If Mata starts i'll put money on him scoring a trademark cross goal.

Their away form in the Europa League has improved quite a bit in the knock out phases, although in the last two games they have went in with a lead which would probably have suited them. Only the game vs Shakhtar were they losing and they ultimately turned that around.

In the league their away form against the top 13 teams really is woeful (admittedly I don't know how many of these games came at a time when they were resting players for the EL). Out of the other 12 teams in the top 13 of the league, they have played 11 of them and lost 10.

Realistically we should have more than enough to see them off, and their away form doesn't suggest that they have it in them to come to OT and turn us over.

The key is to score first and early, most important is to not to be nervous.
    We are going to Stockholm.

I am at work & starting getting nervous for this.
A pity I can't make it to OT tonight, but I hope the atmosphere will be terrific. It's without a doubt the most important game of the season so far, and Mou and the players can't disappoint us 2day.

    Going for:

    Romero
    Valencia Bailly Blind Darmian
    Fellaini Herrera Pogba
    Mkhi Rashford Martial

Pretty sure Lingard will take Martials place though.

An early goal and a high pressure should be enough to beat them.
    Bring it on!

We have played six at home and won all six in the EL. We have an away goal so they will play open football against us at Old Trafford. We like that.
That's not happening. We have ONE away goal. They know better than to play open football and make it worse for them. No manager with a weaker team would set out to attack a strong opposition from the get go to recover a single away goal deficit. In fact they will try and make this a very cagey affair. Tackles, efforts to win free kicks, disruptive play etc may very well be the theme of their game plan. All they need is ONE goal. One smartly struck free kick, one goof up by our defenders or one well taken corner and they're back in the tie with the pressure entirely on United then to dig a goal out, Old Trafford crowd getting increasingly anxious and the onus on United to open play up. That's where their window of opportunity opens up - to sneak in another goal and hang on to it. Don't be surprised if you see complete lack of creative intent from them in the first half. They know where there are coming to play and they know they're up against the strongest team in the competition with an admirable home record. It would be absolutely foolish to force anything. For them, it should be, and most probably, will be all about letting United have possession, sitting back and defending well for 60-70 minutes, making sure they don't concede and try and work the ball into United's penalty are when they get a chance or win a set piece.

I'm buzzing for this later
Tell me about it. Can't seem to concentrate at work. I'm already counting down the hours. Come on United!

I'm at the 'optimistic stage' eight hours before kick off, so I've gone for a 3-0 win but I doubt I'll be sticking to that score line come 19:45 when the nerves properly kick in.

What's all this nonsense from Mourinho about this being the biggest game in our club's history. Jesus this guy doesnt half spout rubbish.

I want to see us line up 4-42 tonight, 2 strikers Rashford and Martial and go for it from the off. Couple of early goals to kill the tie

However I think we will deploy 3 in midfield and it will be a cagey affair

Yup pretty much this. 'Work' today is consisting of hanging around this place counting down the hours until kick off.

I hope we absolutely smash them in the first 15 minutes with O.T rocking, they won't be able to handle us if we go full throttle.

If it's a nervy start and a quiet crowd then we have the habit of letting teams grow and get more comfortable, I didn't like how we did that with Anderlecht.

Once we got our 2nd wind though we should have won 6-1, but as usual our finishing let us down.

Tonight we MUST be clinical. We can't afford to miss chance after chance.

Haha he said that?! Biggest game this season so far for sure.

He is most probably just trying to hint to the players how important it is for them to be concentrated for this tie. Our entire season depends on this one game. If he has said this, he was probably aware of absurdity of the sentence. But, his main aim is to motivate players right now. Anything and absolutely anything must be said or done to make sure we go through to the final. Because winning this tournament will have a rippling effect on coming season, games, player's mentality and kind of players we buy and how quickly we get out of this slump that has now lasted for four years now.

Jose said "the most important match of OUR history".

He clearly means the time that he has been at United, not obviously our complete history.

Sorry I don't get the reference.

I thought it was pretty obvious though, Jose isn't that foolish to think a EL semi final is bigger than 5 European finals

Pogba and Fellaini have already a yellow so this tie should not be that easy.

I still have in mind the poor Anderlecht game we played so I wont be too optinistic before this one.

We look slow, tired and without inspiration. We re not scoring goals and that can be dangerous.

