I admire how positive you are. However this is a cup game, and cup games are not always won by the better team. Im getting progressively more nervous as kick off approaches
    Hahaha. I feel you mate.

And you are right, cup games can swing. But I am sure that the stats will show that the stronger teams win more often than not especially when they are playing teams weaker than them by a distance. Giant killing is more of the exception than the norm. Celta de Vigo is not close to being a threat to us. If United goes out in this semi final stage, then Jose has failed monumentally this season. I may not say the same if Ajax or Lyon beat us because they are closer to us this season in terms of form and quality.

I just feel there is a bit of a depressing mood around the club at the moment. I think a lot of fans are feeling pretty flat after the Swansea and Arsenal games in particular. There is a definite snobbery around the EL, you can see it at every level, from the fans arguing about whether winning it is better than coming second in the league in another thread, right up to Mourinho with a face like a slapped arse in the press conference doing very little to hide the fact that this is a consolation prize and a route into the CL. The season could end on a high but the mood has been more influenced by how disjointed our performances have been, and the seed of worry that has planted in many of us that we could still end up with nothing. If we go through tonight in an edgy game we will be a step closer but it isnt going to fundamentally change that - especially with a trip to Spurs, where we will field a weakened team and probably end up with yet another fairly underwhelming performance and result.

So I really, really hope we turn it on tonight and do more than the minimum required to go through. We need a lift, dammit. We need belief that we can score goals going into the final, that we might even score some in the league. Sure, it might be practically meaningless now in terms of CL qualification, but we still have games to play and we still want to be entertained.

I just think stumbling through in a similar manner to the last round will put unnecessary pressure on us, make the final seem more 50/50 than it really should. Whereas if we turn up and put in a really good attacking performance that is actually reflected in the scoreline we will all feel a bit more excited and upbeat going into the final.

I dont want to accept that just because we have been incapable of scoring goals this season that we are incapable of scoring goals. But that is a bit how I am feeling, at least. In the score prediction game I went with 0-0 because that is just how I feel going into our games at the moment and I dont want the season to fizzle out with me feeling that way, including potentially going into an EL Final.

So please Mourinho. I know getting to the final is the most important thing and you want to kill their fluency and stop them from playing and yadda yadda yadda. But we are a better team that them, with better players all over the pitch, and we have an advantage in the scoreline and we are playing at home. So let's not worry about them attacking us, let's take the game to them and score a shit load of goals, because it will make all the difference to the mood around here. We need it.
Completely agree with everything you say. But sadly, there's almost no chance that we will be playing the kind of football you ask for. You are right when you talk about the mood around the club. The season has turned into a slog as it has approached its end. We used to play a large number of matches, play against big teams home and away, had players injured in times gone by as well, yet it never felt like its turning into a miserable march towards the end. Earlier we could still look forward to playing good football even as the end of season approached, but sadly this season it hasn't been so. Hopefully in the coming seasons the mood gradually changes and we get back that swagger we used to have heading into the end of season run ins.

I'm fairly confident for this one. This type of game is right up Mourinho's alley. It probably won't be pretty, but in the end I don't think we'll be troubled too much.

If we can for once get an early goal, it will be comfortable, but in reality I expect it to slog out for the 90 mins. The longer we go without scoring, the more defensive Mourinho will instruct the team. If no goals by 60-70 mins, I expect the bus to be truly parked for the rest of the match.

I wouldn't be surprised if DDG and Romero switch from now on - DDG in EL and Romero in PL.
I don't think he'll do that to Romero, who has played well in EL. If we make the final, I expect Romero to start there as well.

    Martial???

No way. He has been closer to being a flop than most others this season.

    Give me Rashford.
OK, you win, I will take out Martial and put Tuanzebe in the back line. It's all about keeping Celta out today, not about us scoring.

I am guessing Romero, I did ponder it when doing my lineup prediction on here, but he started in the first leg so I went with him. Still not 100% sure though.
Personally i would play de gea for this and then romero in final (if we get there) that way they can both feel like they have been a part of it, if you know what i mean.

How does the medal allocation work in europa ? Ie will the bench players get a medal ?

He definitely should play De Gea. Especially if we have any designs on keeping him here next season. Its our biggest game of the season and he is our number one keeper, he should play.

But its not the end of the world if he doesnt because Romero has been very good, and if De Gea has already decided he is off I can definitely see the logic in giving Romero the glory.
Last week was our supposed biggest game of the season and Romero played, now this week is our biggest game of the season.. Romero is starting and deserves to.

Fellaini is key in this game, as he's such a great outlet against teams that are looking to press high. I've no problems with using him to counter their press, which has worked wonders before.

    Depressing mood?

This is the most exciting time at United post Fergie.

Let's win the damn Europa League and get back to playing the big boys next season starting with a tasty match against Real Madrid or Juventus.

This. The last few years since SAF have been difficult to say the least, but this competition is hopefully the springboard to get back to better times. My nerves are jangling already, not really felt like it for a few seasons. It's a European trophy and the start of the road back to the big time, hopefully. COYR.

We've never won this trophy . 50 plus years of european football. We might not have a better chance to win in the next 50 most of which will be in the CL . Hope the stadium is buzzing. I think we smash them 4-0

I'm still not convinced it will be Romero tonight, but I think he will most likely play.
All the subs get a medal in the Final I am sure, whether they come on or not. I do wonder if DDG will play in the Final though, if United get there.
The main thing is though, United win tonight and then win the Final, then hopefully the good times will roll again.

I fancy us in the final vs Ajax. Just need to get there. Hope Mourinho is brave tonight and goes all out for the win first 45 mins.

If its cagey we can sit back and counter 2nd half but they're here for the taking so hope we go all out for it.

I don't get the loyalty towards Romero. We need to win this competition and to to that we need to start arguably our only world class player.
De Gea has to start tonight and for the final if we get there

The only way Celta come out with a win is if they park the bus and try to nick a goal, then park the bus until penalties. Even then we are specialists at getting draws at home so they will have to score 2 goals.

We are strong at playing against teams that try to outplay us, because instead of trying to outplay them back we play on the counter and take advantage of the space they leave.

I can understand Jose giving Romero the nod if he does. He obviously knows more than us on the status of DDG. He could be giving Romero the chance to prove his ability as being our #1 next season if we don't get someone like Oblak to replace DDG. Just my speculative opinion.

Agree. It's harsh on Romero, who has done brilliantly for us this season. But now that all our eggs are in the Europa League basket, we have to play our strongest team. Give Romero the league.

I know the team's interests come first, but nothing would be more demoralizing for Romero than to hand over the reins to de Gea after getting us through the whole competition. It might not even be in the team's interests, especially with the rumors around de Gea.

Besides, it doesn't need to be done for this match. Final, maybe..

It's not as if DDG has had a great season.

Imagine him coming in now and gifting them a couple goals with some mistakes.
