good, not least with one or both of City/Chelsea dropping points at the same time.

So I am absolutley flabbergasted t6his morning.

As a sort-of neutral I like to follow both Manchester teams. Today they both kick-off at 12.30pm - has that ever happened before?

Furthermore, my newspaper (The Guardian) tells me the reason the Man Utd. game is at lunchtime and not 3pm is because of a Courteeners concert!!!!

Well as far as I'm concerned the Courteeners only ever made one decent record ('Last Kiss') about 12 years ago and in fact I was surprised to hear they were still going.

Have I missed something? Are they as big as the Stones or U2 or Springsteen and I have missed it, because to move a Man Utd game for a Courteeners concert seems quite bizarre to me!
You're not the only one who is flabbergasted.

Has anyone asked yet why this is a 12:30 KO but not on TV?

I mean seriously why do so many not actually read what's posted?

Good team. I'm sure there are moaners but that team is one of the best we could put out there today. Yes Maguire, Fred and Wan Bissaka could do with being in better form but it'll come. Great to see Cavani in the squad too.

Setanta Qazaqstan shows Man Utd vs Aston Villa instead of the match day headliner. No complaints