I d say that a nervy 1-1 will be the result (even if I dream of a proper 2-0)

    My team

    Romero

    Valencia
    Bailly
    Blind
    Darmian

    Herrera
    Pogba
    Fellaini

    Mata
    Rashford
    Mkhitaryan

Their yellows are not a concern in any way. They won't miss the final even if they get booked today.

100% nailed on to start - Valencia, Bailly, Pogba.
Romero, Darmian, Herrera, and Rashford will surely start as well.
    Mkhi and Mata are probable.
Could be Martial, Rooney, Fellaini, Blind, Jones, Smalling, Carrick in the other 2 spots.

Fellaini didn't play at Arsenal so will probably start, Blind did well in the first leg and was rested against Arsenal so I reckon he's nailed on to partner Bailly again.

With that said I'm going for:

    Romero

    Valencia
    Bailly
    Blind
    Darmian

    Herrera
    Fellaini
    Pogba

    Mkhi
    Rashford
    Lingard

Only doubt for me is whether he persists with Lingard after missing 9000 chances in the first leg or whether he opts for Mata who's probably our most clinical finisher available.

Does anyone think there's any possibility at all Fellaini wont get picked for this game? I mean, its an absolutely crucial game for us, it seems a bit strange that he should be selected automatically, purely on the basis that he isnt available for subsequent PL games. We should be putting out the best team we can, regardless of who we pick for the now meaningless PL games that follow, and he isnt in our strongest XI - or our strongest available XI.

    I would like to see:

    DDG
    Valencia - Bailly - Blind - Darmian
    Herrera - Pogba
    Miki - Mata - Martial
    Rashford
But yeah, this isnt the team Mourinho is going to pick, Fellaini will be in there, as will, I suspect, Lingard, at the expense of Miki and Martial. (And Romero for De Gea of course.)

I suspect Mou likes him for the role he's assigned - to use his height, disrupt their play and impede fluency but I always feel he's a red card waiting to happen. The daft yellow he got in Vigo was for two fouls in 30 seconds right in front of the ref. The red card against City was equally stupid and if it gets nervy I think he's a likely suspect for wind-ups and hence a second yellow.

Every time we had a chance to go 4th we bottled it. I hope this squad proves me wrong but I get the feeling that if Celta get the first goal we could be in trouble

I posted the same "ideal" selection further up, and I would sure cream my pants if we line up that way, but it's different from the squad I predicted.

I still see Mou starting with Fellaini and Lingard in the place of Mata and Martial. Oh and Romero in place of DDG. It's just classic Mourinho.

If he gets us through, no complaints from me though.

Of course he does. But for heaven's sake, this is Celta Vigo at home, we want to score goals, let's not worry about disrupting their play and impeding their fluency, let's concern ourselves with our own fluency, I think a front four of Miki, Mata, Martial and Rashford could score a load of goals and give us a real lift for the final.

So the only difference in what we expect to see is I think he'll go with Mata and you think Miki. I wouldnt be at all surprised if you were right, but with a match under his belt and with Miki having been pretty poor of late I reckon Mata will get the nod.

I hope Fellaini is left out, but I doubt it. Any word on who is likely to start in goal ? I'm guessing Romero, also not sure whether Mata will start, Mkhitaryan is the man for the EL so I'm guessing he will play from the start, but who will fill the other attacking midfield role could be any one from Martial, Lingard or Mata.
Carrick to come on for the last 20/25 minutes and shore things up if United are in a strong position then.

I think we'll win. Problem being is I've been wrong with my predictions for at least the last 5 games in a row now...
Jose said "the most important match of OUR history".

He clearly means the time that he has been at United, not obviously our complete history.
I'm pretty sure he was referring to what someone from Celta Vigo said, so not meaning he thought it was United's biggest game, but that someone from Vigo thought it was their biggest ever game.

Wish I could be confident, but I don't see us winning this comfortably. It's not in our style to make it easy for ourselves.
Also, we don't score enough goals to win comfortably.

    Nervy 1-1.

I agree totally with the plan but I think Mou will be more cautious for various reasons. They're not that bad, we're not that consistent and a one goal lead isn't really that much, think of the Swansea game. As both the home team and favourites we may feel under more pressure than them too. A 4-0 win wouldn't surprise me at all, but neither would a 1-1.

We should really go through quite easily - on paper.
